If you're looking for reasons to go to Canyon Ranch, here's a few: 1) it is a beautiful seaside hotel. 2) it is an extraordinary well-being centre. 3) everything (or almost) is included. 4) it is probably the only hotel in America with no Coke or Pepsi! Just some of the many reasons to pay a visit.

    Location 5.0 /10

On Collins Avenue, the main street running North to South across Miami Beach, at 68th Street. The hotel is in North Beach, halfway from the Art Deco District and Bal Harbor. A taxi will cost $20 (£13) to head down to South Beach in 15 minutes. The beach is just outside. You just have to cross the little promenade reserved for pedestrians and joggers to get there. Miami Airport is a 40-minute drive away. But guests can also choose to fly to Fort Lauderdale, not much further away.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

With 110 suites it is an intimate hotel, even though the two neighbouring towers are home to residents who own their apartment. A good point: 4 lifts for 10 floors means that you will never have to wait.
The suites are huge, at an average 70m2. The lounge hosts a fully-equipped kitchenette with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee machine, kettle (coffee and tea provided daily), toaster, sink, and dishwasher as well as cutlery and plates. The dining table, high as it should be, is opposite it with 4 chairs. Further on is the lounge area with a sofa, two comfy armchairs and a huge television. This room also includes a tiled floor, a rug and a coffee table covered in imitation leather. Fine furniture, lots of wood, and sophisticated lighting. The Wi-Fi Internet access is free throughout the hotel.
A door opens onto the bedroom with a big bed (rarely double beds), an armchair, bedside tables with reading lamps, another equally large TV, a large closet with bathrobes, slippers, and a safe. The bathroom is big with a large bath, a shower, a separate toilet, excellent lighting (you can finally see yourself in the mirror) and sophisticated toiletries. A refined detail: there is a pretty Italian Bisazza mosaic on the floor.
The suites are all very similar. They are divided into categories with or without balcony. Those without a balcony are larger (the interior covers the area of the missing balcony). The other differences depend on the view: city view, which is is the rear view of the city (not bad with the Miami skyline in the distance), side view, i.e. ocean, and the front view known as the ocean front. These are the best rooms in the city. There are also 2 120m2 guest rooms suites with 2 bathrooms.

    Overview 8.60 /10

First a bit of history: This was once the Carillon Hotel. Next door there was a Miami nightclub where all the stars of the 50s, including Sinatra, performed. Of course they stayed at the hotel. Completely rebuilt in 2008, except for listed sections such as the sign and some of the marble and period floors, it is now a beautiful modern building facing the beach. Now let's talk about Canyon Ranch. In the US, it is the well-being brand par excellence. Or excellent well-being, depending on how you look at it. Originally based in Tucson (Arizona), the brand has gradually expanded. Miami Beach is its only seafront 'resort'. And it is also the only one where the 'house' treatment is not part and parcel of the stay.
The concept is interesting: a beautiful, very modern hotel, top quality guest rooms - or rather suites, lavish facilities, and a 7000m2 half-Spa half-sports centre. Sports activities, detox, an introduction to dieting, alternative medicine, and the search for positive energies are all included in the room price, among other things. Around forty free classes are run every day. From the basic gym class to the last discovery in the field of anti-stress. It's up to you if you want to take part of not.
Otherwise, everything here is organic, and there is no Coca Cola in sight. Unique south of Atlanta! The Canyon Ranch is definitely worth a visit, especially as - and once again a first for Miami - there are none of the resort fees or hidden costs that have become the (disgraceful) trademark of Florida hotels.
A word about the decor which gives pride of place to driftwood from the mangrove, carefully designed by the superb Rockwell firm to which we also owe the W Hotel in Paris and the Hotel Arts Barcelona, among others.

    The facilities include:
In terms of sports: 4 swimming pools, one of which is reserved for adults. The advantage: as they are positioned in the 4 corners of the resort, there is always at least one (and often 4) in the sun.
A 7,000m2 gym and well-being centre! Here you'll find a gym with top-of-the-range equipment, free access, 5 studios for classes, an alternative medicine centre, a thermal circuit (free), a Spa, and a hair salon. The treatment prices are identical to those of other hotels, with added professionalism. Many top athletes come here to get prepare for events. The Spa menu is 66 pages long! You can also book a series of treatments, a smoking detox treatment, weight loss treatment and many more before your trip.

    Food and drink 6.70 /10

A restaurant with a beautiful ocean view terrace serves all of the meals of the day using organic ingredients. All of the products are fresh. The calorie count is given for each dish. A bar serves alcohol and delicious traditional lemonade.

    To know

Guests can stock up cheaply at the Publix supermarket open 24/7 just opposite the hotel. You can always reheat dishes in the kitchenette.
The hotel is part of the Leading Hotels of the World chain.

If you're in Miami and looking for exotic, green, and lush surroundings, head for The Palms Hotel. Its quaint atmosphere will immerse you in a pleasantly laidback world. To be enjoyed without moderation. The only snag is that the hotel is a bit far from Miami's sights of interest.

The Howard Johnson is probably not a great place to stay if you wish to make the most of Miami Beach, because the hotel is some way away. Its decor hardly makes it a place you are likely to linger, either. However, if you love beautiful old American cars and are nostalgic for the 1950s in general, sit yourself down at one of the Cadillacs in the restaurant and soak up the feel of the United States in the 1950's.

It boasts an imposing architecture and high quality facilities. Everything is here for a pleasant stay, but it's a bit far from all of Miami's hustle and bustle. However, it's the perfect place if you're looking to relax.

The Pelican is without doubt one of the best hotels that you will find in the centre of busy Ocean Drive. It is not a luxury hotel, but the small boutique hotel, created by Diesel creator, Renzo Rosso, is well worth the stay if you want to be at the heart of the action and don't want to spend too much. The Pelican has existed as a hotel since the 30s and is somewhat of a landmark, although it is fairly quiet. Every room is decorated in a different theme, from rainforest to Hollywood. If you don't end up staying here, we strongly recommend you stop by to sample the restaurant's pancakes - they are the most delicious pancakes you will try in Miami; make sure you work up an appetite first though!

The Soho Beach House is a charming little hotel located on the quieter part of Collins Avenue. Previously a members-only club, the hotel has been open to the public since October 2010. The hotel is a cross between an old English pub and beach house and sits right on Miami Beach. The quirky touches like the free photo booth and the playful Cowshed products add a contemporary touch. The major advantages here are its spacious, luxury beach house style rooms and its entirely wooden spa. The hotel is intimate yet extremely animated in the lobby area due to the bustling Cecconi's restaurant, which is also open to the public. For those of you looking for peace and quiet and more intimacy, the Soho Beach House isn't the best option, however, complete with a pool, easy beach access, and high quality tastefully decorated rooms, the hotel is ideal for couples and groups of friends looking for a lively base in a quieter part of South Beach to explore the city from.

Sexy, cool, yet discreet, the hotel's unrivalled calm and hushed atmosphere held within its seemingly fortified walls gives the utmost sense of privacy and intimacy. Like no other hotel in Miami, the sophisticated Setai proudly boasts a Leading Hotel of the World label and banks its success on simple, calm and soothing elements throughout, making it a perfect little haven of peace and quiet for guests needing to get away from it all whilst still having access to Miami's buzzing nightlife and beach scene. Although the hotel does welcome families, it is recommended that the children be extremely well-behaved to avoid any steely glares from Miami's high-society.

True to Mr Versace himself, Barton G has kept his spirit alive by keeping everything as it was with a few minor alterations. You can rent Madonna's suite (the only one with a bath tub) or Elton John's, both of whom were the designer's very close friends. For those of you who can afford it, this is a beautiful hotel to stay at for its stunning pool with 24 carat gold mosaics and meticulous personalised service. A world-famous landmark worth stopping by for a couple of nights.

Without doubt one of our favourite hotels, the very stylish Viceroy Miami has it all with interiors by Kelly Wearstler and a spa designed by Philippe Starck that will wow you over and over again. Although a little bit big to be defined as a boutique hotel, everything has been carefully studied to give the same impact design-wise. Throw in the flawless service, the spacious rooms and the incredible food at the Eos restaurant, the Viceroy Miami runs right into our top three hotels in Miami. The hotel is located Downtown, far from the South Beach hubbub, so it isn't the best choice for those of you looking for a hotel centered around a beach atmosphere, but if you plan on hiring a car, the journey is worth it if what you are looking for is excellence from house-keeping to design. For those of you with young families, the hotel is a lot more child friendly than its quirky design lets on. With the longest roof-top swimming pool in Florida, if not the entire United States, kids will be enthralled for hours.

Cool, sassy and fun, the W South Beach is without doubt one of the highest-profile hotels in Miami and not without good reason. The most impressive aspect of the hotel is its $60 million collection of contemporary art alongside its impressive range of high quality facilities such as its bar, restaurants and pool. It is also located on the beach in a quieter part of SoBe. The hotel is one of the largest in the city and so lacks a little intimacy. A major downer however, is that the rooms severely lack ergonomics and the high quality finish that is expected for the prices charged. Otherwise the gimmicky hotel is fun, young and dynamic and is ideal for a wide-ranging clientele from groups of friends to families and couples.

Combining colonial cool with contemporary casual, this is the ideal place to stay for a wide-ranging clientele including yummy mummies who thank the bulky doormen with a "Thank you honey-bunny". An attractive hotel that has mastered understated elegance down to a T, has all the facilities you would want on holiday, from a rooftop spa to a renowned steakhouse, a funky chic bar to its very own art collection, the Betsy is one of the more pleasant places to stay in Miami. It is the latest addition to its Los Angeles namesake. SLS is expanding across the country. Soon it will be possible to travel across America from one SLS to another! And life will be designer!
