The Miramar occupies an ideal position opposite Port Hercule and the rock holding up the Prince of Monaco's palace; it is also a 5 minute walk from the Golden Square and its Casino de Paris. It is a pity that some of the rooms look a bit worn and have been decorated in a hesitant manner, because it is otherwise a cute little boutique hotel boasting a panoramic terrace.

    Location 7.78 /10

The hotel enjoys a very good location between the districts of Condamine and Monte Carlo, overlooking the town's main harbour, Port Hercule, and with the Prince's Palace to the other side, on the crest of the rock. It is also on the roadside, so your room might get a bit noisy. To get to the Golden Square, for an evening at the Casino de Paris for example, you just have to walk directly up the road that passes behind the hotel. It's only 5 minutes away. The rail station can be reached in the same manner. There is a pizzeria next to the hotel.

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

The establishment promotes itself as a boutique hotel combining an urban location with modern decor and a limited number of guest rooms. Indeed, only 11 room keys hang on the board at reception. 7 of these 11 rooms have balconies (the Superior category) while the remaining 4 Standard rooms do not. The understated attempt to decorate the establishment in a modern style is held back by the lingering vestiges of a previous incarnation, for example, the colour of the walls, the wooden shelf, etc. The walls are also not in the best condition, which is a shame. The facilities include a large flat screen television across the room from the bed and individual air conditioning, but the soundproofing could be better and there is no Internet access or fridge. The bathroom is small and only has a shower.

    Overview 7.20 /10

The most recent renovations were carried out back in 2003. The facade is fairly unremarkable and the lobby boils down to a little reception counter. To the left is the dining room and bar. The decor is contemporary and resembles a boat's bridge. A small adjoining room furnished with big comfy pillows and a large flat screen television serves as a lounge. There is no lift, so you will have to resign yourself to using the stairs in the various communal areas. For example, there is a bar up on the roof that also has a terrace with unbeatable views of Monaco's curved marina. It is a popular place among Formula 1 fans over the Grand Prix weekend. Parties are also organised there from time to time.

    Food and drink

The restaurant dining room is on the ground floor and has big picture windows overlooking Port Hercule harbour. The decor is modern, with parquet flooring painted white, and has a chic marine feel to it where you truly feel like you are on holiday. Open from 7:00am to 3:00pm and from 7:00pm to 10:30pm, the restaurant serves a variety of traditional dishes from around the world featuring fish and meat.

    To know

The hotel is just opposite Port Hercule and next to the Grand Prix circuit. The view from the terrace is second to none, and it goes without saying that the prices here skyrocket when the Formula 1 teams arrive in town.

    advantage

    • Opposite Port Hercule harbour
    • The balconies in the rooms

    disadvantages

    • The rooms overlooking the port are also next to the road
    • The rooms could do with a lick of paint

The Port Palace offers Monaco's own underground living experience, but its classy facilities and terrace overlooking Port Hercule cannot hide the fact that it has been hollowed out of the rock, and is consequently a bit gloomy. The view from the restaurant terrace is unbeatable and is highly popular with thrill-seekers during the Monaco Grand Prix.

It's hard for this local hotel to really stand out for the quality of the accommodation it offers, particularly as it can prove pretty expensive. The hotel is very well-located, close to the Prince's Palace at the foot of the Rock, and its Italian restaurant is excellent.

The Fairmont is a huge establishment that was built facing the sea, affording breathtaking views across the waters of Monaco. The hotel is typical of the American-style 'resort' hotel, meaning that everything here has been designed so that guests don't actually need to leave the sometimes maze-like hotel for anything. That being said, the Golden Square is just two minutes away for those who do fancy venturing out.
