Overlooking the Place des Arts, the Hyatt has a great location for the festival season. Those familiar with the hotel chain will not be disappointed by this hotel, which offers all the services and amenities you'd expect from a Hyatt. For the rest, this luxury hotel may certainly not have a lot of charm, but comfort is guaranteed. The hotel is very popular with business travellers, while families will appreciate the swimming pool!

    Location 7.0 /10

The hotel is located in the heart of the 'quartier des spectacles' entertainment district, the Place des Arts, where most of Montreal's festivals take place, including Just for Laughs, Francofolies, the Jazz Festival, etc. It is also home to most of the city's concert halls.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

The 605 guest rooms, 450 of which are in the standard category, are spread across 12 floors. Boasting a classic decor with a hint of modernity, the guest rooms are furnished with dark wood furniture. Narrow, but clean and functional, these guest rooms have a bay window that does not open (no way to ventilate your room!), as well as a coffee machine, a mini fridge, an alarm clock and a CD player. All you need for a leisure or business stay. The bathrooms are equipped with a very low bathtub, which are fashionable in America! The rest is clean, but very standard. It is a pity that the hair-dryer is not bigger!

    Overview 7.45 /10

This huge, charmless building built in the 1970s has a shopping centre with some 120 shops and restaurants below it, which explains why reception is on the 6th floor. The hotel sports a very modern style with vibrant and fashionable colours (purple, if not mauve), soft lighting, original decor and comfortable furniture (lots of sofas). The reception leads onto the wooden terrace with a view of the square, from which you can watch concerts during the festival season.
As for the amenities, the hotel has nothing to envy its neighbours. A large indoor pool under a glass roof, a stretching and Pilates room where you can bring your DVD for a fitness session in complete peace and quiet. Moreover, the Hyatt has a mixed sauna and hammam open 24/7. A nice way to tire yourself out or unwind when you are suffering from jetlag.

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

Breakfast is served in the restaurant: $16 (£10) for the Continental-style and $22 (£14) for the American-style. The price is justified by the copiousness of the meal served in the modern and elegant decor. The large terrace adorned with a number of plants adjoining this room is unfortunately not open for breakfast. A pity since when the sun is shining it would be an added extra for the guests. If only as somewhere to have a coffee!
A gigantic cylindrical bar proposes an impressive number of liquors. Decorated in shades of purple, the only drawback is the lack of natural light.
You can have a 3-course dinner for $45 (£28) at the Six Resto Lounge, a comfortable and stylish setting decorated in the same shades as the rest of the hotel.
To start or end the evening, guests can head to the wine bar with no waiter service. In fact it's more of a wine dispenser! Guests can choose from 24 wines, white, red or rosé. $2.50 (£1.50) for a quarter glass, $6 (£4) for half a glass and $12 (£7.50) for a full glass, which is not what you'd call cheap, but at least it exists and offers different grape varieties.

    To know

There is a telephone number on the bar tables for guests to share their comments! A rare initiative that gives the hotel a good image.
In summer, 5:00pm to 7:00pm is happy hour on the terrace. A sort of a pre-dinner entertainment by a DJ during which appetisers are served.

Very modern, this Novotel stands out because of its contemporary style and well-deserved 4 stars. The very comfortable rooms and the tasty albeit expensive cuisine served at the restaurant are just two of the hotels advantages in addition to its ideal location: opposite the ice-rink where the hockey matches take place! Puck lovers will be delighted!

This hotel has two different aspects: on one side, the basic-standard rooms, the reception and amenities, all of which is a little outdated and of simple comfort, on the other side, Deluxe bedrooms and ultra-modern suites, stylish and contemporary, worthy of a top hotel. Make your choice! And whichever it is, make the most of the ideal location, a few streets away from Vieux Montreal.

You can cook here, the suites are large and you are not far from the city centre. These are ideal for families and those wishing to entertain guests.
