Undoubtedly one of the best hotels in the island. The Sheraton has several very beautiful stilted bungalows installed by a superb lagoon between Cook and Opunohu bays. There is a good range of facilities - among them a spa and tennis courts.

    Location 5.57 /10

The commercial port (for ferries) and the airport are 6 miles from the hotel. Expect a 15 minutes trip.

    Accommodation 9.70 /10

3 types of bungalows are offered: garden (57), beach (7), stilts (57). All have very good sizes - 485 feet² - with a terrace - 215 feet². The decor, dark wooden colonial style, blinds and shutters, is very refined. Of course, if budgets allow, select a stilted bungalow. You feel suspended between sky and sea, thanks namely to a private deck with chairs and mattresses (and shower) which is accessible by stairs. The room amenities are numerous: a Hi-Fi, masks and tubas (as well as towels). "Excellent" mention  for the bathrooms: separated from the room by a wooden blind. It has a "boat" atmosphere, a very pretty old fashioned clawfoot bathtub, a separate shower, toilet and bidet.

    Overview 8.95 /10

The Sheraton is located between the two bays of "Papillon" island, Cook and Opunohu, and is one of the most beautiful hotels in Moorea. Its advantageous location and its large number of stilted bungalows placed above a turquoise lagoon make it a very appreciated hotel with both local and international clientele. The complex has a green park near a beautiful white sand beach. Near the latter, a Y shaped pier serves stilted bungalows. The architecture and decor of the common areas is in local style and is rather sucessful even if it lacks identity. This does not apply to the rooms which are equipped in the best colonial style.

    Food and drink 8.45 /10

The Sheraton has 3 bars, including one on the lagoon, and two restaurants. International style cuisine, fine setting with local architecture, wooden furniture, and terrace overlooking the beach. The "Roitui Bar Grill" open from 11:30 AM to 5 PM is located between the beach and the pool and also serves snacks. It sometimes has "grill and buffet" dinners on the beach. The "Arii Vahine" is located on the first floor in the main building and opens for breakfasts and dinners. It is a pity that the hotel does not have a restaurant with a more discreet and intimate atmosphere. Note that the "Totatea" bar located on the pontoon of the stilted bungalow also serves breakfasts and cocktails at night.

    Beach 9.20 /10

Nearly 492 feet long, the Sheraton beach allows you to benefit from the magnificent reef view passing along Opunohu bay. White sand, deckchairs (in plastic, a pity) and sunshades for tanning under the sun. Water access is easy but there are a few corals in the first few feet. The hotel has a boat club with kayak, jet ski and a diving club. Several excursions can be arranged at the reception.

    To know

The Sheraton is one of the three premium hotels in the island and has the highest number of stilted bungalows at Moorea, 57 in total. It has a spa, a fitness room and two tennis courts. The latter are separated by the coast road. It has amenities for kids: cradles, baby baths, high chairs...

The asset of this unpretentious hotel: very close to the sea. It has a series of bungalows on a small property near the sea and a restaurant with a beautiful terrace directly overlooking the beach. In brief, an institution not too exceptional but which remains appropriate for small budgets.

Its advantage: a restaurant having a beautiful menu, located near the lagoon and a park planted with trees and flowers. Nevertheless, the Hibiscus will not impress you with its decor or standing. You can choose between: "ventilated" bungalows, not very charming, or "air conditioned" rooms without charm as well.

The Les Tipaniers is located next to one of Moorea's pretty beaches, making it a good destination for a peaceful holiday spent lazing between the gardens and the lagoon. Several types of room are available (bedrooms and bungalows, with or without a kitchen) to help accommodate tighter budgets, and in our view, this is the best hotel Moorea has to offer in this category, although the level of comfort it offers is basic. The rooms do not have televisions or air-conditioning, and the old sound-proofing means you should think twice about bringing children (or even noisy grown-ups), but if you dream of exploring French Polynesia without superfluous trappings of luxury, the Les Tipaniers is just fine. If you do prefer to sleep in an air-conditioned resort, you could do much worse than dine in the Les Tipaniers restaurant, where the delicious local cuisine comes at a very reasonable price if you choose your dishes carefully.

The Sofitel Moorea could very well be described as the hotel of superlatives: It's the largest hotel of Moorea, and the most luxurious. It is located on the border of the most beautiful beach on the island and it is the closest luxury hotel to the Moorea golf course. If you're looking for a resort in an idyllic setting, you can chose this place with your eyes closed. Indeed, we can even forgive the resort for its (vast) size, its views of other bungalows from the bungalows on stilts, the snack-bar menu that is the same as the restaurant menu and the spa's beach, which isn't as nice as the beautiful Temae beach.

The Linareva residence offers accommodation in traditional 'fares' with kitchenettes, meaning you can spend a completely independent holiday here, whilst the limited number of guest rooms (no more than 7) means the place also enjoys a friendly atmosphere. The tropical garden location, between the ring road around Moorea and the sandy cove of Haapiti, backs onto the island's mountainous foothills and overlooks the lagoon's turquoise blue shallows and dark blue depths, where coral formations and multicoloured fish abound. It is well worth putting up with a few mosquitoes and the shortage of nearby restaurants for the feeling that you have the island of Moorea and its unspoilt environment all to yourself.

The Fare Vaihere is a small estate with 5 bungalows set on one of the slopes of Opunohu Bay. It is a friendly establishment where you can meet the locals, chat with other holidaymakers and go on excursions organised for small groups. The owners will give you a warm welcome at the Fare Vaihere and there are many advantages to be had by choosing this hotel, including the free Internet access, free use of bicycles and the free breakfast. This is quite something for Polynesia as other tourist establishments usually charge you for these services. However, since this is not really a hotel, it is probably not the place of choice if you are very demanding in terms of comfort. If you can live without air-conditioning and television though, you are bound to have a good time in Fare Vaihere.

The brand new Legends Resort represents a new concept in Moorea's hotel industry, namely that of an independent luxury holiday in upmarket accommodation, and the added bonus of most of the services you would expect to find at a hotel. The villas here are not located on the seafront, but each has its own terrace and private jacuzzi, as well as the swimming pool close to the reception. Guests can even order dishes prepared at the catering store to enjoy in the comfort of their villa, though the resort also has a gourmet restaurant in case you prefer more elegant dining. Finally, the property's beach is located on the private - though not exclusive - island of Motu Moea, off the coast at Hauru point, and is one of the locations of Moorea lagoon famed for its crystal-clear waters, coral and many fish.

It offers all the charm of a boutique hotel and the friendly atmosphere of a private home....which also happens to be an art gallery and a lounge for the 'happy few'. The sumptuous and unusual decor combines Polynesian features (a decked wooden terrace, walls covered in woven niau, bamboo partitions, etc.) and old-fashioned heterogeneous furniture, with the odd chaise-longue and coffee table here, and a leather recliner and floral sofa there. The Fenua Mataioa has only 5 suites, which is a sign of the sophisticated discretion guests will enjoy here and a guarantee of a welcoming and original place to spend your holiday.
