The Chedi is remarkable for its architecture, decoration, and services. It is a hotel which alone is worth the trip. An excellent choice for a holiday resort.

    Location 7.0 /10

On the seaside, in the embassy district, 15 miles from Muscat's city centre and 8 miles from the airport. The transfer takes 10 minutes.

    Accommodation 9.20 /10

The 151 units fall into 4 categories. The "Serai" rooms, numbering 55, are in the wing of the same name that stands on three floors. They have a 420 square feet area and overlook the sea or the mountains to the rear. In the case of a sea view, the perspective is absolutely spectacular as a huge bay window gives the impression of "diving" into the landscape. An office was installed in front of the bay to better enjoy the panorama. The 52 "deluxe" rooms are in the Chedi wing that spreads on 2 floors on a courtyard decorated with water features and palm trees. The hotel also has 8 "deluxe club" rooms that provide various amenities including free Internet access in the Club Lounge library. Finally, 36 suites, bungalow or duplex, overlook landscaped gardens with water features or the surrounding lawns. They have a terrace with a garden furniture. Other types of housing do not have terraces or balconies.

    Overview 8.70 /10

The Chedi Muscat, opened in 2003 and renovated in 2007, is managed by the GHM chain based in Singapore, bringing together renowned hotels and resorts in Southeast Asia. The architectural identity of the chain is seen in the use of areas dominated by pure geometric lines, the use of exotic varnished wood and white walls. One finds oneself in an atmosphere mixing decorative elements inspired by Asia and Middle East. The square lobby is topped by a caidal tent, the benches at the center are covered with a flood of cushions, and white small tables with trays inlaid with mother-of-pearl are to the side. Attention to the detail is apparent in all areas of the hotel, both inside and outside. Relaxation areas are very spacious, extend to the beach, and are planted with lawns and shady palms. They include two swimming pools. The first is of semi-olympic size and located just behind the sea. It does not have blue background but black, a color generating a surprising result which will not please everyone. The architects had the good idea however to place vellums above the second pool. These avoid to be blinded by the sun in the middle of the day. The second pool located along the beach is a genuine wonder. When you swim in it, the basin lines are confused with the sea level. The place is exclusively for adults and full of serenity. The deckchairs with mattresses are installed beneath a pergola. Towels are supplied.

    Food and drink 9.70 /10

The most important hotel's restaurant, "The Restaurant", has several sections separated with partitions that allow one to take meals in an intimate setting. The main section is home to four first class stands of "show cooking" where we see the cooks prepare impeccable and succulent dishes. The recipes are of Mediterranean, Arabic, Indian, or Asian inspiration. A special mention for the desserts executed with great finesse, whether pastries, foams, or creams. It is possible to be installed indoors, a room with a complex style which mixes European, Arabic, and Asian vaults and panels. Or prefer the outer courtyard with an elegant rattan furniture.
Day and night, the Chedi also offers other restaurants: the lounge lobby and the poolside cabanas. They are located near the pools and have a garden view for the first and a sea view for the second. It is possible to eat in the open air mezze, Mediterranean or international dishes. The latest, "The Beach Restaurant", to eat at seaside.

    Spa 8.7 /10

A new building running the length of the swimming pool houses a 12,000m Spa on its first floor with 13 treatment rooms! The Balinese-inspired spa offers massages and beauty treatments using products from the Sundari brand that are made on site using essential oils, floral water, honey and sea salt. On the ground floor, guests can make the most of the ultra-modern gym which also includes Power Plate, Kinesis and Pilates areas, as well as a separate sauna and hammam for men and women.

    Beach 7.70 /10

The hotel enjoys a private area of 2,600 feet on the long Muscat public beach. The beach is approximately 160 feet wide, lined with fine sand, and is very quiet, but unfortunately it ends on an oil terminal 1 mile south. People are impatiently looking forward to its relocation! However, the water quality is not diminished. The sea offers a beautiful turquoise color and if we contemplate the panorama from the solarium near the pool, comfortably installed on a teak deck, everything is perfect. Relaxation equipment (towels included) are provided. However, the hotel does not offer water sports.

    To know

The Chedi hotel is first class with an ambiance which will please fans of space and clean luxury. It is recommended for its very fancy restoration and its varied categories of rooms, but it does not enjoy the most beautiful location on the beach of Muscat.
To note: the spa, inspired by Asia, which offers massages and beauty treatments with locally produced items (using essential oils, floral water, honey and sea salt). The absolutely superb fitness room has high tech equipment and overlooks the beach.

The Grand Hyatt has revolutionary architecture and decoration which will delight some but repel others. However, its setting, which blends neoclassical and Arabic influences, deserves at least one visit - and more should you be seduced.
