The Amazing Ngapali Resort is one of the best establishments in Nagpali, Burma's up-and-coming seaside resort in the Bay of Bengal. An institution on a human scale home to fewer than 50 rooms directly on the beach, with a spa, spacious and comfortable rooms, and a beautiful infinity pool that merges with the Indian Ocean. All that just 5 minutes from the airport.

    Location 7.0 /10

The resort is near the village of Mya Pyin and Zi Phyu Kone on Ngapali beach, the most famous seaside spot of Burma. It's situated in the Bay of Bengal, directly facing a beautiful white sand beach, near the Ngapali gulf. Yangon and its airport are a 14-hour drive away! It's best to fly in (Thandwe airport is 14 km, or a quarter of an hour away); you'll be there in 45 minutes.

    Accommodation 8.45 /10

The rooms are charming. We are sold by the exotic wood flooring, cane furniture, the decor and attention to detail, like this lacquer owl on the wall, small frangipani flowers scattered about, and the pleasant smell of local wood and other exotic essences. Then come the amenities: The 55 square metres hold your king size bed, an elegant wooden desk with a drawer, a beautiful box of tissues, a luggage rack, a minibar fridge (with sodas and Myanmar beer), tea and coffee facilities, two armchairs with cushions, a coffee table, a free digital code safe large enough to store a laptop, and a television (small screen, rather old) broadcasting 21 channels including CNN and TV5 Monde . The service of course lives up to expectations, with room service 24/7, free Wi-Fi Internet access, individual AC control, two bottles of water and a bag of chips offered free of charge. A large terrace furnished with two deck chairs and a small wooden table affords beautiful views of the sea. The bathroom has a bath with two handles and a flexible shower hose, a separate tropical shower, welcome products in small lacquer jars, bath bubbles, tanaka (a powder derived from a tree with softening properties), a toilet, a house plant, two water bottles, a comb, a razor (without shaving foam ...), the essentials for brushing your teeth (toothbrush AND toothpaste ) cotton buds, bathrobes, slippers and a hair dryer. Unlike the bathrobes, two traditional Burmese hats are offered to customers. On two levels, the three 162m2 Amazing suites have an unobstructed view of the sea. The two floors are connected by a stairway. Dining room, kitchen, living room, they are real apartments. The water for the outdoor shower comes out of a statue of Buddha! A large water container allows you to rinse your feet when you come back from the beach. A hot tub facing the sea is an added bonus.

    Overview 8.45 /10

With only 49 rooms, the Amazing Nagapali Resort is an institution on a human scale, much more pleasant than those monsters with several hundred rooms. Opened in 2004, it has a beautiful infinity pool that merges with the Indian Ocean. It even has a built-in hot tub. Towels are kindly provided on the spot, and the place is very quiet. Shower, white canvas parasols, wooden sunbeds with cushions, nothing missing to satisfy your desires. There's even a slide for children. The decor is charming: a wooded cart, a wooden walkway, a lawn, coconut trees, flower garden, frangipani trees... nature is omnipresent. You're surely going to see giant multicolored butterflies!

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

At your convenience, you can opt for a set menu or à la carte menu to taste the dishes prepared by the Burmese chef. The room can accommodate 150 guests. Breakfast is served from 7am to 10am, lunch from 11am to 2pm and dinner from 7pm to 10pm. In the evening, a dinner buffet is served by the beach and the swimming pool and with a barbecue. European, Italian, Asian, Burmese, Arakane (the state where Ngapali is located): there's really a bit of everything. Pizza, pasta, sandwiches and hamburgers reassure those who are not fans of Asian cuisine. On the terrace, smokers can order the cigarette menu ... This is not a joke: a pack of Marlboros costs 4 dollars! the wine list is well-stocked with wines from Myanmar, France, New Zealand, Spain, Argentina, Italy and Australia.

    Spa 6.45 /10

The Thukha spa is open from 9am to 10pm. It is equipped with five treatment and massage rooms, including one for couples. Here guests are lavished with aromatherapy treatments, foot massages and Thai massages. Unfortunately it is located very close to the road. Note that one Thai massage is offered free of charge if you spend five nights at the Amazing Resort, and two massages at the end of the tenth night.

    Beach 8.70 /10

The beach, with fine white sand, is lined with coconut trees is right in front of you, it's fitted out with a few wooden deckchairs with cushions in the shade of thatched sunshades all very tidily arranged. Showers are also available on the beach. Deliciously warm turquoise water welcomes you to take a swim. There are no flags indicating the safety level for swimming and the beach has no lifeguard. It's like being in a lagoon, as you can touch the bottom far from the shore. When the sea is calm, it's like being at a lake. The setting is very nice, with a far off view of a small island, Pearl Island, reachable by boat from the hotel for $25. Fishing boats sail from time to time. The beach facing the hotel is clean and well-maintained, but as soon as you walk a little farther, it's impossible not to notice the trash lying about, like used lightbulbs from the local fishermen... It is not rare to come across ox carts on the beach! You'll also find street vendors carrying baskets of fruit on their head. However, there are no water sports available. Being nearly 10 km long, Ngapali is one of the largest beaches in South Asia.

    To know

The Amazing Ngapali Resort is closed during the monsoon period, which rages between May and September. That gives the hotel an opportunity to renovate. Rent a bike ($5 per day) and ride through the 10 miles of beach, to the fishing village and the market. Remember to bring cash, credit cards are not accepted and there are no ATMs in the area! The Wi Fi is free, even in the rooms. Two computers are available for surfing the web in the lobby. Boat trips are organized to the island of Pearl Island off the coast. The Burmese hotel group Amazing also owns Resorts in Bagan and Inle Lake. The majority of the guests are German, followed by French. Dinner and a Thai massage are offered every five nights, making for two dinners and two massages if you stay ten nights. Attention billiard lovers: billiards are free at the Amazing Ngapali!
