For lovers of stylish, intimate boutique hotels, Little Arches may be the small gem of a hotel you're looking for. This cosy 10 room property is certainly a charming four star hotel, making a great first impression but with its fair share of little imperfections. However, the warm, friendly service and tasteful décor seen everywhere from the rooms to the common areas may render these insignificant...

    Location 5.21 /10

Nestled in a charming residential area on Barbados's stunning south coast, Little Arches is a 10 minute drive to the nightlife hotspot of St Lawrence Gap and about a 15 minute car journey from Grantley Adams International Airport. The fishing village of Oistins, immensely popular for its Friday night fish fry, is also nearby.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

A boutique hotel in the true sense of the word; Little Arches contains a mere 10 rooms and suites, differing slightly from one another yet faithful to a common theme. Perfect for a romantic getaway, the rooms are warm and inviting, yet remain 'cool' in the face of searing Barbadian heat. Tastefully furnished with pleasant touches like Caribbean watercolour paintings and custom-crafted pottery sinks in vivid colours, the rooms at Little Arches are clean, comfortable and bright. Guests will surely appreciate the little details in the rooms such as the coral stone vanity, terracotta tiles, feature walls that match the upholstered furnishings, and the four poster king-size beds.

The 'best' rooms are the luxury ocean suites (on the ground floor with full kitchens and their own plunge pools) but these also face the road. The poolside deluxe partial ocean view, while charming, is a bit on the small side. Meanwhile, the garden view junior suites are spacious and boast their own deck with alfresco whirlpool tub. Despite the addition of curtains to separate the deck areas, each suite's deck is not completely private from the neighbouring suite.

    Overview 8.70 /10

An old Barbadian home converted into a hotel in 2002, Little Arches evokes a sort of Mediterranean summer villa ambiance, yet proudly flaunts its own Bajan flavour. The attention to detail is incredible; from the pottery murals created by an Ecuadorian artisan to the funky feature walls that match perfectly with the rooms' furnishings. Space is limited though, so don't expect to find your own private corner unless you hide away in your room...

You'll find the hotel's bar and restaurant (also open to the public) up a flight of stairs on the rooftop. It overlooks not only the Caribbean Sea but also the small triangle-shaped pool and spa below. A few sun loungers with bright blue mattresses line the pool, and there are also comfy lounge areas and hammocks found underneath a neighbouring pergola. Extra shade is provided by elegant white curtains. At the rear of the property is a shaded relaxation area of sofas and loungers, overlooking the pretty gardens.

A few steps away you'll find a 'courtesy room' with showers and changing areas, for those guests checking out late. The hotel also boasts a private treatment room where guests can indulge in massages, manicures/pedicures and scrubs etc. Unfortunately the room is so small that its capacity is one guest at a time. Meanwhile, complimentary add-ons include the bicycle and tandem bicycle hire and the book and board game library. Guests staying for periods longer than seven nights are entitled to a host of other freebies...

    Food and drink 9.45 /10

Café Luna is at the heart of food and beverage at Little Arches, and is also a popular address amongst Barbados's local community. In a nutshell; the food is delicious (a Caribbean, Mediterranean and Asian fusion), the menu varied and creative, and the setting splendid with stunning sea views. Oh, and there's not a buffet in sight!

Found on the roof terrace of Little Arches, Café Luna is casual alfresco dining at its best...but you pay for it; with entrées going for around BBD$30 (£9.25), and main courses anywhere between BBD$55 and BBD$90 (£17 - £28). Open from 8:00am until 10:30pm, Café Luna's dinner menu changes daily and there are also weekly specials. Thursday and Friday evenings are reserved for sushi nights, Wednesday evenings are set aside for the hotel management's complimentary cocktail party (full open bar), while Saturday nights you'll find live Caribbean lobster (when in season) and champagne.

There is something quasi-Mediterranean about the setting, with the terracotta tile floors, salmon stone walls, central fountain, Arabesque star-shaped lanterns, brightly coloured tile and mosaic art, and the summery blue and green ceramic dining ware. All of it thoughtfully assembled to provide a casual yet chic dining spot; it's no surprise that Café Luna is popular with locals and tourists alike.

    Beach 8.70 /10

Little Arches is located about a three minute walk from Enterprise Beach, a typical example of the lovely south coast bathing spots. Between 7:30am and 5:00pm, the Little Arches staff are willing to take/bring back sun loungers to/from the beach.
