Welcome and sobriety: these are the keywords at the Maria Rosaria, an established hotel that has been around for 30 years and provides high quality cuisine.
You will not find designer decor here and the architecture certainly seems a bit dated, however, the service compensates for the adequate, but sometimes lacklustre, image of this establishment.
This is a good hotel for relaxing holidays and also offers facilities for families. We highly recommend this hotel if you want to discover villages such as Orosei, which are rich in tradition and really know how to welcome their visitors. If you can, have a word with the owners: they will be delighted to introduce you to their region.

    Location 7.0 /10

The hotel is located in Orosei, the new centre of the province of Nuoro, recently reorganised into a smaller area (Ogliastra) which includes the municipalities of Dorgali, Orosei, Siniscola and Budoni.
The region of Sosalinos is nearby with its pine forest that borders the coast.
In late May, the hotel is the scene of the 'Festival of the Sea', a celebration of religious origin that runs through the village, from the cross to the river, and ends with a procession of flower-covered boats carrying the Virgin Mary.
The deeply religious soul of Orosei (linked to its agricultural roots) has resulted in frequent celebrations and an impressive number of churches: there are 26 in the latter, in this village of only 6,000 inhabitants.

    Accommodation 6.70 /10

The hotel does not offer a room for guests with reduced mobility, however this is one of the points that will be examined by the hotel's management during the next renovation phase.
Overall, the 64 guest rooms of the Maria Rosaria (all of which are standard) attempt, with their colour scheme, to rejuvenate an establishment that is a bit old and tired.. Their sea-green tones and good attention to detail, coupled with the size of the rooms, create a more than positive impression.
The rooms are all equipped with air-conditioning and are divided up according to their colour: green in one wing of the hotel, pink in another, etc. The double rooms can accommodate up to two additional single beds for young children.
With regard to the facilities, the television is the least modern item (it is an old model), and there is a minibar provided (although guests must pay extra for this service). Internet access is not available in the guest rooms, only in the lobby for 4.50 an hour.

    Overview 6.20 /10

Mr Natalino faithfully gave us a tour during our visit of the three hotels run by five brothers from Orosei. You only need to exchange a few words with him to understand the spirit of the Maria Rosaria: the establishment was built in accordance with tradition, using simple materials and some retro elements that give it a certain charm.
Of course, the architecture reflects the trends of the time and the hotel's exterior is relatively modest; the service, however, is welcoming and worthy of a family hotel and the food is excellent.
Tranquillity is assured, perhaps even slightly too much for younger holidaymakers, but those seeking a vacation filled with relaxation, away from the noise of the city, will certainly find what they are looking for here.

The Maria Rosaria is one of the few hotels in Orosei that is open all year round. The guest rooms are spread over two floors and in terms of facilities there is also a swimming pool and an area for children with its own swimming pool with a waterfall. Inside the hotel, the atmosphere is relaxed, which is very much appreciated by the families who stay here.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

Once a week, the Maria Rosaria- offers a 'Sardinian dinner' which includes suckling pig, regional sausages and homemade pasta (including delicious 'busa' - a kind of bucatini that are typical of the region) as the menu's signature dishes , providing an introduction to Sardinian cuisine, especially that of the province of Orosei.
Similarly, the hotel organises weekly 'fisherman's dinners' with a wide selection of fish dishes.
The restaurant is noted for its cuisine, excellent from the starters to the desserts: we particularly recommend the 'seadas', a pastry made from fried dough stuffed with cheese, served with honey and sugar. Although admittedly full of calories, this is to be enjoyed without any remorse!

The nearest beach, which is just over 1 mi away, is accessible by the free shuttle service offered by the hotel.
This is a public beach that stretches along the coast for miles, but there are no deckchairs or parasols provided.
Frequented by locals and guests of neighbouring hotels, it can be very windy, but it has the advantage of being safe for children because the beach slopes gently into the water.
Otherwise, you can always opt for the beach of Marina di Orosei, 4 mi away, which is also accessible via a bicycle path that circles the pine forest. This path runs along the beach that connects Orosei to Marina di Orosei and also constitutes a great place for some beautiful walks...
Finally, a word about Biderrosa Park (7.5 mi away) which is particularly interesting: it is a protected natural park that includes at least five beaches. Every day, access (for a fee) is granted to a limited number of people, and it is therefore advisable to book in advance.

    To know

Originally opened in 1978, the hotel is the first 'creation' of the ITI Group, which also includes the Marina Resort and the Torre Moresca.
The establishment offers a shuttle bus to take guests to the beach. Deckchairs and parasols can be rented here for around 2.50 - 3.50, and the hotel management offers a rate of 9 with transport included.
Through the hotel, it is possible to contact external agencies that organise tours of the area. You can also participate in climbing activities (in Dorgali, about half an hour's drive from the hotel), take a boat trip or rent bicycles.
