The Eagles Palace Hotel belongs to the Tornivoukas family who also own the City Hotel in Thessaloniki. It forms part of the Small Luxury Hotel of the World group. Located a few feet from the market town of Ouranoupolis and the departure point for boats bound for Mont Athos, it caters for families, but we particularly recommend it for couples seeking privacy, relaxation and a romantic atmosphere.

    Location 3.0 /10

The hotel is 80 mi from Thessaloniki; allow for a journey time of approximately 1hr and 30 minutes from the airport. It is located several feet from Ouranoupolis, but the journey is rather long to take on foot.

    Accommodation 6.20 /10

The hotel has 165 rooms, 95 of which are standard doubles. It is possible to have a view over the sea or the garden. Be aware that some double rooms on the first floor can have a view over the restaurant roof with the sea in the background. Preferably choose those with a view over the bay. The double rooms are quite spacious; however, the decoration is not in accordance with that of a five-star hotel. They all have a small balcony, even if, again, the fittings could be more refined. The junior suites, anticipated for couples, are more tasteful, with charming details such as the Jacuzzi bath with a view over the sea. There are a few bungalows with private access to the left of the main building, of which one has a private swimming-pool; but they are not very charming...

    Overview 7.70 /10

Built in 1973, the Eagles Palace was completely renovated in 2006. With several floors, it is arranged over terraces going down to the sea. The hotel blends in well with the surrounding environment. The abundant vegetation in the garden creates a pretty and relaxing setting. Whether in the restaurant, swimming-pool, beach, or in the garden, the different floors give an impression of privacy. The reception, which is perhaps slightly dark, welcomes you into a large area, and then opens on to the restaurant and garden. The bar, located at the side, provides the opportunity to have a drink outside. There is also live music in the garden until midnight. Then, the sound is transferred inside in order not to disturb the guests. There is a vast spa in the basement to pamper yourself, and a covered swimming-pool. The treatments are based around hot or cold water therapies, classic or exotic massages, Turkish bath, sauna, etc.

    Food and drink 7.95 /10

There are three restaurants (Melathron, Amyra and Kamares), a beach bar, and a swimming-pool bar. The Melathron cuisine is based on traditional, Greek and Mediterranean recipes. These are revisited with a vague touch of modern cuisine (in terms of the portions as well...). In the end, there is not a great deal of originality here; however, quality produce is used (very appreciated for the fish). The undeniably strong points of the Melathron are its location and its refined decoration of pale colours. Its visibly old stones recall the sober decor of the monasteries on Mont Athos. Dominating the bay, the dining room is sheltered by two large trees from which candlesticks hang. These softly illuminate the dinner table, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The breakfast buffet is abundant and provides small delicacies: gourmands will not miss the opportunity of tasting the small home-made cakes. With a particular mention of the chocolate ones!

    Beach 5.70 /10

The sandy beach extends over several hundred metres. It has the "blue flag" seal of approval. To get there, you have to go through the terraced gardens. The water is clear, and there is no seaweed. The Ammos beach bar, located just behind, extends over a little pontoon fitted out with tables and chairs; perfect for taking a little break and dipping your feet in the water. The beach, nestling in a type of creek, is almost invisible from the hotel. It therefore gives a pleasant impression of tranquillity and privacy.

    To know

To get to the airport, the hotel organises a shuttle service for several people, or taxis. The establishment has a spa (at an extra charge) offering a sauna, a Turkish bath, a Jacuzzi, and different types of treatments: from the more classic to the more "new age". For example, try the lunar-adjusted massage: it adapts accordingly, to optimise the effects on your body.
