The Angsana Great Barrier Reef displays the same high standards as the Banyan Tree Group to which it belongs. The facilities are of good quality, the decor is splendid and the service unbeatable. Elegance and refinement are key words in this establishment, tucked away in the seaside resort of Palm Cove. Although a large part of the clientele consists of couples, families are also welcome. Considering the size of the apartments the hotel offers, families will definitely feel comfortably accommodated. To sum up: this is an address to remember!

    Location 8.08 /10

The establishment is located at the heart of the small seaside resort of Palm Cove. The town's shops and restaurants surround the hotel and there is a public beach just opposite. Cairns airport is just under a 20-minute drive away.

    Accommodation 9.70 /10

Forget about standard 10 m² rooms here - this establishment houses 67 apartments for its guests! All of these units are the same size but the prices vary according to location in the building, each with a different view (the garden, swimming pool or beach). One would have to be overly critical to have anything to say about the decor! Both modern and elegant, each detail has been carefully chosen, creating a harmonious and refined setting. The dominant colours are black and white, with occasional touches of light tones. The lounge will make you feel immediately at home and the kitchen is probably better equipped than your own! There is even a laundry room available. The terrace gives you the chance to enjoy the view while reclining in a deckchair. There are two bathrooms, giving you the choice between a bath and a quick shower. As for the bedroom, comfort is of the utmost importance. The king size bed and its comfortable bedding are a real treat...

    Overview 7.70 /10

Since 1999, the Angsana Great Barrier Reef has been open all year round and is definitely one of the best establishments in Palm Cove. The staff is young and energetic and will go to any length to ensure the satisfaction of the clientele. The small reception desk stands in a large air conditioned room surrounded by big bay windows. This place also serves as a display case for the products used in the spa and some other items found in all of the hotels owned by the Banyan Tree Group. A delicious glass of ice tea is graciously offered to guests upon their arrival. This boutique hotel does not have many facilities but the gardens are very enjoyable. Two swimming pools are available. The first is designed to look like a lagoon with a bridge at either side that leads to the buildings housing the rooms. The second pool, at the rear of the hotel next to the beach, is less charming but enables swimmers to do a few lengths. Families with children need not worry as there are guardrails surrounding the pools. It's impossible to stay here without visiting the hotel's wonderful spa and enjoying the numerous treatments on offer. The massages will unwind even the most stressed guests. There is also a small chapel used to celebrate marriages.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

The Horizons Restaurant has an exceptional chef. His cuisine is not only exquisite but his blends of flavours and presentation skills also add to the general quality of his dishes. From 6:30pm to 10:00pm, the evening menu is inspired by international cuisine, and gives guests the opportunity to taste all sorts of specialties. We were particularly impressed by the basil-flavoured crème brulée. At lunch, the restaurant serves à la carte dishes and offers a selection of light snacks from noon until 3:00pm. Breakfast, on the other hand, is served in the form of a continental buffet, but guests may also order hot dishes à la carte. The service is a little slow but the food is of good quality. The Horizons Restaurant is located right on the beachfront. You only have to walk down a few steps and you're on the sand. On Wednesdays, the chef prepares a barbecue. Upon request, the hotel is happy to organize a romantic dinner right on the beach.

    Beach 8.20 /10

The Angsana is located just opposite the superb beach of Palm Cove. This is one of the very few establishments affording direct access to the beach, so guests don't have to cross the seaside promenade to reach it. Given the length and width of the beach you will have no problem finding some space! The hotel has equipped an area with deckchairs in the sand for its guests, but there are no sunshades. However, there are some trees providing shade. The fine sand and clear water are perfect for a swim. During the wet season though, along the entire coast of Queensland, the Coral Sea is infested with tiny jellyfish that it is best to stay away from. A net has been fitted in the water to mark out the area where it is safe to swim, but sadly it is very small and very far from the hotel...
