    Location 9.0 /10

The Llac Negre is located in the Pas de la Casa town centre. The entrance to the hotel leads off one of the town's main car parks, so you'll have no problems parking or getting your luggage from the car to the hotel, and the ski slopes are only 300m away, too!

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

The 27 spacious and well-decorated guest rooms at the Llac Negre have an area of 15m2 and feature one panelled wall, giving the place a mountain chalet look, whilst the rattan bedside tables and light blue bedspreads create a pleasant and welcoming ambience. The guest rooms seemed well-maintained for a two-star hotel, and in this respect this is one of the best hotels of this category to be found in Pas de la Casa. All rooms have satellite television broadcasting a large selection of French, Spanish and English-speaking channels, whilst the impeccable bathrooms come with a small bathtub and a selection of hospitality products. All of the facilities the hotel has to offer are particularly well suited to families and groups of young people.

    Overview 6.70 /10

The facilities at the Llac Negre are basic but are nevertheless what you would expect from a two-star establishment. As things stood when we visited, a computer with Internet access was provided for guests' convenience, but Patrick did inform us that he had plans to install Wi-Fi Internet access as of winter 2009, so if you're planning your trip from January 2010 onwards, you should find that Wi-Fi Internet access is available, too. To ensure that those who have come here to ski have a more pleasant stay, the hotel also has a ski room so that guests don't have to take all of their gear up to their room with them. The hotel also has a cafe and restaurant on the ground floor where you can relax with a drink or sample the tasty cuisine on offer in a party ambience.

    Food and drink 6.70 /10

The restaurant serves a wide variety of dishes and guests can dine à la carte or help themselves to the international buffet, which also offers guests plenty of choice. Set menus are available from ?11.50 and consist of fish, a large sausage or a salad to start, followed by steak, fish or duck for your main course and finally a dessert or cheese board. The dining room itself is perfectly pleasant and it's clear that a great deal of effort has been put into the decor, which includes a selection of plants and flowers on the tables. If you need a little more privacy, that's not a problem either, as there are various isolated little corners where you can enjoy your meal without having to listen to the conversation of the people sitting next to you.

    To know

The guest rooms with a terrace cost ?5 extra but it's certainly worth it as the views across the valley are superb.

This establishment is perfect if you like a friendly-family atmosphere, and since the children of this family have taken over the hotel from their parents, the Edelweiss is primarily a family affair. Indeed, as soon as you arrive here you'll notice how Philippe and Marie Elysabeth happily share the running of the hotel, resulting in a cheery ambience. The welcome you'll receive is a very warm one, and since the Edelweiss is open all year-round, you'll probably come across a few of the locals and the regulars.

This 3 star establishment is very much in keeping with the kind of hotel typical to Pas de la Casa, with the quality of its facilities earning it a place in this category. Unfortunaly, it is a bit lacking in the charm department. Nevertheless, it is best suited for families who do not wish to spend too much money on their accommodation.
