    Location 5.71 /10

The Shangri-La Golden Sands is located on the North Northeast coast of Penang, along the Batu Ferringhi beach. It is the most beautiful beach on the island, all things considered. The Bayan Lepas International Airport, located in the Southeast of the island, is located about a forty minute drive away, at a distance of 25 miles. George Town, the capital, is 12.4 miles away, or a twenty minute trip.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

The Shangri-La Golden Sands is built in bow shape. Its white entrance hall is bright enough and has a low ceiling. The green garlands that decorate the place have nothing in particular. However, we find them in many establishments. The sitting room is made up of flowered sofas with parrots.
The hotel has three swimming pools connected to each other including one equipped with a water slide for children. The site is surrounded by plant life. The main pool is monitored by a lifeguard, just like at the beach. The on-site service around the swimming pool is cleverly organised. If you need something, you just have to put a little flag next to your deckchair. A waiter will automatically appear. The majority of the plastic deckchairs are set up on the lawn.
As for relaxation, the hotel has a very disappointing spa. The Essence Vale Spa is simply made up on the ground floor of four rooms furnished with massage beds.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The hotel's 395 rooms are distributed throughout a seven-storey building. The interior colour varies from one storey to the next but the decoration is about the same in all the rooms. The standard room is comfortable with a lounge area furnished with a sofa and thick carpeting. The view looks out onto the beach and the garden, which you can contemplate from a small balcony. It is fully equipped: television, air conditioning, safe, mini-bar with tea and coffee kit, hair dryer, direct line for international calling and room service available 24 h a day. The bathroom is also nice and offers lavender scented welcome products.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The building has three restaurants including the Peppino, an Italian restaurant that has already received several awards. It is open only for dinner and offers an a la carte menu. It's a shame that it is only set up inside. It is decorated with the eternal red checkered tablecloths associated with Italy. The Sigi's By the Sea offers Mexican cuisine also for dinner. For breakfast and lunch, go to the Garden Cafe where the food is local and international. This outdoor restaurant has a nice-looking setting.

    Beach 7.20 /10

The beaches are all public in Malaysia and the Batu Ferringhi beach is no exception. That is why the Shangri-La Golden Sands has not set up any deckchairs in the sand. This beach is considered the most beautiful one in the island. Even if it is pleasant, it is not a postcard landscape. The sand is of good quality, but unfortunately you find litters that blemish the landscape. In addition, be careful when swimming, jellyfish regularly come up to the edge of the water. It is the downside since the water is rather warm. The location is not very windy but rather lively due to the jet skis and other parakiting. The hotel has a water sports club offering different activities like jet skiing or water skiing.

    To know

Lots of shops and restaurants are located nearby the hotel.
In October 2007, the building did not have a kids club. The opening date of the Adventure Zone has not yet been scheduled. It will offer many activities, in addition to the swimming pool's water slides. Located between the hotel and the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, it will gather children from the two buildings.

The Shangri-La Rasa Sayang is located just next to the Shangri-La Golden Sands. But it is a lot less lively and much calmer than its neighbour. It has two swimming pools including one forbidden to children. So it can welcome couples as well as families.

Opened in 1990, the Park Royal is a big hotel ideal for a family trip, given the size of the kids' club. All the common areas as well as the rooms are nicely decorated. Even if the building has a large capacity, the land is big enough to be able to maintain privacy.
