Hotel Novotel Phan Thiet Ocean Dunes & Golf Resort Hotel 4 star
Phan Thiet, Vietnam
Amy Adejokun Section editor

This hotel is mainly designed for golfers, but it also welcomes sports enthusiasts who like to get some form of exercise during their holiday. Families will enjoy their stay here, as there are activities on offer for all. However, you mustn't be too picky in terms of the architectural style, as the place resembles the seaside resort of Grande Motte! This is a real shame, given the beauty of the site, and a more authentic style could definitely have been chosen.

    Location 4.21 /10

The hotel is only a few minutes away from the centre of Phan Thiet, a fishing town some 124 mi to the north of Ho Chi Minh (4 hours by car).

    Accommodation 6.20 /10

The hotel has 135 guest rooms, which are rather dated and furnished in an international fashion: Wall-to-wall carpet, white and black wood furniture, white walls, and a large bay window that opens onto the balcony. It's so basic that it couldn't really go wrong, however, the mattresses are so old the springs are all worn-out... The bathrooms, with their small tub, are very narrow but offer numerous hospitality products. All the amenities you could dream of are here: hair dryer, small fridge, kettle, air conditioning, safe, TV, and phone. What's more, the view, be it of the golf course or the sea, is splendid!

    Overview 7.70 /10

Opened along the sea in 1998, the hotel is a large 6 storey concrete structure with cascading balconies (just like in Grande Motte) that stands in the middle of a superb 18-hole golf course. All the activities on offer, from the restaurant and the swimming pool to the various sporting opportunities, focus on the sea. Nestled between the beach and the hotel, there is a very enjoyable area with 2 swimming pools and a jacuzzi surrounded by a large orange terrace with a wooden bungalow where you can enjoy a massage, a huge green lawn with a playground for children, tennis courts, a small pavilion where you can hire equipment and, finally, a relaxation area under the palm trees that line the beach.
Numerous activities are on offer to hotel guests, all of which are free (except for the tennis lessons; these will set you back about 5). The program includes daily aquagym and running sessions, as well as water polo games, football tournaments, petanque or billiards championships, massage demonstrations, cooking classes, yoga, and tai-chi.
Inside the hotel there are 2 bars with a terrace furnished with ultra comfortable sofas next to the swimming pool and a small spa centre with 5 massage parlours, a hairdresser, a treatment room, and a jacuzzi. For sports enthusiasts, the very well equipped fitness room has a bay window that looks out onto the swimming pool.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The hotel has a restaurant with a fairly basic interior, wall-to-wall carpet, and chairs with upholstery showing flowery motifs. Breakfast is served as a copious buffet, whereas lunch and dinner are served la carte, with a Vietnamese or International menu. The dishes are particularly delicious and quite varied. The room is not very nicely decorated, but the large bay window that looks out onto the sea is much appreciated. However, the best seats are undeniably on the terrace. There is a large selection of local and international wines for amateurs. If you're feeling peckish during the day, the Dragon Beach (located on the beach, as you might have guessed) offers all sorts of snacks.

    Beach 6.70 /10

Although the beach is public, the fact that it's surrounded by the golf course has rendered it inaccessible to non-residents, and de facto, has become a private beach. It's a superb stretch of unspoiled sand. As the tide can be quite high, deckchairs have been placed under large trees on the lawn that runs alongside the beach, but those who need contact with sand to get the beach feeling can lay out their towels when the tide is out. However, if you indulge in too long a nap, you might wake up floating around in the ocean.

    To know

The golf course was designed by famous champion Nick Faldo. Hole number 9, the best known, was elected one of the 500 best holes in the world.
You have to cross the golf course to get to the hotel, which means that your stay will be undisturbed by the noise of traffic.
The hotel also includes 2 villas with 6 rooms facing the sea, providing a perfect place to stay with family or friends.
