The Victoria is a superb hotel at the heart of a lush garden and fully deserves its 5 star rating. From its delicious cuisine to the spacious guest rooms (with their inner courtyard) to the spa village, infinity pools, and play areas for children, hotels don't get much closer to perfection than this one. Families, couples, and groups of friends can all be sure of a great time in this haven of peace and quiet.

    Location 5.56 /10

The hotel is in Phan Thiet, a fishing town some 124 mi to the north of Ho Chi Minh City (4 hours by car).

    Accommodation 8.95 /10

The hotel's 90 very spacious guest rooms are found in bungalows and villas measuring between 71m² and 97m². They are scattered about a huge garden of palm trees, bougainvillea, and other plants. The largest accommodation options, which are the family and Deluxe bungalows, have views of the sea. They are furnished with a big sofa, a coffee table, a sleeping space with a bed and a mosquito net (very useful!), and a desk. The studio-style layout is really quite big. Under the television, there is a big unit with a minibar and a kettle. Wifi Internet access is available free of charge throughout the room (including in the bathroom) so you can keep in touch with your family. The very pleasant bathroom is reached by going down a few steps. Spacious, it has a corner bathtub, 2 wash basins, a large mirror, and a toilet in a separate room. There is also a small private courtyard with pebbles underfoot, an outdoor shower, and a hammock, a luxury you will really appreciate in this part of the world, where it is warm all year round. Also provided are super soft dressing gowns (£12 from the hotel shop), white flip flops, a hair dryer, and hospitality products that can't be taken out of the hotel because they are in little vials. All of the guest rooms have a large terrace that mostly has views over the garden but there are a few that afford views of the sea. They are equipped with recliners, lamps for the evening, and a little table, making them great places in their own right to spend some time. They provide a good place to read, have a chat, or enjoy a drink. The only thing missing is some vegetation for a bit of much needed privacy.

    Overview 8.45 /10

The 17 acre garden planted with coconut palms, banana trees, traveller's trees, and bougainvillea are criss-crossed with little pathways leading to the 60 bungalows. There are also paths leading to the various different areas linked to the establishment: the infinity pool and the larger, more family-oriented one on the hillside; the spa village and its 6 little wooden bungalows housing the whirlpool baths next to the beach; the children's playground; and the beach that runs alongside the garden. The area along the beach has been made into a relaxation area for sunbathing, complete with deckchairs and parasols. To go for a swim, you just have to walk down 3 steps to reach the sand.

    Food and drink 8.95 /10

Nearly everything food-related takes place outside. Breakfast is taken on the terrace looking over the sea. It is a delicious spread full of variety (there is even soft Camembert cheese!), and the quality of the service and the food are both perfect. In the evening, tables are set out around the swimming pool so you can watch dance and music shows as you fill your plate at the buffet, which boasts a different theme every evening. Once again, there is little room for improvement! The choices are endless, the quality second to none, and the service tip-top; the only possible criticism is that the staff can be a little too attentive at times. If you prefer to order à la carte and enjoy your meal in a more peaceful setting, you can head for the terrace of the à la carte restaurant above the swimming pool. There is another restaurant serving snacks for lunch at the other end of the property, behind the second swimming pool. Be warned though: these are no normal snacks! You will find generous salads and pasta cooked 'al dente'. The only downside is the rather inflated price of drinks.
After a good meal, or if you just fancy an afternoon break, the Tea Bar next to the spa offers a wide variety of teas and coffees in a romantic seafront location.

    Beach 7.45 /10

The area alongside the beach has been made into a relaxation area for sunbathing, complete with deckchairs and parasols. To go for a swim, you just have to walk down 3 steps to the beach, which is pretty and very big. Nevertheless, a lot of rocks pop up as the tide goes out, so you will need to take care not to hurt your feet.
