The Rodon is the only resort in the Troodos mountain range. As such, this large 3 star hotel is the only one to offer so many sports activities and services in this central part of Cyprus. The hotel provides an extremely relaxing setting and will suit both couples looking for relaxation and more athletic guests, as the area is great for hiking. Having said that, the atmosphere here is neither particularly festive nor very welcoming.

    Location 10.0 /10

The Rodon stands close to the village of Agros, at an altitude of 1100m. The region is particularly green and enjoys a rather dry climate (temperatures here can soar during the summer months). The beaches of Limassol and the capital, Nicosia, are just a 40 minute drive away by car, whilst the airports at Larnaca and Paphos are both around 80 minutes away.

    Accommodation 6.95 /10

The hotel has 154 guest rooms, including 123 doubles, 6 studios, 15 Family suites, and 10 Classic suites. The lack of decor in the rooms and the resulting chilly ambience, which is only reinforced by the insufficient lighting, is immediately apparent upon entering. Having said that, the rooms are perfectly clean and well-equipped, each having satellite television, a direct international phone line, central air conditioning, a mini refrigerator, a safe, a hair dryer, and a covered balcony furnished with a table and chairs, as well as an armchair that folds out into a single bed. The bathrooms are decent enough but nothing special. The tiles are cracked in places and hospitality products are provided.

    Overview 7.20 /10

The Rodon is housed in a large 4 storey L-shaped building perched on a rocky promontory, and although rather ordinary in appearance, it also looks clean and new. Built in 1985, it is surrounded by a thuja hedge and large pine trees that bring a nice touch of intimacy to the place. Fitted with brown tiled flooring, the lobby may be very spacious but it is also a little dark. Natural materials, such as stone and wood, feature heavily in the decor, so don't expect these to be the most imaginative of surroundings. The gardens, on the other hand, are very pleasant indeed, with their variety of aromatic herbs, vines, and fruit bushes, in addition to well-kept, fresh looking lawns. The hotel's swimming pool is very large so you'll be able to have a good swim without worrying about anyone being in the way. A set of stone steps lead to the sports area, which consists of tennis courts and a huge basketball/handball/football pitch. The hotel also boasts a small fitness centre complete with whirlpool bath, single-sex saunas, massage rooms, and a gym, all of which are impeccably clean.

    Food and drink 6.95 /10

Meals are served la carte during the week and as a buffet on weekends in the Rodon's only dining room. Some dishes are prepared on site, such as the desserts, and the fruit served is grown in the Agros region. For dietary reasons, the emphasis here is very much on fruit and pulses, which will undoubtedly please those who watch what they eat and lead a healthy lifestyle. You'll find the same irritating tendency here as in other hotels to arrange the tables in straight lines and very close together. There is one bar in the lobby and another at the poolside.

    To know

Rodon means 'rose' in modern Greek and the hotel takes its name from the large factory producing a variety of rose-based products located just below the resort, in Agros, which you absolutely cannot miss when visiting the area. With the wonderful array of liqueurs, sweets, cosmetics, and rose-scented candles produced here, fans of the queen of flowers will be in their element. The region is also home to various other plant-based treasures and the floral honey from the Troodos mountains (which you can buy from the hotel shop) is certainly not to be missed.
