Far from the historic centre, in a dull environment, and offering a poor level of service... the Globus hotel is not exactly the most appealing of places. Of course there is a large forest nearby where you can enjoy many beautiful walks, but this seems to be its main, and only, asset. The hotel has a massage parlour, a hair salon, and a large car park that are available for free to its guests.

    Location 3.0 /10

You won't come here without good reason. From the city centre, it takes around 15 minutes by metro to get to the Globus, should you wish to stay here that is... It stands on top of a wooded hill surrounded by apartment blocks, with an express road not far off... there are definitely nicer places to stay if you're after a romantic holiday in the Czech capital. The hotel's main asset is the forest that stretches out behind it, where you are sure to find lots of beautiful trails. The airport is around 10 mi away and should take half an hour to reach.

    Accommodation 6.20 /10

The establishment's 156 rooms are all in the same category: standard. They come mainly as single and double units, but some can accommodate 3 or even 4 guests. The common areas leading to the rooms are dull and not exactly inviting, but at least they're spacious, which is useful if you're travelling as a family or with guests who have reduced mobility. Next, the rooms are decent but charmless. The interior decorating is non-existent and the wooden furniture is cheap, but at least the large windows afford a nice view of the forest. Most of the rooms include a small balcony. The amenities are rather disappointing: no individual air-conditioning, no minibar, and no room service. There is a CRT television with a few foreign channels. The bathroom is small and fitted with only a shower. Ladies will probably be disappointed by the fact that there is no hair-dryer. You may be interested to know that the hotel has 8 guest rooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility.

    Overview 6.45 /10

The hotel opened in the 80s and the last renovation of the 2 modern buildings that make up the establishment was carried out in 2007. Outside, there is a pool near the entrance that provides the setting for a nice stroll. Once inside, you will be surprised by how voluminous the establishment is. A souvenir shop with a wide selection of goods warmly welcomes visitors before they continue with their discovery of this huge hotel. There is nothing in the way of plants, and the atmosphere is that of a mountain lodge, with wooden beams supporting the ceiling, intricate woodwork, and comfortable furniture. Guests then follow a long red carpet that leads to various facilities: an unpretentious Thai massage parlour, a rather convenient hair salon, 2 bars, one of which serves just beers (open from 11:00am to midnight), and a restaurant set at further on, a restaurant set at the very back. It looks out onto a large terrace facing the forest, which is rather enjoyable in summer. From here, parents can keep an eye on their children as they play on the lawn.

    Food and drink 5.70 /10

Forget any notion you may entertain about a romantic dinner, the small restaurant is only useful if you're famished. Open from 11:00am to 11:30pm, it serves mainly Czech specialities, which provides a good opportunity to discover the local cuisine... It's a pity though that the prices are the same as in the city centre. A buffet-style breakfast is served in a spacious and pleasant ground floor room and consists of hot beverages, fruit juice, cereals, and some hot dishes.

    To know

The hotel is relatively convenient for families: it includes a special playground for children, where they can play on the slide, in the sandbox, on the swings... The clientèle is mainly international (Germans, Russians, Dutch, French).

A hotel with facilities adapted for a discovery trip. It is a recommended place for families, as it has rooms for 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. Conveniently located, it allows you to explore the entire historic centre of Prague on foot (the Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge).

There, you will find the standard service of the Holiday Inn chain, but under its "Express" form. There are rooms, the rest is not important. You can have breakfast and dinner outdoors; if you want to act like a businessman on holidays go to check your email at an Internet terminal outside the hotel.

The best thing about this hotel? Not its location (the district is not in the historic quarter of Prague). Nor its restaurant service (after breakfast, you can not have anything more). But it is its small fitness gym where you can laze around graciously in the whirlpool bath after your visit to Prague.

This hotel is some way from the historic centre of the city and you'll need to take the metro or, the easier and more economical option, the tramway to get to the city's main attractions. You won't find this a problem, though, as the lines run right in front of the hotel and the station is very close. The hotel is located in a popular part of the city with plenty of bars, restaurants, and even casinos to choose from, and offers a decent level of service for a reasonable price. Bear in mind that at certain times of the year, particularly during the summer months, you'll find the place swarming with noisy travelling students.

The Tchaikovsky is a great little place for those looking for some rustic charm and who are not too concerned with the available facilities. The rates are reasonable and the guest rooms very large. Although the hotel might not be centrally located, the main tourist hub of Wenceslas Square is barely a 15 minute walk away. The Vltava River also runs past the end of the street.

Beyond the imposing façade of the Beranek hotel, set back from Wenceslas Square, lies an impersonal establishment that is entirely devoid of charm. This really couldn't be further from the image which usually springs to mind of this incredibly romantic city. Apart from the dreadfully ordinary communal areas, the guest rooms are nevertheless decent enough but expensive for the level of service provided. It is good to know that the hotel has its own car park, which is nothing to sniff at in a city where parking can be a nightmare.

The Mandarin Oriental, one of the best establishments in the city, has the advantage of being located away from the crowds of tourists but is still close to some of the must-see sights. The setting is historical and the services luxurious, true, but this haven of peace and quiet for the more fortunate has a certain austerity that feels a bit cold.

The Ventana hotel is ideally located at the heart of the Old Town and is a charming little place providing high-quality, low-capacity accommodation. The modern and elegant decor of this uncharacteristic hotel is sure to win you over, particularly when you take into account the original facilities, which include Duplex rooms which can accommodate up to 4 people and afford beautiful views across the rooftops of the city. If we had to find fault, it would be that the minimalist decor in the guest rooms leaves them rather characterless.
