    Location 7.05 /10

The hotel is located on Namesti Curieovych, at the corner of the elegant Parizska street. The nearest subway station: Starometska (490 ft away). The Charles Bridge and Old Town Square are within 10 minutes on foot.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

There are 372 rooms in all. From standard rooms to suites, including the family suites (4 in total). To accommodate three persons, ask for one of the 48 junior suites: due to their size (408 ft² as opposed to 270 ft² for the standard room) you can install an extra bed. As for the view, it is "a must" to ask for lodging on an upper floor. From there you can see Old Prague or the Vltava (with vista of the Castle besides the expressway, which spans the river at that point). The decoration is simple, modest and "cosy": varnished wood, velvet fabrics and striped cotton. Colours of brown and beige, very wintery. Without criticising the standards of this hotel chain, we would appreciate a lighter tone in the decor. But you can choose your pillow at bedtime... This is a good sign of very good service. The rest follows: the bathrooms are tiled and have a bathtub, a hair dryer and skin care products branded Ginseng Macadamia. In each room there is a flat screen television, a kit for tea / coffee adjacent to the minibar; and of course, air conditioning, telephone (Internet), a safe (free), and even an ironing board and a iron!

    Overview 8.45 /10

Built in 1974 and renovated in 2002 (only the rooms), the Intercontinental Prague is a 9 floor austere building which directly reminds socialist realism. You have to close your eyes, as the lobby has the same ugly appearance. But do not conclude immediately that the hotel provides outdated ambiance and poor service!
First, it offers what many other hotels in Prague do not offer: a real fitness centre, an outdoor aerobics studio in a green area, a swimming pool under a glass roof with an outside view, and 3 solariums (or UV baths) that you better not use (not recommended since these are only UV rays and no solarium device).
Finally, this hotel holds some aesthetic surprises, which you would definitely not expect. Dine at the gourmet restaurant on the top floor, and ask for a room overlooking the Old Town. You will see...

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

The breakfast served buffet style is one of the most comprehensive: in addition to hot dishes (bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes on request) and cold dishes (cold cuts, cheese, smoked herring), there is a corner with a bio mini-buffet to start the day in Japanese style (miso soup, rice and dried seaweed). The dining room is on the ground floor, beyond the lobby. As for the setting, we prefer the gourmet restaurant on the 9th floor: a full view of the rooftops in Prague, through a bay window that runs around the dining hall. The chef is president of the Association of Czech cooks, so expect very beautiful interpretations of national dishes. And enjoy also recipes inspired of French or Mediterranean cuisines which are always appreciated (goose liver, fried scallop, slab of beef with small vegetables).

    To know

A "first generation" hotel in Prague, the Intercontinental remains one of the best located facilities, and one of the best quality-price ratios, if you disregard its bunker-like architecture and its unwelcoming lobby.
A must to try here (also available for outside customers): the restaurant services. For the setting (lunch and dinner on the 9th floor, along bay windows that give the impression of flying over the roofs of the Old Town). And to try something different (breakfast served buffet style offers all the specialties of the world, including Japanese breakfast; it also has a bio-section (included in the price of accommodation, otherwise it costs 18 pounds).
    Lodging tip
Junior suites are quite appropriate for families (48 in total), which are sufficiently spacious (408 ft²) to add an extra bed. For two persons, the standard rooms are sufficient (270 ft²). Request a room on an upper floor to enjoy the most beautiful view (overlooking the Old Town or the riverbank).

Located on a pretty little paved square with a peaceful little garden, the U Pava is something of a Baroque establishment where everyone plays a part in its history. The decor here is like something out of a fairy tale but with a touch of kitsch thrown in, resulting in soft, shadowy light, and a busy decor. The U Pava might not have the most comprehensive list of amenities to offer, but is a romantic destination with a lot of character. Do bear in mind, though, that since there is no lift it's not the best place for those with reduced mobility.

The Hotel Rott is an unpretentious establishment located in the Old Town. It provides a good starting point to discover the sights of Prague, such as the astronomical clock on the wall of the former town hall or the Church of Our Lady before Týn... Don't try to find the latest decorative trends one sees in other hotels, as the style is resolutely classical, sometimes even rustic. Despite a rather arduous journey to get to the guest rooms, the hotel has never lost anyone, or so it claims...

The Ventana hotel is ideally located at the heart of the Old Town and is a charming little place providing high-quality, low-capacity accommodation. The modern and elegant decor of this uncharacteristic hotel is sure to win you over, particularly when you take into account the original facilities, which include Duplex rooms which can accommodate up to 4 people and afford beautiful views across the rooftops of the city. If we had to find fault, it would be that the minimalist decor in the guest rooms leaves them rather characterless.
