The King's Court is one of the newest 5 star hotels to open in the Czech capital. It has taken up residence in a fantastic building in an ideal location close to the metro stations and tram stops, with the Municipal House just opposite. Generously sized and decorated in a modern style, it has fabulous amenities and several different room categories to choose from. However, we were not totally satisfied with the originality of the place, and apart from some flashy details, the finishing touches - the furniture, for example - leave a lot to be desired.

    Location 8.22 /10

The King's Court is just next to a brand new shopping centre in Prague 1. Namesti Republiky metro station and several tram lines are just outside, while the Old Town is just a stone's throw away. Closer still, you can visit the Czech capital's finest Art Nouveau building, the Municipal House. Next to this is the imposing Powder Tower edifice, which was one of the old gates into the city and is now a sight not to be missed! The airport is around 10 mi away and should take about 30 minutes to reach.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

The establishment's 133 guest rooms come in several categories: deluxe (more than 50% of the rooms), executive, junior suite, executive suite, and royal suite. They are all decorated with the same stylish and modern look as the rest of the hotel. The interplay of shapes and materials is quite successful, as can be seen in the carpet or the headboard. Natural light pours in from outside through the large windows, which are framed by thick curtains. Oddly enough, it is the quality of the furniture that lets the place down here and there: chipped varnish, permanent stains on the windows, scuffed table corners... The soundproofing is very good though, even in the rooms overlooking Republic Square. The views on this side are beautiful, while the views from the rooms overlooking the courtyard are disappointing and of no interest. The deluxe rooms measure between 20m² and 30m². Amenities include: individual air-conditioning, a large flat-screen television broadcasting numerous channels, free Wi-Fi access throughout, a minibar, and a welcome tray. The safe can be used for no extra charge and ironing equipment is stowed in the wardrobe.
The ground floor restaurant has a room service menu available from 6:00am until 11:00pm and offers another range of options during the night. In the executive category you will benefit from some extra amenities: hospitality products in the bathrooms, a Nespresso machine, access to the lounge, and a discounted dry-cleaning service. The spacious, marble clad bathrooms mostly have a tropical shower while the rest have a bathtub. There are 2 guest rooms available for guests with reduced mobility.

    Overview 8.70 /10

This superb, imposing building dates back to 1904 and was the home of the Chamber of Commerce before being recently converted into a hotel. After 6 years of renovations, it opened its doors at the start of 2010. The high ceiling communal areas are princely and spacious; there are no bottlenecks as you make your way around the various rooms. The decor and the colourful furniture are both modern in style. Great attention has been paid to the lighting, to create a bit of a feeling of privacy in the open spaces. A few steps behind reception is the lobby bar, Taste !t. Open from midday to midnight, it is a very pleasant, cosy room with low lighting. Upstairs, there is a large, comfortable lounge area reserved for guests staying in the executive rooms. Open from 8:00am until 10:00pm, it offers a tempting range of services: a flat-screen television, a computer with a printer, an all-day snack buffet, free drinks (including beer and wine), a coffee machine, etc. In theory, it should never get crowded or too noisy because the establishment's accommodation policy means only 60 of the guest rooms have access to it. For the use of all guests, there is a business centre with 3 computers with Internet access and printers.
There is a tiny gym open 24/7 in the basement, which can be used free of charge. It almost has too many exercise machines; the space can quickly feel cramped when there are several people using the facilities. There is also a spa, which is open from 10:00am until 10:00pm during the week and from 9:00am until 9:00pm on weekends. It boasts a charming swimming pool and jacuzzi, which are treats hard to come by in the capital. Unfortunately, you have to pay to use them.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

The restaurant is located on the ground floor and is open to the general public as well. Nicely decorated in designer style, there isn't really anything wrong with it per se, it just doesn't live up to the standards that might be expected of a 5 star establishment. Oddly enough, it is rather like a brasserie-style eatery with seating for 85 diners and has a menu of unpretentious, no-frills dishes featuring international cuisine and snacks. Breakfast is served from 6:30am to 10:30am and has a full range of fruit juices, cereals, pastries, hot dishes, etc. When these things have been cleared away, the restaurant remains open until midnight.

    To know

One nice feature of this new establishment is the lounge reserved for guests staying in the executive rooms.

The Central is both a hotel and one of the key stopovers to set off on a visit to the Art Nouveau quarter in Prague. Admire its façade (particularly at night); once in the lobby, surprise... But those who have an eye will quickly discover this building's history. This hotel is infused with particular refinement, the exact place for fans of boutique hotels.

This hotel has good comfort and is well-located for not wasting time on public transport; there is a restaurant open for all meals during the day (which is not always the case with hotels in Prague). The hotel has a personal touch that willl definitely win over "book addicts." Kafka used to work at this address before it became a hotel.

The very first hotel to come from the Buddha-Bar brand (following a successful global franchise) was not launched in Paris, New York or even Dubai, but Prague - where history and beauty come together to create an impossibly romantic setting. Every lovers' getaway needs the hotel to match...and we've found it in this exclusive boutique offering.

The Mandarin Oriental, one of the best establishments in the city, has the advantage of being located away from the crowds of tourists but is still close to some of the must-see sights. The setting is historical and the services luxurious, true, but this haven of peace and quiet for the more fortunate has a certain austerity that feels a bit cold.

The Ventana hotel is ideally located at the heart of the Old Town and is a charming little place providing high-quality, low-capacity accommodation. The modern and elegant decor of this uncharacteristic hotel is sure to win you over, particularly when you take into account the original facilities, which include Duplex rooms which can accommodate up to 4 people and afford beautiful views across the rooftops of the city. If we had to find fault, it would be that the minimalist decor in the guest rooms leaves them rather characterless.
