Located on the side of the Mala Strana, and a stone's throw from the Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, the Neruda is a pretty establishment. Here, we recommend the accommodation units that occupy the more recent building. This is a modern establishment built around a covered and furnished interior courtyard. However, one down side is that you have to climb the entire upward sloping Neruda street before you can finally set down your luggage.

    Location 7.0 /10

The hotel is located at the top of the pretty, cobbled Neruda Street, at the foot of the castle. This street is full of shops and restaurants that serve typical Czech cuisine, and there are also lots of bars in the immediate vicinity. The nearest public transport links can be found at the end of the street, with the tramway and metro both respectively 7 and 20 minutes away. If you are tired of walking or just fancy a breather in between visits to different sights, head for the wooded park on the neighbouring hill, where you can enjoy some fresh air and stunning views of the city at the same time.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

In addition to the establishment's 20 original rooms, another 25 were added in 2005. These come in two categories: Standard (15 to 25 m²) and Superior. The older rooms feature modern and refined decor that favours yellow, brown and beige tones, with grey wall-to-wall carpeting. There isn't much in the way of furniture and the walls bear no decorative elements, except for a printed sentence. What's more, the rooms seem quite empty and the wooden furniture is tattered. The amenities include a mini-bar, cable Internet connection (extra charge), individual air conditioning, and a small CRT television that broadcasts a limited number of channels. The bathrooms are elegant and spacious, and most include a bathtub and a hair-dryer. The size of the newer rooms is adequate, and they feature beautiful parquet flooring and nice, quite original decor, as seen in the room that includes a concrete bathtub in the bedroom. They also feature a flat-screen TV and separate toilets. Accommodation tip:
ask for a room in the modern section.

    Overview 7.95 /10

The building dates from the 14th Century and opened as a hotel in 2000. It's named after a famous 19th century Czech author, Jan Neruda, whose name inspired the pseudonym of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. The façade is pretty and clean, the small lobby features some nice flower arrangements, and the reception area boasts some modern touches such as the bare concrete steps. You'll quickly notice the smell emanating from the restaurant opposite this area. We wondered whether maybe there were ventilation problems in the kitchen. What a pity! The restaurant is located in a covered, inner courtyard that is lit by natural lighting. It features arches, a bar, and modern decor that works harmoniously with the historical stonework of the building.
Unfortunately the communal areas of the less recent part seem a bit worn out. In 2005, a second building increased the capacity of the hotel. This was a success, and do note that the more recent rooms are slightly more expensive. The corridor that connects these two sections has a low vaulted ceiling that creates a sort of modern medieval setting, where photos of Jan Neruda adorn the walls. The hotel's small spa includes 2 saunas and a jacuzzi, but unfortunately guests have to pay to use it. There is a nice terrace on the top floor where you can enjoy a breath of fresh air.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The beautiful restaurant is located on the ground floor, under a nice glass roof that lets in plenty of natural light. The decor is refined and modern, and the furniture boasts bright colours. The area is divided into several areas, connected by sets of steps. The menu offers international cuisine and Czech specialties. This is where breakfast is also served, with fruit juices, pastries and hot dishes.

If you already know Prague and don't want to stay in the town centre (Wenceslas Square), too noisy to your taste, try this hotel in Mala Strana. Its location is quite convenient for a visit to the Castle quarter on foot. If you dislike walking (because the area is a little bit sloped), trams pass just outside the hotel.

U Krale Karla is the perfect fairytale setting for those who fancy a journey back in time to the Middle Ages and an insight into religious art. Its limited number of guest rooms makes it a rather exclusive destination where tranquillity and pleasure are top priorities. The rooms themselves are large and the services provided perfectly decent but not over the top. Do bear in mind that despite the view of the castle used to sell the establishment in the brochure, it's actually more like a view of the surrounding wall and foundations. Nevertheless, this is still the sort of place you could easily fall in love with.

The House of Red Lion is a friendly, family-run hotel located near Mala Strana, a stone's throw from the castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. Don't expect to find yourself surrounded by the latest decorative features, because the ambiance here feels more like that of a family guest house. It is well looked after, and offers decent accommodation options for families.

The Certovka is on the same side of the river as the castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, and admirers of Charles Bridge will also be happy here, as it can be seen from some of the hotel windows. It enjoys a very good location, offers a modest range of amenities and its rooms, which are decorated in a classic, cosy style, are small.

Remember the name of this hotel: you will definitely want to return, at least to dine. Because even if this hotel is not the best in its class, its dinner menu is unusual (steaks of all kinds). As for the rooms, they are pleasant if you love old style; nevertheless, the hotel is well situated.

The Ventana hotel is ideally located at the heart of the Old Town and is a charming little place providing high-quality, low-capacity accommodation. The modern and elegant decor of this uncharacteristic hotel is sure to win you over, particularly when you take into account the original facilities, which include Duplex rooms which can accommodate up to 4 people and afford beautiful views across the rooftops of the city. If we had to find fault, it would be that the minimalist decor in the guest rooms leaves them rather characterless.
