The hotel is located on the northern coast of the island, in the heart of the Playa Dorada complex, 9 miles east of Puerto Plata. To reach the hotel from the airport (located 19 miles away), you will need 20 minutes.
All 156 rooms of the hotel are housed in 9 colourful two-storey buildings, without elevator. There are two types of rooms: standard and superior rooms. The majority of the rooms have a terrace or a balcony opening onto the gardens or the swimming pool. Simple but spacious enough, clean and well decorated with original paintings, they have rattan furniture in a sitting room, an American bar, a sofa, two armchairs and a coffee table. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, telephone, satellite TV (55 channels) and a paid safe ($ 11 per week). But, there is no refrigerator. The bathroom has a bathtub with a fixed shower, separate toilets, personal skin care products and a hair dryer.
Decorated in the local style, the Dorado Club is a beautiful hotel complex consisting of a main building and 9 units to house the accommodations. All surrounded by lavish greenery, the location is close to a beautiful sandy beach. Many facilities are offered to customers. It is a pity, however, there is only one swimming pool of modest size. Some 985 ft away you will find a famous 18-hole golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones.
As part of your all-inclusive package, you can choose between three restaurants in the hotel. The Marien, the main restaurant, serves all three meals buffet style and the food is varied and colourful. The menu includes both local and international specialities. Two restaurants serving a la carte allow you to choose alternative ways to spend a pleasant evening, with a reservation, with a choice of Mediterranean cuisine or barbecue. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The hotel also has a snack bar near the beach serving from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a pool bar.
The beach of the Dorado Club sits betweenthe Tropical Playa Dorada to the left and the Paradise Beach on the right. The Playa Dorada is renowned for the quality of its beaches. The beach of the Dorado Club is no exception to the rule, but the access to it is fairly remote. Clean and spacious, the beach is equipped with deckchairs and sunshades (available for free). A water sports centre offers various non-motorised (no extra charge) and motorised (paying) activities. A snack bar offers lunch.
Built in 1988, the Dorado Club, a member of the hotel chain Hotetur, does not seem to suffer from the affects of time. It must be said that this hotel underwent a major renovation in 2000. Perfectly maintained, it offers great benefits for an institution of its kind.

Gran Ventana is one of Playa Dorada's largest and busiestall-inclusive resorts. Located in Puerto Plata north of the country, it is right on the beach and has all the facilities guests used to this type of hotel can expect and modest but clean rooms and very average food even at the à la carte restaurants. Lively in the evenings, the hotel is ideal for a wide-ranging clientele, from groups of friends to families with young children on a budget.
The boutique Casa Colonial, part of Small Luxury Hotels, is the only real five-star hotel in the Puerto Plata province. As the name suggests, the hotel's style is based around the country's plantations, but remains contemporary. Holidaymakers looking for a luxury experience right on the beach will revel in a stay here. However, it is worth noting that the hotel is located right in Puerto Plata's resort cluster in Playa Dorada, and its neighbour is a lively Barcelo resort, so the hotel isn't one of those isolated Robinson Crusoe properties. The highlight here is the spectacular wild garden and lake, and of course the hotel's location, right on the beach complete with postcard perfect golden sands and turquoise waters. Casa Colonial is ideal for couples looking for a romantic upmarket break.
The Grand Flamenco Puerto Plata is one of the hotels offering the highest standing in the Playa Dorada complex. Offering excellent benefits, the hotel is suitable for all kinds of clientele.

One of the best resort hotels we have reviewed in the last few years, the Be Live Gran Marien, has been extremely tastefully renovated, especially in bedrooms, and is a spacious enough resort to welcome the lively crowds of friends and families on holiday. Located in the heart of the Playa Dorada, the Be Live Marien is a luxury resort that offers a 24/7 all inclusive formula and numerous facilities, including a spa centre, a well-equipped mini-golf, a large lagoon swimming-pool, a nightclub, a casino, an ultra-modern fitness centre, a large culinary choice and an 18-hole golf course. This lively hotel is perfect for party-goers, sports enthusiasts, fitness fiends and families on a budget.

You don't like large hotel complexes and the 'all-inclusive' concept makes you shiver? But you are looking for a hotel with a beautiful beach, a delightful swimming pool and a great restaurant? Then the Blue JackTar could be the place for you.
The hotel is located in Puerto Plata, on the Atlantic Coast of the Dominican Republic. Made up of villas, you'll feel like you're in a protected little village. The site is huge, but the beach (playa Dorada, one of the most beautiful in the area) is less than a 5-minute walk from the guest rooms. Overall, this is a quality establishment.
