    The hotel is situated at the northern tip of Bavaro Beach, just before Arena Gorda Beach, and to the north of the Dominican Republic's tourist epicentre, Punta Cana, where the fine sand beaches stretch for 25 miles along the southeast coast. Allow for 20 minutes by car from the international airport of Punta Cana (22 miles away), and three and a half hours to reach the capital. The city of Higüey with its famous historic basilica is just 37 miles away (an hour's drive), while the fishing village of El Cortecito is only 7 miles away.

    All of the guest rooms at the Iberostar Bavaro have been carefully decorated in shades of pink and orange. Fitted with tile flooring, the room facilities include: air-conditioning combined with a ceiling fan, a satellite television (35 channels), a minibar which is replenished daily (beer, water, soft drinks), tea and coffee-making facilities, a key-operated safe (the use of which is charged at around £2 per day), a telephone, an iron and an ironing board. All of the rooms have a furnished balcony. The bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub and flexible shower, a hair-dryer, complimentary toiletries, tissues, a make-up mirror, a toilet and a bidet.

    Built in 1997 and renovated in 2012, the Iberostar Bavaro has 75 bungalows in a pink, neo-classical three-storey building that is serviced by lifts. The entire complex contains 1,590 guest rooms and is set in a charming, vast tropical garden with flamboyant fountains and flower-lined paths. It's impossible to be bored here, with the sports areas, the gym (located above the spa with a panoramic sea view), the casino, the nightclub, and the daytime and evening entertainment in the theatre. Children can run wild at the kids club, equipped with a mini ping-pong table, mini billiard table, table football etc. There's also a trampoline for children to expend some of their energy. It's hard to resist the lagoon-like turquoise water of the superb swimming pool, with a coconut tree island in the centre. There is also a pool for children. The sun lounge around the poolside is equipped with deckchairs, mattresses, palm leaf parasols and showers. Towels are supplied at the pool. The Caribean Village is great for shopping, and also marks the border with the other Iberostar hotels.

    Food and drink 7.95 /10

    The Iberostar resort's six restaurants (semi-open or air-conditioned) offer high-quality cuisine. Five of them are à la carte and are only open for dinner: the Oriental, the Mexican, the Steakhouse, the Cajun and the Gourmet. The Pagoda restaurant deserves a special mention for its remarkable decor under a real pagoda! The Hispaniola serves an equally good international buffet with show cooking. It also has a children's area decorated with a big painting of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Breakfast is served between 7:00am and 10:00am, lunch between 12:30pm and 3:00pm, and dinner between 6:30pm and 10:00pm. The snack bar on the beach is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, although snacks are available 24/7 throughout the resort. You can enjoy your favourite cocktails in one of the resort's five bars.

    The beach consists of a mile-long wide strip of fine white sand bordered by coconut trees with a large coral reef in the distance. With 28 C° clear turquoise-blue waters and the coconut palms acting as natural parasols, it is difficult not to fall in love with the place! You can play beach volleyball or football in the shade of the coconut trees. Massage cabins with thatched roofs are spread out along the 800m beach, which is also equipped with plastic deckchairs, palm leaf parasols and showers. The water sports base has a great number of activities to offer from 8:00am to 5:00pm. A separate area is cornered off for swimmers away from the water sports activities. Snacks are served at the beach bar all day long. From here you can hear the sounds of helicopters flying over the Punta Cana area. The beach is supervised, and has a flag to indicate the safety level for bathing (rest assured, it is often green!).

    The Iberostar Bavaro is situated in an exclusive complex made up of the four Iberostar hotels. The establishment includes, among other things, a nightclub, a casino, a spa and a fitness centre, though unfortunately guests have to pay for the Wi-Fi.
