Previously part of the same complex as the other two neighbouring Al Hamra hotels, the Al Hamra Palace Hotel, like Al Hamra Village across the road, is part of Casa Hotels and Resorts. Located right on the beach, the enormous wedding-cake structure is balanced out by the quality of the beach the hotel shares with neighbouring Al Hamra Fort Hotel. The highlight of the resort is the beach and its weekend beach parties, and its recently refurbished rooms. Ideal for a family that is fond of large resorts and that wants to be on the beach, Al Hamra Palace is impersonal but lively.

A very lively festive hotel that hosts beach parties at the weekends.

    Location 6.59 /10

Located towards to the south of the emirate, the resort is located right on the beach and sits between the Ras al Khaimah Waldorf Hotel and the Al Hamra Fort Hotel. The Palace's sister hotel, Al Hamra Village (see our review) is just across the road and is a much quieter option.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

In total 117 suites with beach views make up the rooms. Spacious and with beautiful sea views, all rooms are similar in style and facilities. Recently renovated, the rooms are fresh and fairly pleasant. The rooms are designed like small apartments especially for groups and families and range from a one-bedroom to five bedrooms. Mostly all in turquoise and neutral beige tones, the rooms all have the same mod-cons including a large flat screen television if every room, a mini-bar, air-conditioning and a safe.

    Overview 7.70 /10

One of the seemingly largest constructions in the area, there are less rooms one might imagine. With 117 rooms Al Hamra Palace isn't the largest of resorts in the area in terms of the number of rooms, but it does have some of the most spacious rooms we have seen this far. Chintzy especially in the shared spaces of the hotel, the décor may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, the rooms having recently been refurbished are more modern.

The hotel also has two outdoor pools, a gym, two tennis courts, beach volleyball, a click contemporary beach bar, where weekly Friday beach parties are hosted, a desert camp for smoking shisha, a kid's club as well as a few massage rooms. There is also a number of water sports on offer (at an extra cost). Wi-Fi internet is available for free in shared spaces but comes at an extra cost in the rooms.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

In terms of food and drink, the all-day dining restaurant is fairly good, with a good range of dishes, good quality produce and good service. Otherwise there is the à la carte seafood restaurant Samamak, which is one to try for its food and relaxed atmosphere if staying in the region. The hotel also offers 24-hour room service.

    Spa 6.7 /10

There is no spa as such, but there are a couple of massage rooms available. Guests can opt to have a treatment in their room too. All treatments must be booked at least a week in advance in peak season.

    Beach 9.70 /10

The beach which the hotel shares with its neighbour, Al Hamra Fort, is one of the most beautiful in the country. There is a slick new bar on the beach, water sports as well as regular weekend beach parties - and lots of oversized bean bags for lounging. Guests can book to try a range of water sports, which is extra.

    Decoration 6.7 /10

The rooms are bright and fresh in turquoise and beige tones while the rest of the hotel's main interiors and exteriors remain fairly garish.

Not to be confused with the Bin Majid Beach Resort, the Bin Majid Beach Hotel is located on the beach about a ten-minute drive from Ras al Khaimah city centre. The hotel lacks atmosphere but the advantage is that it's very quiet. The rooms are nothing to write home about, if not a little out-dated and garish in style. The highlight of the hotel is that it is right on the beach.

      • Location -

Although the standard of hotels in Ras al Khaimah isn't particularly high to start with, the Ras al Khaimah Hotel (operated by Hansa Resorts) is one of the worst of the bunch. Dirty, garish and generally in desperate need of complete refurbishment, it's a wonder the hotel is even still open and operating under the current conditions. The hotel is located close to Ras al Khaimah city centre up on a slight hill that looks out over the lake and mangrove, which can be seen from the back of the restaurant squatting on the hill by the pool. The RAK Hotel isn't somewhere you would spend your holidays - at best you might spend a night or two if desperate. The worse of it is the 'health' club and restaurant with special mention of the terrible breakfast - be warned, this is not one would imagine to be a "boutique hotel", as mentioned on the hotel's Facebook page.

Al Hamra Village is the sister hotel to the larger Al Hamra Palace hotel across the road, but doesn't have any connection to al Hamra Fort next to the Palace. A smaller more intimate and peaceful little resort with a pool, large golf range, bar and restaurant, the hotel is perfect for couples looking for somewhere quiet to spend the holidays and not too far from the beach (just across the road). Guests here can also use the facilities at Al Hamra Palace.

The Fort Hotel is a large impersonal concrete structure located on a long strip of beach that is shared with neighbouring hotel Al Hamra Palace. Designed around the theme of Iranian wind towers that are dotted around a well planted garden, the hotel, for its size, is well appointed. The resort is ideal for families on a budget and with teenage kids.

The Khatt Springs by Golden Tulip is located close to the Hajar Mountain range and has a somewhat original shape. A kitsch, tired-looking fortress made of pink glass and aluminium, guests who stay here must be warned about the particularities of the hotel's design - inside and out. Inside the décor is plainer but non-descript and somewhat grim. The hotel attracts a local clientele mainly from the UAE or from around the Gulf. The main draw are the views of the surrounding mountains, which change colour as the sun makes its way from east to west.

Located right on the coast on a hill, the Rotana Cove is the Rotana group's first beach resort as such. The Banyan Tree Ras al Khaimah Beach is one of two Banyan Tree hotels in the emirate. Just as luxurious as its sister hotel in the desert, the Banyan Tree al Wadi, the beach property is all the more exclusive due to its being accessible via a two-minute boat ride from the mainland as it is located on a sand bar in the Arabian Sea. A small boutique hotel that is ideal for spending some time catching up on your sun tan for a weekend. As the hotel is so small, there isn't much to keep guests from exploring outside the hotel, but it makes for a great place to stay for a couple of days - after exploring bustling Dubai for example. The hotel is best-suited to couples looking for a romantic getaway.

There are three Hilton hotels in Ras al Khaimah, two of which are in the main city area and one which is on the beach. The Hilton Ras al Khaimah Hotel, as the name suggests, is in the centre across a garden from the Hilton Doubletree. Although Hilton has a loyal following of returning guests, the City hotel was without hesitation one of the worst we have ever visited in our five years at Easyvoyage. A hotel that has outstayed its welcome in Ras al Khaimah, its building is dated, the interiors are dated, the pool area is grubby, the food is awful and the rooms are dirty. Having spoken to guests staying at the hotel, we are not alone to hold a negative opinion of the hotel. Having said this, we heard rumours that the hotel is due for a complete refurbishment in 2013. In its current state, we would advise our readers to avoid this hotel altogether as it was far below standard for a Hilton.
