The Iberostar Creta Marine is an immense seafront complex offering luxury hotel accommodation. It is laid out like a village, and its little groups of buildings retain a feeling of privacy while also boasting good quality facilities spread over a large park. There are also some nicely located artificial beaches, which are a bit small and not especially attractive, but nevertheless a positive point.

    Location 6.0 /10

The Iberostar complex is near the picturesque village of Panormo, 11 mi from Rethymnon and 34 mi from Heraklion. A bus stop near the hotel enables you to get to the town in 1 hour. The hotel faces the sea and is next to the new road built to link the island east to west along the north coast. Next door is another hotel belonging to the same group, the Panorama. They are separated by a large park and well laid out car parks. Like many other hotels on this part of the island, the Creta Marine is a bit isolated. There are no shops or restaurants in the immediate vicinity, so you will need to head for Panormo to do any shopping. Arkadi Monastery is one of the nearby tourist attractions, and it provides a great opportunity to take the old road leading from village to village through the Cretan countryside.

    Accommodation 6.70 /10

The hotel's 359 rooms are divided into several categories, depending on where they are located in the village. The Standard and Junior Suite rooms are housed in the main building, and all are equipped with a balcony and terrace and, more often than not, have a view of the sea. The Standard rooms measure about 18m² and are decorated in a standard but pleasantly stylish manner, with plenty of light. They have all the facilities you could ask for (individual air conditioning, a fridge, etc.) but no Internet access. Also, there is a fee for use of the safe. All the rooms have a sofa bed and a clothes rack, which are both handy. The modest bathrooms all contain a bathtub, a single washbasin, and hospitality products. Alternatively, you can book into a Bungalow, a room with a view of the sea, or various types of Suites. Ten or so rooms of the rooms are specially designed for guests with reduced mobility.

    Overview 7.03 /10

The immense entrance hall gives an idea of the imposing size of the hotel. Upon entering, the visitor is welcomed in by a reproduction of a bronze sculpture of Zeus, the original being on display in the Athens museum. To the right is a cosy bar, which has a few games tables. Lots of soft sofas and armchairs are set in little alcoves around a sprial marble staircase that leads down to the lower ground floor. The decoration is stylish and distinguished. There is a jewellers and a mini-market selling souvenirs, common seaside products and food, and just next door to this is the restaurant entrance. Further on is the pleasant indoor swimming pool and the modest thalassotherapy and spa centre.
Outside, the centre of activity is the large swimming pool, which has plenty of open space around it and overlooks the sea. In order to fully grasp the size of the complex, you will need to have a little walk around it. The large park consists of a well spaced group of low cottages organised into a 'village' , which blends in nicely with the surrounding landscape. The different parts of this village correspond to the category of the accommodation (VIP, Family, etc.). The park itself is full of trees and flowers, making it a really pleasant place for a stroll, and although the village is large, it manages to retain a sense of privacy. Down below, there is another swimming pool, this one a salt water pool in a more peaceful location. It also faces the sea. A staircase leads down to the two artificial beaches. There are plans to open a night club.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

Several holiday packages are available, including half board, full board and an all-inclusive formula. The hotel has three restaurants. The one in the main building is located in a large, fine room with carefully arranged tables. Including the terrace, it can seat up to 730 diners. The menus include international, Italian and Greek cuisine, which are served as a buffet. There is also a corner featuring Cretan cuisine. Snacks are available at the swimming pool snack bar, another restaurant prepares grills, and aficionados of fine cuisine will head to the Thalassa for an à la carte dinner prepared by a famous chef.

    Beach 6.30 /10

The hotel has two fairly well located artificial beaches, although the colour and quality of the sand are not too appealing. Both are walled in by stone and concrete walls, which are doubtless effective in their purpose but do not add to the appeal of the beaches. Guests can make free use of towels, the deckchairs and the parasols at the swimming pool. Unfortunately, these must be paid for down at the beach.

      • Advantages

Environnement de l'hôtel très beau. Bungalow vue mer très bien Personnel très gentil
