From the outside, the Rodos Palace is a massive 17-storey building, impossible to miss from the coastal road that passes in front of it. It's not the most welcoming of places at first glance, but once inside, guests remember that they shouldn't judge a book by its cover. However, the 70s inspired style is very present here, which might not be to the liking of all guests! However, despite its age, the Rodos Palace offers facilities that are suitable for guests of all ages. Interestingly, the hotel has welcomed some very famous guests, such as François Mitterrand and Margaret Thatcher.

Location
6.5/10
Located on the western coast of the island of Rhodes, the Rodos palace stands on the coastal road, facing the beach of Ixia. The city of Rhodes is only 10 minutes away by car (2.5 miles). As for the airport, it is approximately 6 mi away and will take around 20 minutes to reach by car.
Accommodation
7.20/10
With 785 guest rooms, this is not exactly your small family establishment! However, it offers all sorts of accommodation solutions, and in various locations on site. Most of the rooms occupy the hotel's two buildings. They're each decorated in a different fashion but all share a marked 70s style. The colours don't match and the setting seems a little disparate. However, in terms of amenities, everything is provided: 24/7 room service, a free safe, air-conditioning, a TV... The more recent suites occupy 1-storey bungalows located in the garden and offer a much more modern setting. Most come with a swimming pool at the front, and a balcony at the back. They all include a kitchen and a lounge. Regrettably, the toilet and bathroom are not separate.
Overview
7.50/10
The Rodos Palace opened in 1974 and is composed of two huge buildings, one 17 storeys high and the other 7 storeys high. Additionally, smaller, 2-storey units are dotted around here and there in the garden. In terms of surface area and the number of rooms, this hotel is one of the biggest in Rhodes. The hotel as a whole is very well looked after, but especially in terms of the furniture, it could do with a bit of a makeover. The lobby is huge but badly lit. It features a big mosaic on its floor, and the decor is primarily made up of window displays of antique objects. Beyond this area you'll find a succession of little lounges and dining rooms that all boast a different look. Unfortunately, too many different styles mixed together make the setting a little overdone. The indoor swimming pool lies under a huge rotunda, where all sorts of events are held. The main outdoor swimming pool is big, but not big enough, it seems, with regard to the number of rooms. Just next to it there is a children's pool with a slide. The hotel claims to have a spa, but in fact it's more akin to a gym, open to all. From the changing room, you may proceed to the jacuzzi, the sauna or the Turkish baths. There are also two treatment rooms used for massages, and the treatments on offer are reasonably priced.
Food and drink
8.70/10
In terms of the food on offer, the choice is unbelievably wide! There are six restaurants, each of which offers a different type of cuisine, served à la carte or as a buffet. The Rodos Palace doesn't really include a main restaurant, as meals can be taken in various different places around the hotel. Breakfast is served as a buffet at the La Terrasse restaurant that looks out onto the outdoor swimming pool. You can also start your day at the Café Gallery, which is described as boasting a French café-inspired style. For lunch, head for the Pool Restaurant, which has both an indoor and an outdoor section, and where meals are served à la carte. There is more choice for eating in the evening. The Rôtisserie puts on an International buffet with a different theme every evening. It occupies a big room with modern furniture and is one of the hotel's more enjoyable restaurants. The Ambrosia and the Castellania are à la carte restaurants that open in the evening. Last but not least, there is the 12Nissia, the hotel's gastronomic restaurant. The chef prepares French cuisine, served à la carte, and prices range from £18.00 to £36.00.
Beach
7.70/10
As is the case with many beaches in Rhodes, Ixia is a public beach. The hotel does provide its own deckchairs and parasols but you'll have to pay extra to use them. The Rodos Palace has an underground passage that runs under the coastal road and leads to the beach. The beach is wide and long and there's plenty of space on which to stretch out. It is mainly covered with pebbles, however the colour of the water is very inviting. The bay is exposed to the wind, meaning it is a paradise for windsurfers. The hotel does not have its own water sports club, but there is one nearby, which you can use for an extra charge.

At the heart of the city of Rhodes, the Semiramis hotel is an unpretentious facility, which provides good value for money. But you have to ignore the lack of comfort and charm.
The Miramare is an upscale hotel with a good reputation in Rhodes, quite appropriate for holiday-makers seeking peace and relaxation in a very comfortable atmosphere. It is particularly suited for a honeymoon stay.
The Nathalie is a small guesthouse located in a residential area of the village of Ixia. As an adorable little family establishment, it reminds you of the golden years of the island's resorts. Run by a Greek-Scottish couple, it is the perfect place for a holiday dedicated to rest and relaxation; there is no beach, nor much in the way of entertainment, but that doesn't matter! The Nathalie is a charming, moderately-sized guesthouse which is highly recommended for couples who are looking for a little intimacy.
Previously known as Sofitel, the Capsis has now abandoned the illustrious name without loosing any of its grandeur. It is a monumental nine-floor building which includes the largest conference centre ever to be seen in a European hotel; an important asset that is likely to inspire holidaying businessmen and women. This fully-equipped establishment is the ideal choice for couples as well as families. However, don't count on doing any activities, as these are practically non-existent...
The 5* Ixian Grand was built in 1978 and underwent a complete makeover in 2007, which makes it hard to believe that it is over 30 years old! The new incarnation is designed to a contemporary, designer template. Just a few feet from the beach, the hotel has few sports facilities and not much in the way of organised entertainment and activities. It is therefore best suited to couples without children, or families passing through.
Relying mainly on its all-inclusive formula, the Mareblue Cosmopolitan is a vast holiday playground. The lawns and sun decks of the hotel are filled with deckchairs and guests can enjoy seaside pleasures all day long. It is difficult to find a quiet, isolated corner in this resort. Open since 1996, this huge structure with its imposing architecture is operational during the summer season, from April to October. The clientele is made up of various different nationalities and includes lots of families.
The Avra Beach is an all-inclusive hotel, so it's easy to spot those staying here by the famous plastic wristbands they wear. The facilities seem pleasant enough, although the communal areas are far too small given that the hotel has a total capacity of 500 people. There are people literally everywhere, so if you're agoraphobic you'd best keep away! Add to this the ridiculous volume of the music played at the poolside and it'll come as no surprise that this isn't the place to stay if you're looking for a quiet spot to relax. The hotel attracts both young people and families but very few couples. Entertainment is put on throughout the day, so if you're after peace and quiet you'd best look elsewhere!
The Olympic Palace has such an imposing architecture that it's hard to pass by it without it catching your eye. It was built towards the end of the 70s, and from the outside it rather looks like a huge space craft. However, be assured that inside, the hotel is much more pleasant and features modern furniture. The clientele is mainly made up of families, most of which come from Europe.

The imposing 4 to 6-storey Electra Palace Resort is rather alarming at first sight, but turns out to be a good place to laze around or let off steam taking part in the numerous activities organised by a well-motivated team. Built in 1974, it was fortunately completely renovated in 2007 and now presents a modern face to the world, just a stone's throw from the Aegean Sea.

Donning the famous bracelet that is provided with the all-inclusive formula, the clientele of the Sentido Mitsis Rodo Maris enjoy a pleasant setting, close to Kiotari beach. This establishment is ideal for families, and has a children's club that welcomes young ones aged 2 and above. The clientele here is essentially European and includes mainly German, Italian and French holidaymakers. It opened in 1976 but looks younger than its years thanks to its good upkeep and the renovation work carried out in 2010. However, the decor is quite disapointing due to its lack of modernity, but the level of comfort is entirely adequate. The hotel is open during the summer season only, from April to October.
