The clue really is in the name with this modern 4-star complex, and, with 376,740 sq ft of grounds and a total of 305 guest rooms and apartments, those who prefer a more intimate ambience had best look elsewhere! If you are travelling as a family though, you and your kids are sure to have a great holiday here. They really have pulled out all the stops to give your children their dream holiday, from family rooms with a games room for kids, to the many fun activities on offer and everything in between.

    Location 3.09 /10

The Sun Beach Resort is located on the north-west side of the island, a 10-minute walk from the village of Ialyssos and a 10-minute drive from Rhodes Town and the airport. The entire bay is lined with many modern hotels, making it a rather upmarket holiday destination, and the hospitality you'll experience here is second-to-none. The gentle breeze of the Meltem blowing in from the sea is also very pleasant and the sea itself provides both a real challenge for sailing enthusiasts and refreshing relief for others, particularly during the summer. The nearby Filerimos Hill, with its ruins of the ancient Acropolis of Ialyssos and the Monastery of Panaghia, dominates the whole regionand offers lovely walks thanks to the varied panoramic views along the coast.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

There are 4 buildings housing 305 guest rooms that come in various categories ranging from standard rooms (87) to suite apartments with 2 bedrooms (6 in total). The latter are sure to be a treat for your little ones! The children's room is more like a games room with beds in it than an actual bedroom! Then there is the traditional adults' bedroom, a small bathroom, and a large balcony. In the more modestly-sized standard rooms you will find a double bed and a single bed, a couple of bedside tables, a glass table and some chairs, a desk, a luggage rack, and another little table. Amenities include central air conditioning, a telephone, a satellite television, cable Internet connection (which incurs an additional charge), a safe (charged at £14 per week), and a small refrigerator, whilst the small bathrooms include a bathtub, a hair dryer, and hospitality products. Unlike the apartments, none of the rooms have a view of the sea; instead, they look out over either the garden or the surrounding land, the buildings being on the other side of the road....

    Overview 8.20 /10

Two parts, two lobbies! The 'family' building has its own traditional marble entrance hall, whilst the buildings housing the standard rooms (on the other side of the road) have a less elegant and well-lit entrance hall, complete with leather sofas, an Internet and video games corner, and a pool table. The main facilities are mostly located in the family part: 3 swimming pools, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a gym, a hair salon, etc. The 'standard rooms' part of the complex also has its own swimming pool (complete with a children's pool) and a tennis court. Moreover, with 2 children's clubs (one where Nordic languages are spoken, the other international), 2 playing fields, a children's cinema, and a games and books library, the children will have their work cut out to get bored here!

    Food and drink 7.45 /10

Of course, with such large numbers of guests, there have to be restaurant facilities onsite, starting with the main restaurant, which is located in the same part of the complex as the standard rooms and can accommodate up to 250 diners. Breakfast and dinner are served here as a buffet of Greek and international dishes and a themed night (Mediterranean, Italian or international) is held here three times a week under the somewhat amused expression of the Greek statue which stands at the centre of the room. If you just want a quick bite to eat at lunchtime though, head to the poolside bar. The 'apart-hotel' part of the complex, however, is home to an a la carte restaurant, the main bar, a beach bar and a poolside bar, and guests, of course, are free to use all the amenities onsite, regardless of which part they are staying in.

    Beach 7.70 /10

If you're staying in a family room, you'll be right at the water's edge. If you're not that fortunate though, you'll still be only 260 ft from the beach, but you will have to cross the road to get there. The beach itself is a black sand and pebble beach, which means that it can be quite tricky to walk around without proper sandals, but plastic loungers and cushions are provided for guests to use. The sea is a little choppy in this part of the island, which is perfect if you like splashing about in the breakers and surf or want to try your hand at water sports. As is the case in many other resorts though, the water sports facilities are separate from the hotel.

    To know

The Sun Beach belongs to the Harmony Resorts group, which owns three other hotels in Greece, all of which, like the Sun Beach, pride themselves on being environmentally-friendly. Steps taken in this respect include waste management, the widespread use of solar energy, the use of gas (over 90%), the appropriate disposal of detergent products, the use of recycled products and regular analyses of seawater. The Sun beach also offers a time-share option whereby guests can buy the right to a room here for a certain period of time every year.

The Pedi Beach, located on the island of Symi which is known for its sponge fishermen, is a small, charming hotel with a quiet, modest and friendly ambiance... far, very far from the club-hotel atmosphere of other facilities in Rhodes. It is ideal for those seeking quiet relaxation in a secluded location.

The green of nature and the blue of the sea offers a pleasant mix for holiday-makers who just want to laze around, or conversely, partake in the various activities on offer. Unfortunately, many of the latter are proposed in German, but then again they do provide the perfect opportunity to take up a foreign language!

When it opened in 2005, the Club Aquatour Ocean Blue consisted of a single building and was known as the Sun Flower. It only became the Ocean Blue when it changed hands in 2006, prior to a series of renovations and, above all, expansions of the site. Although its architecture is a far cry from the blocks of buildings often found on the island, it's not the most charming of constructions either. Having said that, the newer part of the establishment is far more pleasant. The Club Aquatour Ocean Blue attracts a primarily European (mainly French) clientele and is open during the summer season only, from April to October.

Donning the famous bracelet that is provided with the all-inclusive formula, the clientele of the Sentido Mitsis Rodo Maris enjoy a pleasant setting, close to Kiotari beach. This establishment is ideal for families, and has a children's club that welcomes young ones aged 2 and above. The clientele here is essentially European and includes mainly German, Italian and French holidaymakers. It opened in 1976 but looks younger than its years thanks to its good upkeep and the renovation work carried out in 2010. However, the decor is quite disapointing due to its lack of modernity, but the level of comfort is entirely adequate. The hotel is open during the summer season only, from April to October.

The Blue Horizon Palm Beach Club opened in 1986. Thankfully, it was renovated in 2002 when it changed hands. As a result, it resembles many of the other clubs on the island, the only difference being that it has exploited three major assets: the wind, the waves and the F2 Pro Centre, a windsurfing centre which is only found in four other parts of the world. It is therefore the perfect haven for windsurfing enthusiasts!
