This is a comfortable hotel located in the quiet part of the Golden Sands resort. Its hydrotherapy centre, managed by medical staff, has a wide range of treatments and its seaside location is particularly pleasant.

    Location 7.0 /10

The hotel is located in the tourist area of Golden Sands, 17 mi away from Varna airport. A small train shuttle stops by the hotel and takes guests to the centre of the resort in 10 minutes (for a fee). There, you will find shops, bars and restaurants.

    Accommodation 6.95 /10

Of the 509 rooms in the whole complex, only ten are singles and 17 are suites, with the majority of them being, unsurprisingly, standard rooms. Standard being the term which perfectly describes their level of comfort: two single beds set next to each other, an armchair and a desk. As for the bathrooms, they are decent (all rooms have a bathtub) and the amenities in the room are basic and include a direct international telephone line, a satellite television, a minibar and a safe available for a fee from the reception desk.

Most of the rooms are non-smoking. You may find a price difference when reserving, depending on whether you wish to have a view of the sea or not.

    Overview 7.45 /10

This hotel is a member of the Iberostar chain and it is made of two sections: the first one, 'Obzor', was built in 2000 and the second one, 'Izgrev', opened the following year. Some of the facilities are common to both hotels: the restaurant, the spa, the concert hall and the swimming pools. Whichever accommodation (in the 1st or 2nd section) you have chosen, you will have access to the whole complex. On the 6th floor, the panoramic café has a lovely terrace, which is more like a solarium really with all its deckchairs. One of the hotel's major assets is its hydrotherapy centre managed by medical staff where a wide range of treatments are available: massages, cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, chromatherapy, etc. The booths are simple but both the treatments and the staff seem to be efficient. There is an indoor mineral-water pool designed for guests who wish to engage in therapeutic gym, and outside, there is another pool which overlooks the seafront promenade.

    Food and drink 6.95 /10

The huge hotel restaurant, which is located on the second floor, with a capacity of 640 guests, serves national and international cuisine as a buffet meal. Both half and full-board accommodation options are available and themed nights are organised every week, with specialities changing twice a month: Russian, Bulgarian, Italian and Spanish. Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 10:00am, lunch from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, and dinner from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Correct dress code is required in the restaurant (swimming shorts are prohibited). Although large bay windows give a panoramic view of the sea, the restaurant does not, unfortunately, offer much privacy.

    Beach 7.20 /10

The hotel stands on the seafront and the beach is just 33 ft away. You just need to walk across the small pedestrian promenade along the seafront to get to it and it is more or less clean and relatively quiet. You cannot only play volleyball on the beach here, but you can also enjoy watersports activities, such as banana tubing and scuba-diving, etc. (for a fee).

    To know

Half the rooms are non-smoking and most of them have wall-to-wall carpet (only 10% of the bedroom floors consist of terracotta tiles).

The entertainment team is always present on site and organises activities during the day and shows in the evening. A children's club is also available in the hotel.

This hotel in the northern part of the Sables d'Or seaside resort was renovated in 2004, and is perfectly reasonable although not to be recommended to older visitors because of the tricky access to the beach and snack bar.
