This former forestry school, converted into a hotel in 1999, owes its reputation to its 958 sq ft natural grounds and also to its ice hotel, open from January until the end of March. This place offers two types of accommodation, three with the ice hotel, and therefore several types of holiday, all catering for nature-lovers and outdoor activity enthusiasts. All this in comfortable surroundings and with delicious regional cuisine.

    Location 9.82 /10

Located in Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, 45 minutes north of Quebec.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

The hotel has a total of 88 bedrooms housed in the main building and 3 quieter pavilions with 8, 12 and 20 bedrooms. There are also 14 chalets spread through Duchesnay park available to rent and which accommodate 4-10 people.
The rooms at the hotel are spacious and very comfortable with a lounge area complete with sofa and rocking chair and all the facilities you would expect of a 4-star hotel, namely a mini-bar, a coffee maker, a television, an alarm clock and a hair-dryer - essential in winter if you don't want to end up frozen! The classy, contemporary decor combined with comfortable beds and sofas and the view from the large picture window give these rooms a definite charm which you will quickly get used to and in which you will quickly feel at home. The bathrooms have a bathtub and high-quality hospitality products (shampoo, shower gel and cream). Spacious and very pleasant surroundings in which to take a hot bath after grappling with the bitter Quebecois cold.
The rustic, round, wooden pavilions are comfortable but the rooms are half the size. They have a chalet atmosphere with all-wooden decor, green and red tartan bedspread and fabrics and a small desk above which guests can hang photos to make it feel like home. As far as facilities are concerned, these rooms have a television, an alarm clock and a coffee maker. The bathrooms are small and have a shower only. These are proper little cocoons for those who like small spaces. The pavilions also have a spacious living area with a hearth and sofas. This living area will allow you to meet other guests and gives the children an opportunity to play together in a more spacious area than the bedrooms. Ideal for making new friends!

    Overview 7.45 /10

The main building, which houses some of the rooms and activity areas, overlooks Lake St. Joseph, offering a magnificent view in both summer and winter. Whilst everything goes on in this building: restaurant services, sports room, swimming pool, Internet connection, etc. 3 pavilions and outdoor sports areas are also spread around the grounds.
Many activities of all types are available free of charge (except for the spa, snowmobiling and dog sledding). More than 43.5 mi of paths are available for hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing or snowshoe hiking in the winter, allowing visitors to peacefully explore the forest. Ice skating and inflatable ring sledging, which make for great entertainment whatever your age, can also be enjoyed in winter. Kayaking and swimming can be practised on the lake from July onwards (before then the water is too cold!)
All these activities are based at a pavilion that could be referred to as the "house of leisure activities". A pleasant and dynamic team are at the guests' disposal, guiding and advising them on equipment, paths to take and weather conditions. A friendly, family-oriented area housing pool tables, games tables, air hockey, a television room and a children's games room. Upstairs, a cafeteria serves soups and sandwiches until 4pm.
During school holidays children may enrol (whether or not this is included in your package) in the Young Adventurers' Club which offers nature-based excursions. A fun and educational experience.
All these activities are free of charge. For those who like dog sledding and snowmobiling, private partners offers excursions from the hotel, although these activities are payable.
A torchlit hike is organised every Saturday. After a night time walk in the forest, hot chocolate is served around a fire.
Those who just want to relax will find a swimming pool, an outdoor whirlpool and a small weights room on the floor below the restaurant, in the main building.
A spa, which doesn't belong to the hotel, is located just a stone's throw away. Originally-decorated massage rooms will plunge guests into a surreal atmosphere. The pools, small waterfalls and whirlpool baths are conducive to privacy as it is impossible to find yourself in the same pool as people you don't know. This makes bathing all the more pleasant, relaxing and....romantic.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

A dining room, located blow the reception, welcomes guests in a warm yet classy atmosphere. The green tones and wooden decor give it a very pleasant, modern style. The room is heated by a large stone fireplace in front of which guests can enjoy dinner, though it is better to take a table in front of the picture window for breakfast and lunch so you can enjoy the view of the lake. A little bit now on what you will find to eat here. Once again, you will not be disappointed! The famous "Table d'Hôte" menu, consisting of a starter, a soup, a main course and a dessert. The service is excellent, as is the quality of the food.
