On the seaside, 9 miles away from Salalah's city centre. The airport is 12 miles away. Allow 15 minutes for the transfer.
Most of the 147 rooms look out on the sea or the gardens. On the rear, the others overlook the city and the surrounding plateaux. Only upstairs rooms have a balcony. They are spacious (420 square feet), furnished in a contemporary style that offers a refined decoration (light wood furniture, chairs in pastel fabric) and cosy comfort (carpeting, cushions on the bed). The impeccable bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub, a hairdryer, bathrobes, and hospitality products arranged on a display as pens. The remaining equipment includes air conditioning, direct dial telephone for international, satellite TV, a minibar and a safe. A bottle of water is kindly provided free of charge every evening.
The Salalah Hilton Resort was built in 1999. It is a three floor building which stands along the sea in an area still deserted at this time. If the vicinity of the hotel can seem a litte desolate to some, the inside will bring consolation. It offers a neat contemporary style where the lounges display rows of pastel colored chairs and sofas, lamps and pedestal tables with refined foot brass. In the gardens along the beach, there is a middle size lagoon pool (65 feet long). It is equipped with an island of vegetation that adorns the landscape but that is somewhat embarrassing to swim. Nevertheless, children enjoy the water slide installed on the side. A small pool is also planned for youngsters. You can have a relaxation break on treed lawns under large square canvas sunshades, plastic deckchairs, and fabric mattress. Towels are supplied.
Food and drink
The hotel has two restaurants. The first serves buffets in a room with an uncluttered design (white pillars and contemporary furniture) extended by a terrace overlooking the pool. The food is varied and, depending on the evening, the dishes are of Arabic, Asian or European inspiration. From September to June, a barbecue is also held once a week on the lawns in front of the sea. The second restaurant, wich is very stylish, is installed facing the beach. It is housed under a palm roof and entirely covered with wood. There are à la carte mezzes for lunch and dinner there, with a Mediterranean flavored meat, fish with sweet and sour sauce or grilled seafood. Very pleasant, especially at night, under the glow of night-lights, with the sound of waves breaking on the shore.
The Salalah beach is very spacious (9 miles long and 160 feet wide). At one end, it overlooks the city of Salalah (which can hardly be seen) and on the other hand, it overlooks the port (you can clearly see the docks). Relaxation on the beach is not recommended because of the wind that regularily sweeps the sand. This is the reason why the hotel has not installed leisure facilities. However, the beach is quite recommended for jogging or simply for walking in a still wild environment where crabs dig their burrows a few steps from the waves. Those who want to swim in the sea have to be cautious: you must be wary of currents that will sweep you into high seas.
The Salalah Hilton Resort offers a very pleasant stay but choose this hotel if you want to do excursions, and not to simply relax for a week at the seaside.. Indeed, you must have a rental car or take a taxi if you want to have dinner in town. Moreover, the beach, that has been left in a wild state, is not adapted to relaxation. Nevertheless, it is certainly one of the most beautiful in the country.
