The Catharina Paraguaçu has 32 rooms. All rooms have a small terrace (on the ground floor) or small balcony (on the other floors) with a view of the garden. The smaller rooms are in the attic. These attic rooms have an irresistible character. They are fitted out with honey tones furniture and have a very warm atmosphere... unless you can't accept a narrow bathroom! Don't expect a bathtub here: there is only room for a shower. Other amenities include air conditioning (noisy in some rooms), mini-bar, direct telephone, and satellite television. Room service until 9 PM.
Entering the Catharina Paraguaçu is like entering a friends' house. This hotel has the proportion and careful service of a family home. The lobby is small but very welcoming, with a beautiful varnished wood counter and contemporary paintings on the walls. To access the rooms, go through the small very well maintained garden, then climb the stairs (two storeys). Attention: the steps are steep. The hotel has an elevator for people with limited mobility. For entertainment, you will have to satisfy yourself with the murmuring fountains on the patio. However, the Catharina Paraguaçu is very well-located to go to the historic centre. Likewise, the beach is only one street away.
The hotel only serves breakfast, but you will never forget this setting! It is served in a family kitchen, decorated with pottery, rattan chairs, and varnished wood tables. Delicious foods are arranged on a large table counter: cut fruits, rolls, scrambled eggs, sausages, ham, cheese, and various juices. A great way to start the day! If you are hungry during the day, you can order basic dishes from room service (pasta, salads, sandwiches). However, you should discover some of the city restaurants!
The Catharina Paraguaçu is one street away from the beach. The beach includes two sandy coves separated by a rocky spur. The beach is public: no amenities. Don't forget your towel and parasol!
The Catharina Paraguaçu is located in a traditional 19th century house. It opened in 1993 and was renovated in 1999 and in 2005. Its small size (32 rooms) and refined atmosphere make it an ideal address for couples. Families are welcome, too, because the hotel has two rooms for 4 persons, and three suites with kitchenette. Be aware, however, of the fact that there are no special amenities for children (no mini-club, no playroom).
Located in the city centre, on a noisy street, this hotel is not a quiet place. Air conditioning is noisy also. This is the hotel's drawback.
