    This establishment is housed in a superb colonial building that is found in the city centre at 24 rua Direita de Santo Antonio, which is but a stone's throw from the Unesco-listed historical centre, Pelourinho. The airport is 17 mi away and the journey takes 40 minutes by taxi.

    The district of Santo Antonio is a real haven of peace and quiet in the historical centre. Therefore, you can easily get to the thick of the action at the frequent street parties organised in Pelourinho, which is less than a 5 minute walk away, but also escape it all when you return to the tranquillity of the pousada's neighbourhood to recharge your batteries.

    The rooms are bursting with charm, with their brick walls, wooden furniture, and 2 pretty paintings. Quite spacious, they are equipped with a sofa bed that can sleep 2 people. They also have a large terrace with a round wooden table and 2 chairs, and a superb view of Bahia de Todos os Santos bay. The facilities in all the rooms include satellite television, air conditioning, a small electronic code safe (free), a mini bar fridge, a telephone, and free Wifi Internet access. In the bathroom there is a fixed shower head, a toilet, a large mirror, and 2 bars of soap.

    A superb colonial house with a yellow and red facade, the Pousada do Pilar is comprised of 6 storeys with lift access. Opened in 2005, it houses 12 rooms as well as a panoramic terrace with superb views of Bahia de Todos os Santos bay.

    Food and drink 7.45 /10

    Breakfast is the only meal provided and it is served on the panoramic terrace overlooking Bahia de Todos os Santos bay from 7:30am to 10:30am. However, there is no shortage of options in the neighbourhood when it comes to lunch and dinner, and especially for tasting the local Moqueca! You can also enjoy a caipirinha at the Pousada at any time of day: just ask! Coffee is free at reception.

    As the Pousada do Pilar is located in the upper town, it is only a few minutes walk from the Pelourinho (historic centre). It is perfect for visiting the numerous baroque churches, which are Salvador's pride and joy, as well as walking in the streets lined with colourful houses and buying unusual souvenirs in the small craft shops (embroideries, basketworks, sculptures). To reach the lower town, there is a 70m elevator that drops you off a few steps from the marina and Mercado Modelo (the best known traditional market in Salvador). The beaches, however, are a 10 minute drive away. They border the southeastern part of the town starting from Farol da Barra. A computer is available free of charge for surfing the Internet and, if you have brought your laptop, you can make the most of the free Wifi in the guest rooms. The Pousada do Pilar closes annually in May.
