Amy Adejokun Section editor

The Neige et Roc is a very nice medium-sized hotel with a friendly atmosphere, thoroughly deserving of its 3 stars. The excellent food compensates for the somewhat aged decor of the rooms. However, if these were renovated, the hotel could be a contender for a fourth star.

    Location 8.81 /10

Situated a little outside the village, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of SamoŽns. It is also about a 10 minute walk or 3 minutes by car to get to the ski slopes, or alternatively you can take the shuttle bus which stops two minutes from the hotel.

    Accommodation 6.95 /10

The 32 rooms have many positive aspects and offer undeniable comfort but some decorative elements could be altered. On the plus side, the alpine atmosphere is evident throughout and they all have a balcony. All of the amenities you would expect of a 3 star hotel are provided (hair-dryer, flat-screen television, etc.). On the negative side, the floral curtains are definitely not to everyone's taste, and as for the carpet, it is definitely past its prime! Although some guests will be delighted to find a bathtub in the bathrooms, others will not appreciate the absence of a shower curtain.
Renovations have commenced in the bathrooms of the studios and, considering the quality and style of the materials chosen, it looks likely that the result will be modern and comfortable. We hope that the bathrooms in the regular rooms will also be renovated without delay.
There are 18 studios in total which are ideal for families or group of friends who wish to manage their budget by preparing meals in the kitchen area, which even has a small dishwasher (a hard-to-go-without luxury after a day of skiing). Large families can book communicating studios that offer more privacy for both adults and children.

    Overview 7.45 /10

The hotel consists of a large, timber-clad chalet where the guest rooms are located and another building with 18 studios. With the exception of a ski storage room in both buildings, all of the public areas are in the main hotel and in this regard, customers are spoilt for choice. An average-sized swimming pool includes a Jacuzzi area, a system for swimming against a current, massage jets, a waterfall, and, best of all, a waterslide! All of this is bathed in sunlight coming in through the large bay window that can be opened once the good weather arrives. For those who prefer more privacy, a relaxation space has also been installed. With fake grass, Jacuzzis, a sauna, and a steam room, this place is perfect for relaxing. More motivated guests can try out the exercise bike beside the Jacuzzi while others can book a massage with the osteopath. While parents relax, children can have fun in the adjacent room where there they will find a pinball machine as well as ping-pong and foosball tables (for a fee).
However, the best place to relax is on the sofa by the fireplace in the lounge. The bar is located in this friendly and cosy space where the atmosphere is good from the time the guests return from the slopes until late into the night. Less used and less cosy are two rooms opposite reception, to the left of the entrance, ideal for teenagers who want to try out all the board games and spend time together away from their parents. Finally, still with younger guests in mind, there is a television room with a DVD player and large 1970s-style armchairs which are ideal for lounging in.

    Food and drink 8.95 /10

The restaurant is the real strong point of the hotel. The dining room is pleasant and follows the same alpine theme present throughout the hotel. However, what really matters is the food and, in this regard, even the most demanding of customers will be satisfied. A generous breakfast is served as a buffet: guests looking for a hearty breakfast can cook eggs in the pan provided and accompany them with local cheeses and cold meats while those preferring a more simple breakfast can sample the pastries and homemade jams while sipping on some good coffee.
In the evening, the menu makes your mouth water and the food is delicious. Guests on the half-board formula (£31) are entitled to a soup, a selection of hors d'oeuvres (seafood, meats, carpaccio etc.), a plate of 13 cheeses, a dessert, and a main course with meat or fish, depending on the day. However, you cannot leave without tasting the menu at £48 which includes dishes that are worthy of some of the best restaurants. No doubt about it, this is an excellent restaurant!

    To know

A fondue savoyarde or bourguignonne is organised once a week during high season. A band entertains guests during dinner and there is often dancing after the meal. It is a great way to meet new people in a friendly atmosphere.
The resident masseuse-osteopath is in high demand so you should book a session in advance.
