    Location 3.0 /10

The Petra Segreta Resort is located in San Pantaleo and has the advantage of being set in a rural location but close to urban life. Arzachena is 10 minutes away by car; Porto Cervo 15 minutes, and Porto Rotondo and Olbia airport are both 30 minutes away.

    Accommodation 9.20 /10

There are only about fifteen rooms in total and they are spread throughout little cottages scattered over the whole complex. One important detail is that the hotel's rural position in the heart of nature, with surrounding pine and olive trees and blocks of granite dotted about, is protected by the wind. The result is absolute silence and relaxation - brilliant. The cottage designs draw on traditional Sardinian architecture and all the room categories offer the highest level of comfort. Their cool, neutral colours positively highlight the old wooden furniture. The bed linen is impeccable, the bedding is very comfortable and the bathrooms are just as pleasant, with their bathtub, hospitality products and bath towels. We liked the aqua green tiling on the walls, the stone floors, and the homely feel of the natural raw materials. The rooms are provided with everything you could wish for: a plasma screen television, a direct telephone line, a minibar and a safe. Thanks to their natural materials and simple, refined decor, the rooms are pleasant places to pass the time. Basically, it is impossible to resist the charm of the place. Last, but not least, the thick granite walls mean that the rooms are always nice and fresh, which is a very pleasant feature in the heat of the summer.

    Overview 9.20 /10

The Petra Segreta Resort is a brand new hotel that opened in 2008 on a 5-acre property. The exceptional location of this granite building in the middle of the Sardinian countryside makes it one-of-a-kind. Although the hotel only opened a little over a year ago, it gives the impression of having always been there and by the time you arrive you feel well and truly cut off from the rest of the world and relieved to be far from the noise and stress of city life. The hotel is quite out of the ordinary, offering both charm and privacy. Its fifteen-or-so rooms are nestled so secretively in the mountainous setting you could be forgiven for not even realising that they are there. The small team of staff has a great eye for detail and strives to offer a personalised service. The authentic stone architecture blends perfectly with the 12 acres of natural surroundings. Majestic mountains and the luxuriant vegetation of pine and olive trees stretch away into the distance. The sea can also just about be glimpsed in the distance. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the interior designer has done a great job in decorating them with taste and sophistication, which can also be found throughout the hotel. Tradition is represented by the blocks of granite, which are typical of the region, while visual relief is provided by the refined decor which adds a contemporary dimension. The end result is a harmonious setting which is perfect for recharging your batteries as you plan trips out into the Sardinian countryside with nothing to hold you back.

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

The Petra Segreta Resort has a single restaurant that is open from 7:30 am to 10:00 am for breakfast and 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm for dinner. The former is served as a buffet in the main room and consists of an excellent and substantial selection of fresh and local products, including cereals, fresh fruit juice, and fruit; everything you need for a proper breakfast, which can be enjoyed out on the restaurant terrace while you admire the panoramic view over the Golfo Aranci. You will never tire of the sight of the mountains and the sea. As usual, you barely notice the other guests here. You have the feeling of 'escape' almost, as you let the scale of the surroundings wash over you. Come nightfall, dinner is served on the terrace under soft lighting. The chef, who is also the owner of the property, prepares a series of his own concoctions which are, unsurprisingly, typically Italian. He likes to innovate, and his cuisine reflects this, combining traditional ideas with more modern flavours, which he tries, tastes and tweaks until he is happy with the result. Ultimately, the originality is more impressive than the quality of the cuisine, which is reasonable but unfortunately not fantastic. The strong point, apart from the setting, is the fact that the menus change daily, offering several choices and even more in the summer. For dinner, as for breakfast, the products are fresh and of good quality.

    To know

The Petra Segreta Resort is located in the countryside at San Pantaleo. It is reached along a winding track, which makes access rather tricky, but at the same time you will not want to rush past the beauty of the landscape, which is really something to behold. Hiring a car here is absolutely essential in order to get around and explore Sardinia.

The hotel is open from April to mid-November.

The Petra Segreta Resort is not really aimed at families; indeed, if anything the opposite is true. There are no young children in the hotel, no facilities are provided for younger guests and the place is very peaceful. It is, on the other hand, perfect for couples to spend their holiday, or even their honeymoon...

Most of the guests are English and German.
