This is the 'place to be' for those who like trendy hotels! Located in one of the most fashionable spots on the island, the Anantara Seminyak is very popular with hip travellers. Although this concrete low-rise building is somewhat of a blot on the landscape, the hotel stands right on the beachfront and benefits from the reliable know-how of the Anantara Group: contemporary architecture, a relaxing atmosphere and upscale facilities. Its rooftop terrace is a very popular spot for watching the sunset and for partying (DJ's play here regularly). In addition to being very popular with honeymooners, the Anantara Seminyak also warmly welcomes families.

    Location 7.33 /10

In Seminyak, north of Kuta, just past Legian. It has been one of the trendiest places in Bali for a few years now. Kuta is the haunt of backpackers while most of the tourists in Seminyak are more fashionable and bourgeois, spending their time in vegetarian restaurants, designer fashion shops and beachfront club lounges (Kudeta). The hotel stands in the first line of hotels and affords direct access to the beach - it's hard to top that! It takes around 30 minutes to reach the airport from the hotel, traffic can make the journey longer. Likewise, it will take 2h to drive to Ubud when the traffic is bad, or 1h 15m at quieter times of the day. Finally, Tanah Lot and its temple, which stands on a rock formation in the middle of the sea, takes 45 minutes to reach.

    Accommodation 9.20 /10

The hotel has a total of 60 guest rooms (59+1 penthouse) and offers several different categories (Penthouse, Ocean Suite, Pool Suite, etc.), all of them suites. You'll be pleased to know that the Anantara keeps its promise of 'spacious guest rooms' (the smallest ones measuring 80m▓) and that they are all very lovely. The elegant decor is modern and exudes a feeling of comfort. The sofas are very comfortable, the layout of the room is contemporary (a part-glass wall conceals the shower), and the floors are covered with both parquet and marble. They also include a beautiful walk-in closet with large wooden cupboards. The very spacious bathroom is equipped with two wash basins (with several soaps to choose from), a bathtub and a separate (tropical) shower. The only negative point was the bars on the balconies of some rooms, which we found slightly prison-like. Nevertheless, all of the terraces are equipped with a jacuzzi that can fit up to 2 people at a time. The establishment also shows its fun side in the rooms, providing guests with board games (like Jenga), sketchbooks, DVD box sets, etc. With regard to the amenities, you'll have everything you need: a large flat-screen television, an iPod docking station, B÷se speakers, a Nespresso coffee machine, a DVD player, individual air-conditioning, etc. The atmosphere in the guest rooms is so warm and comfortable that you won't want to leave them. And with room service being available 24/7, you won't actually have to! As for the view, most of them look out over the sea while the rest have a view of the small swimming pool in the interior courtyard (not very interesting).

    Overview 8.45 /10

Opened in 2008, the hotel as a whole is very pleasant. Although the hotel stands on a rather narrow strip of land, management has made optimal use of the space and the modern architecture goes some way to helping you (slightly) forget that this is a 'four-storey concrete low-rise building' on the seafront. Manned by a very friendly staff, the hotel is entirely open-plan. The reception area, the bar's terrace and a number of relaxing lounge areas are all found on the ground floor. The terrace on the seafront is edged by the hotel's beautiful, infinity edge swimming pool. Just below is an area of lawn shaded by palm trees where guests can sunbathe on comfortable deckchairs topped with cushions. The facilities include a very pleasant and well-equipped little gym, located at a height and overlooking the vegetation below. The spa, just beside it, is small but has some lovely treatment rooms (treatments include massages, manicures, pedicures, etc.) that are bathed in natural light, a welcome change from the spas usually located underground and often very dim. For those who are interested, bikes can be rented for free from the hotel.

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

The Anantara hotels really know how to highlight the rooftops of their hotels. Just as we were completely impressed by the establishment in Uluwatu, the SOS Super Club on the rooftop here follows in the same vein. The view from this partly covered terrace with semi-exposed beams is superb. Long and wide, it is furnished with comfortable sofas and cushions. It is a very popular place with tourists for watching the sunset and DJs regularly come to mix their tunes here. With regard to the cuisine, the menu emphasises meat with a wide choice of steaks (tenderloin, NY strip loin, rib-eye, T-bone, etc.) and cooking options. There are also numerous fish dishes (salmon fillet with risotto) and some varied starters (salmon tartare, escargot with mushrooms, etc.). Something we found incredibly "chic": you can choose which type of salt you want. There is also a fabulous, if pricey, selection of wines here. For those who like Thai cuisine and lighter options, head for the Wild Orchid buffet at lunchtime (only). As for breakfast, this includes a wide range of fresh products, pastries and a few local hot dishes. As a whole, it is rather basic.
