The Alliey & Spa is a charming village hotel that appeals to aficionados of fine food who wish to combine their stay in the mountains with a good bit of pampering. However, the different levels of luxury between the guest rooms and the rest of the facilities might not live up to everyone's expectations.

Location

The hotel is at the heart of the village of Le Monêtier-les-Bains, close to a pub and a stone's throw from the baths. However, the ski lifts are a short walk away, unless you prefer to take the bus that passes a few metres away from the hotel.
Accommodation
6.45/10
The 3 categories of guest rooms offer different levels of luxury. The (7) best rooms, called the '3 hearts', are located in the main building and can be accessed via a rather steep staircase. They have a bathroom that opens onto the bedroom, which itself has two single beds pushed together. A genuine double bed would have been nicer! Unlike the other guest rooms, these also have a small television and a hair-dryer. The '2 hearts' rooms are in a totally separate building and are quite basic, both in terms of their decor and facilities. However, they are perfect for families, as they are bigger and in some cases have separate rooms for children and parents. They also offer an old-school kind of charm insofar as no two rooms look alike. You will have to negotiate the stairs to get to your room in this 2 storey building. Finally, above the spa, the hotel rents out 15 apartments providing accommodation for between 2 and 6 guests. They are well equipped and attractively decorated, but it is a pity that not all of them have a balcony. The duplex apartments on the top floor are without a shadow of doubt the brightest and most pleasant units.
Overview
6.95/10
This hotel is a complex consisting of several buildings at the heart of the village of Le Monêtier-les-Bains. The charming old 3 storey main building is where the '3 hearts' rooms are located, along with the 2-level restaurant and reception. Behind this old building are 2 others, one with the '2 hearts' rooms, the other with the spa and swimming pool, along with the apartments on the upper floors. The spa is one of the best things about the hotel and welcomes guests into a very pleasant, colourful, and modern setting. The little indoor swimming pool includes water jets to massage your back, which is lovely after a day of skiing. Deckchairs are set up around the pool and there is even a hammam, which is perfect to prevent aches from setting in. Through the big picture window you can see the much larger outdoor pool, which is heated to 26°C, making it pleasant both in summer and winter. The treatment and relaxation rooms are in a peaceful setting a little further up. The space is tastefully designed, and bright colours have been used to emphasise the Zen feeling of the place.
Food and drink
9.20/10
The hotel's restaurant has a good reputation in the valley for its fine, original cuisine and affordable prices. Don't miss the White Menu, which is unique to the area and which was created by a group of restaurants as part of the 'Culture des Neiges' winter event. We'll let you discover it on your own... Some of the dishes here would not be out of place in a gourmet restaurant. Every evening, rather than organising the meal around a theme, as many club hotels do, the restaurant focuses its efforts on preparing meat dishes cooked to perfection. There is also an extensive wine list, and the manager, who chooses the selection himself, will help you decide what to drink with your meal. Although dinner is served in a charming ground floor dining room decorated with untreated wood and some modern touches, breakfast is taken on the first floor, in a homely room where large white cushions are arranged on wooden benches and original lamps give the place a real sense of style. The buffet is a rather simple spread and we would have liked to see fresh orange juice rather than the carton variety. Next to this room is a small room with a television reserved for children. This means adults can enjoy their meal in peace and quiet and children will not have to sit for hours at the table, getting bored. The restaurant is closed for lunch.

Neither a hotel nor a residence, the management hasn't quite made up its mind about this former Best Western establishment. One thing's for sure, its apartments are brand new and fully-equipped. The only snag is that the hotel overlooks a car park.

The Boule de Neige is a charming little 10 room hotel located in an old building, and is perfect for couples and small families. It has the advantage of offering peace and quiet in a location close to the slopes and organised activities. It is a pity that more than half of the rooms are north-facing and that they are so small.

This hotel is only open during the winter, and although pleasant, it does lack charm. Despite the original Mediterranean style and a full range of facilities including a well-being space, there is a sense that something is missing, maybe a real breakfast room or a genuine spa, or perhaps harmony in the decor and ambience.
