This was undoubtedly once a very grand establishment. Today, however, it is an unpretentious little place, tucked away at the heart of a very pleasant square in Seville, just a few minutes' walk from the city centre. If you're a fan of the 70s, it's safe to say that you are sure to be won over by the interior architecture. As for the rooms, you can expect space here, and lots of it.

    Location 6.53 /10

The Gran Hotel Lar stands in Plaza Santa Carmen square, around a 15 minute walk from the cathedral and just over 6 mi from the airport, with a transfer time of 15 minutes by car. There is also a church and a supermarket in the same square.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

The Gran Hotel Lar has a total of 137 guest rooms, including 6 on each floor, that overlook the square and have a balcony, rather small but nevertheless serving its purpose. The decor in the rooms consists of green carpeting (the same as you'll find in the corridors), white walls, and olde-worlde furniture that notably includes a greenish armchair, a wooden desk, a minibar, and a headboard in the same colour. You'll find an additional bedspread in the wardrobe should you need it. A safe is provided but there is a charge for using it, and the television could be a little bigger. All of the rooms also come with a trouser press and a sewing kit. If you're looking for something more spacious, go for one of the suites, which come with a separate lounge area, tea and coffee-making facilities, and even a dressing room. The bathrooms, meanwhile, are decked out in blue and white azulejo tiles depicting birds and come with dryers, a selection of hospitality products, and pairs of slippers, though it has to be said that the lighting in here is not the most pleasant.

    Overview 6.70 /10

The Gran Hotel Lar occupies a 6 storey brown and white building built in 1973, as reflected in its decor that (typical of that time), starting with the façade. On arrival in the lobby you'll find yourself in an area done out entirely in black and white marble, with a showcase displaying Christian Kiel watches and a huge aquarium adorning the wall just next to it. One of the lounge areas is furnished with large leather armchairs and brass-footed lamps with clear shades, not to mention a Gobelin depicting a romantic countryside landscape on one wall. There is also a large marble staircase opposite the lifts with a leather and wood handrail leading to the upper floors. Other facilities at the hotel include two computers with an Internet connection and a printer, as well as a cafeteria in front of the reception desk that is open all day long. The decor in this part of the hotel clearly takes its inspiration from the 70s and you'll immediately notice the central pillar topped with a circle in the ceiling indirectly allowing natural light into the room.

    Food and drink 6.20 /10

Breakfast at the Gran Hotel Lar is served as a buffet every morning in a first-floor room that can accommodate up to 200 guests. The meal includes a selection of cold cuts, Viennese pastries, yogurts, and the usual coffee, tea, bread, and fruit juices. The room, which overlooks an inner courtyard, has a pink floor and houses a series of columns surrounded by mirrors and 70s-style chairs in a combination of velvet and wood. There is even a painting depicting the city adorning the far wall. Guests also have the option of dining in this room, with the menu consisting primarily of local cuisine.

    To know

The entrance to the hotel is announced by a sign featuring Art Deco-style letters. The word 'Lar' means country house or farm in Galician.

Undoubtedly one of the biggest assets of the Sevilla Center hotel resides in the views it offers. From the top of this 14 storey building, you can admire the entire city: the old town, the modern section, and Maria Luisa park. We recommend you dine at the restaurant one evening, in order to admire the Giralda in a different light. This 4 star establishment provides comfortable accommodation. Plus, it has a swimming pool on the 3rd floor, a gym in the basement, a jacuzzi, and has direct access to the neighbouring public car park. The terrace is open in summer, from June to September, and features two different ambiances: a Zen section and a restaurant that prepares barbecues.

This charming boutique hotel stands in the Judería district and is British-owned. Its 6 guest rooms are all different and it's clear that a great deal of time and effort was been put into the renovation of this former private residence, which dates back to the 17th century. If you're not very familiar with the city, the staff here will be happy to offer up countless options and ideas when it comes to getting out and exploring the more authentic side of the city. Music-lovers, too, will be delighted to find that the rooms come with their own musical instruments, along with musical programmes specially designed for guests at the Corral del Rey. The bar, meanwhile, also serves as an exhibition space for various painters and photographers throughout the year.
