    Location 3.0 /10

The hotel is located on Canalejas street, between Armas Square shopping centre and the arena of the 'Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza', in the city centre, close to Isabel II Bridge, which crosses the Guadalquivir River enabling you to get to the working-class district of Triana. Don Pablo international airport is located 8 mi away, so allow 20 minutes for transfers.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

The Melia Colon has very comfortable guest rooms with an ultra-stylish design exemplified by the black carpeted floors. The curtains open up automatically when you walk into the room, thanks to a sensor system. These spacious rooms (28m²) are equipped with everything you will need: a wide plasma screen satellite television (30 channels), very quiet individual air conditioning, an ironing board and an iron, a well stocked bar fridge with tea and coffee-making facilities, a telephone with a direct line, Wifi and ADSL internet access available for a fee, and a free electronic safe with a code (with enough room to fit a laptop in it). All the furniture is stylish and original, from the king size bed to the round coffee table to the desk. There is no balcony but large bay windows enable guests to admire beautiful views, especially from the upper floors of the hotel.
Separated from the bedrooms by a glass partition, the marble bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub with a flexible shower head in addition to a fixed tropical shower, a separate toilet with a bidet and a telephone, a hair dryer (concealed in a drawer), a double wash basin, bathrobes, slippers, Clarins hospitality products, tissues, and a magnifying mirror. You will be able to watch television from your bathtub through the glass partition, and there are even speakers in the bathroom so you can hear the sound! Room service is available 24 hours a day. The suites have a Nespresso coffee machine and a large panoramic terrace with a whirlpool bath and a superb panoramic view of the city rooftops.

    Overview 8.70 /10

A member of the Spanish hotel group Sol Melia, the Melia Colon has a total of 189 rooms spread over 7 floors in a historical building with 2 lifts. Each floor is dedicated to a Spanish painter, with the 7th and top floor dedicated to Goya. Inaugurated in 1929 to mark the occasion of the Ibero-American Exhibition, the ex-Majestic Hotel has retained a gem of a feature from that era: the original dome with its splendid chandelier. The hotel was renovated in 2009.
On arrival, you will be struck by the rather kitsch decoration of the lobby, with its bright red and ultra-contemporary central sofa suite, which branches out in all directions like an octopus's tentacles. Be warned though, the chairs are so comfortable you may well find yourself dropping off to sleep! In the lobby lounge, there is an impressive statue of a horse topped with a lamp. Next to this is the bar, which is open from 11:00am to 1:00am and has a giant screen divided into 9 sections! It is an elegant and stylish setting for a drink or a game of chess. You can also follow major sporting events on the giant plasma screen television in the library lounge, with its bull-fighting themed decor. This space doubles as a cigar cellar and smoking room.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

The main restaurant, Majestic, was thus named after the hotel's former name. Located near to the lobby, it is a beautiful restaurant hall decorated with columns, where breakfast is served from 7:30 am to 11:00 am, lunch from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm and dinner from 8:00 pm to 11:30 pm. Mediterranean cuisine is prepared by an Andalusian chef. There is a second restaurant in the basement, the 'Burladero tapas y tintos' (wines) by Dani Garcia (a famous chef awarded two stars by the Michelin guide), in a typical setting with legs of ham hanging from the ceiling.

    To know

The Melia Colon hotel is one Seville's two palaces, the other one being the mythical Alphonso XIII. It is characterised by an avant-garde style which blends ancient inspiration (statues and columns) with objects at the height of modern design by Philippe Starck, Marcel Wanders and Edra. The hotel is situated in close proximity to the Isla Magica (Magic Island) amusement park that was built around the concept of the discovery of the New World. This amusement park is located on Isla de La Cartuja (Island of the Charterhouse) that hosted the 1992 Universal Exhibition and it is also the location of the Andalusian Centre of Modern Art. Located on the 7th and top floor, the spa has two treatment and massage rooms, a hammam and a panoramic solarium terrace with an outdoor whirlpool bath, offering a superb view of the city roofs.

    Accommodation tip:

Opt for a room on the seventh and top floor if you can, for the view.

The AC Ciudad de Sevilla boasts an impressive combination of styles. Behind its traditional old façade (one of the guest rooms actually incorporates the original tower) it conceals modern decor featuring subdued shades of colour. There is no denying it: the overall effect is very appealing. In spite of its modest size, the gym is very well lit. The hotel also has a small outdoor swimming pool. Its 86 guest rooms are practical, although some of the standard rooms have views out onto a wall... It is also worth bearing in mind that you can connect to the internet in the cafe. The restaurant, La Mejorana, serves set menus each day for lunch and dinner.

The Zenit hotel is one of the few establishments located in the Triana neighbourhood, just metres from Isabel II Bridge and Seville's nightlife. It's not easy finding the entrance, as it is hidden at the far end of a courtyard beside the car park. The hotel has opted for a purely Andalusian style and, as a result, the furniture is old but has been restored and the decor in general is quite classic. You will notice the handmade azulejos (tiling) present throughout the establishment. The reception lounges are quite spacious and offer Wi-Fi access. Another asset of this address is its 50-space car park. As far as the cuisine goes, it is comprised of a wide selection of Spanish specialties.

The Meliá Sevilla has a number of things going for it, including its central geographical location next to Plaza de España, a huge swimming pool and comfortable guest rooms. If you like big, open spaces, you will certainly feel at home in the vast lounges next to the reception. All kinds of treatments are on offer in the spa, which has six treatment rooms (including one for couples), as well as a water circuit with a jacuzzi, chromatic showers and a hammam. VIP guests, meanwhile, are made to feel special with their own private area for checking in, which includes a reading room with free Wi-Fi access, as well as breakfast and a mid-afternoon snack. The only criticism is that the Meliá Sevilla's façade could do with a good lick of paint.

Like many other establishments located in the Nervion district, this NH hotel attracts a primarily business clientele. It has 252 rooms and can accommodate up to 500 guests at a time. On the first floor, you'll most definitely be attracted by the spa, which occupies a cube-shaped structure surrounded by bay windows. The treatments on offer are really tempting. You can choose from a selection of chocolate, cava, silk, or black grape-based treatments. The hotel's restaurant is another of its strong points. Run by Ferrán Adriá, creative cuisine is served here in a designer and modern setting, which includes a bookshelf set in the middle of the dining room. If you choose to stay here, you should know that the centre of Seville is a 15-minute bus ride away.

It stands out for its services, such as the selection of pillows, and the level of comfort in the rooms. Furthermore, the breakfast buffet offers a wide range of options, which include fruit juice, pastries, cold cuts and so on... it even has a separate area for children. Every morning, show cooking is also on offer. The only downside is the distance to the city centre for those who want to visit the old town. However, there is a bus that can take you there directly, and the stop is right next to the hotel.
