    Location 3.0 /10

Located in the Nabq region, the hotel is a little far from the centre of Naama Bay (25 minutes by car). Expect around a 10 minute car journey to reach the airport. The cab ride from the airport shouldn't set you back more than 8.5, but add a pound or two if you're coming in from the centre. In any case, don't hesitate to haggle...

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

The 440 guest rooms (including 50 that were built more recently) are equipped with a mini bar (2 courtesy bottles of water provided daily), a safe, satellite TV (30 channels), air conditioning, and amenities such as a tea and coffee tray, and 24/7 room service. The Internet connection costs 3 per hour (a wireless connection available throughout the hotel and even on the beach). The bathroom does not include a bidet but it is quite spacious.

    Overview 7.45 /10

The hotel welcomes its guest in a rather overdone setting, which becomes overwhelming in the entrance hall: a dome ceiling and columns around a shiny marble-clad central area, with a few wicker chairs and coffee tables. The interior of the complex can be seen through the rear bay window, as well as the swimming pool and light grey units housing the rooms.

The establishment has been organised in a manner to make everyone happy: music and entertainment for the younger guests till 5:00pm, after which the stage is lit in the theatre for small after-dinner shows for an international audience. The night ends at the strangely well-lit nightclub with its roaring music; open from 11:00pm till 2:00am, and an outdoor section. The area reserved for children is well equipped. It includes a shallow swimming pool with easy access and games for children of all ages. The hotel has made a point of not forgetting its younger guests. The mini-club is open daily for children aged 4 -12. For your business meetings, the Regency also includes a conference room with a capacity of approximately 200: unfortunately, the carpeting and an imposing lamppost make the poorly lit room all the more stuffy.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

Despite missing an "m", the Camello restaurant is friendly enough: located in front of the nightclub, its decor focuses on a number of purple and green armchairs. Breakfast and lunch are served for anything between 70 and 140 Egyptian pounds (from 8.70? to 17.40?) This is one of the 2 la carte restaurants at the establishment. The main restaurant, the "Floret" also boasts nice interior decorating: spacious and well organised, it is open 3 times daily and offers a buffet service.

    Beach 8.20 /10

In front of this 5 star establishment there is a sprawling Caribbean-style beach: a nice stretch of fine sand harmoniously dotted with thatched sunshades in front of a deep blue sea. It's love at first sight! The beach towel rental service has a slight drawback: all of the towels must be returned at nightfall, which is a little early for those who prefer to enjoy the beach in the evening and avoid the daytime bustle. However, the rules about this are quite strict in all of Sharm's establishments, so you're better off enjoying the beach in the morning if you can.

The strong points here are the facilities on offer (deckchairs and sunshades), the presence of fine sand, the absence of pebbles and rocks, and the sea that stretches out in the distance without getting deeper: you can wade out into the ankle-deep sea for at least 5 minutes. It's probably not the best place to go diving but it is the perfect place for families with young children.

    To know

It boasts the look and level of service that have earned the Regency Plaza its 5 stars. The hotel was inaugurated in 2006 and is well preserved. The rooms that afford the nicest sea view are those facing Tiran Island, a stone's throw from the beach. During the time of our stay, a unit including some fifty rooms was being built. Its opening was scheduled for the end of summer 2009.

The Sunrise Island Garden is a small basic resort with three connecting pools and slides. It does not have direct beach access. The staff are however friendly and there are quiet desert-facing rooms available.

More of a hotel than a resort, the Sofitel Sharm el Sheikh is definitely in our top 5 in the area. The standard here is superior to that of most resorts in Sharm el Sheikh. The atmosphere is calm and ideal for couples or guests looking for peace and quiet. The highlight of the hotel is its Horizon Bar which overlooks Naama Bay and its equestrian centre. The Sofitel may be one of the oldest hotels in Sharm el Sheikh, but the other resorts have a lot to learn from this establishment.

It is true to say that the Coral Hills is by no means one of the top hotels in Sharm el Sheikh, however there is something immensely likeable about the place. It may be the intimacy of the place; it could be the small touches likes the swan towel sculptures on the beds or maybe even the enthusiasm of the staff. Whatever it is, easyvoyage.co.uk would recommend this small hotel for those looking for a quieter getaway mixed in with activities down at the beach.

This gargantuan complex is quite simply in a class of its own. You can take any aspect of the hotel, its rooms, its spa, its eateries, its views or its staff and you'll find everything is top draw. If it is top of the range you are after for in Sharm then you can't go far wrong in choosing the Royal Oasis, perfect for couples and families looking for the very best in service and facilities in a setting to die for.

Part of the Spanish hotel chain, Sol Melia, the Sol Cyrene is great for guests wishing to spend maximal amounts of time outdoors. The pool and the beach areas are pleasant although the interior of the hotel isn't very inspiring. The hotel feels secluded which is a good quality to have in the area. The beach is one of the best we have seen in Sharm although it can get a little crowded.

The Tropicana Azure Club, not to be confused with the Tropicana Grand Azure just across the road, is not on the beach but does have a very pleasant pool area planted with palm trees. The pool itself is large, so a good choice for guests with children who are after a little sunbathing with peace of mind. The rooms are of a good standard but the food may leave some guests disappointed.

The Jaz Belvedere Hotel is easily one of Sharm el Sheikh best quality resorts. With its beautiful interiors and very well maintained exteriors, the Belvedere is more of a hotel than a resort. Directly on the beach, the hotel is small enough to retain intimacy and large enough not to feel claustrophobic after a week. The Belvedere is definitely one of our favourites.

An all-round good quality hotel compared to most hotels in Sharm el Sheikh. The extension of the Hilton Shark's Bay is neat and well maintained and is separate from the original part of the resort. There is also nothing Egyptian about the place; one could be anywhere in the world. This part of the hotel lacks in atmosphere but is relaxing and guests are guaranteed a fairly good quality room.

The Oriental Rivoli is without doubt one of the classiest hotels in Sharm el Sheikh. Its sumptuous decoration must be the finest in the resort and all of its services exude quality, from its staff to its food. Best suited for couples or groups of friends, due to its lack of animation or a kids club, it is the perfect place for relaxation, reflection and rejuvenation. Recommended whole-heartedly by Easyvoyage!
