The French President, Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife have often stayed at the Sofitel which also welcomes sheikhs and business men from all over the world in its villas hidden away from the rest of the hotel.
The hotel is built on several levels which means there is a fair number of stairs. There are two lifts to help accelerate the journey between the pool and the rooms. The beach is split into three bays which is great for guests wanting some intimacy. The first bay (to the left) is best for snorkelling. The other two bays are rarely used, but great for relaxing. There is also a handy walkway all the way to Naama Bay which makes for a good stroll at night. Beware: guests should make a note of the gate closing time at night.
Our advice about accommodation: at the Sofitel, there is no way to avoid the numerous stairs, however, the rooms starting with the number 1 are situated at the bottom and closest to the restaurants and the swimming pool.
There is a weekly beach party with live entertainment in the third bay, where a Bedouin style open air buffet restaurant is set up. There is also a large airy tent which is where the hotel's entertainment happens.
Something else the hotel has which stands out, is its own horse stables. Various itineraries can be organised.
