    Location 6.5 /10

Kalimera Kriti is in a remote seaside location less than a mile from the small village of Sissi. Heraklion International Airport is 9 mi away, whilst the closest golf course is 20 minutes from the hotel.

    Accommodation 7.45 /10

The hotel has a total of 415 rooms overlooking the gardens, sea or mountains, with most of the standard rooms and bungalows measuring about 380 sq ft. The 120 rooms in the main building, which are separated from one another by columns, have central air-conditioning, while the 290 rooms in the bungalows in the three different villages have already been fitted with individual air-conditioning. There are also 140 suites in the bungalows. The rooms are decorated in cream from (marble) floor to ceiling, and feature various light sources, a television, safe (free of charge), minibar and direct phone line, with little in the way of furniture. The average-sized bathrooms are clean and basic, with a bathtub, hospitality products provided by the hotel, a hair-dryer and beach towels. Bathrobes and slippers are provided in all the rooms except those in the standard category and room service is available from 7:30am to 9:00pm.

    Overview 8.70 /10

The impeccable, vast, comfortable and bright reception sets the tone for the rest of the complex, which covers 2,400,000 sq ft. In other words, all of the hotel's facilities are very spacious. It is a bit of a surprise to find a large three-storey building designed to replicate the Palace of Knossos, though, and this is certainly one of a kind in Crete! The large square is where the resort's restaurant services are centred, along with various shops to look around and maybe buy a souvenir. There are 5 different fresh-water heated swimming pools on the complex, the largest of which is of Olympic proportions (164 ft long). The relaxation pool is also nice and big, and made using local stone. Deckchairs are laid out on the lawn around it and the area is attractively marked out by low walls. You cannot help but notice how well the gardens are looked after, with their many species to discover as you wander the little stone paths and enjoy the incredible tranquillity of the place. This vast property, which was built in 1994 and is renovated annually, also includes three small villages of bungalows providing holiday accommodation, one of which is particularly well-suited to families. Children aged between 4 and 12 years can also have fun in the large international miniclub, which opens from 10:00am to 6:00pm. The two swimming pools in an enclosed area near the sea are perfect for children to splash about in and play water games, one of which includes a big clown squirting water. Outside, the lawned areas are edged with various rooms equipped for playing games, having an afternoon nap, etc., whilst the brand new amphitheatre can accommodate around 450 people, for outdoor screenings of football matches, for example. Guests can sit and relax over a coffee in The Kafenion, with its tables and checked table cloths, whilst marvelling at the impressively large and intriguing natural cave just alongside it. It really is superb, and its cool temperatures (18 to 20°C) are perfect for the special events organised there. The tables here are laid out on different levels, and disco nights can also be organised without worrying about complaints from the neighbours. As far as well-being is concerned, a large gym containing 17 Technogym exercise machines is open to over-16's, and there is also a large indoor swimming pool and a pleasant Internet room (free of charge).

    Food and drink 7.95 /10

The Dionyssos taverna is a good place to shelter from the sun at mealtimes, serving à la carte Mediterranean dishes for both lunch and dinner, in a pretty dining area laid out under a pergola. The menu consists of a variety of Greek salads and meat and fish dishes. The main restaurant serves both breakfast and dinner as a buffet, although the main course and drinks are served at your table. The dining room is very large, but the two-level terrace is even more so, though you won't get the impression that it is crowded because the various areas have been cleverly designed with pergolas and shrubs. The restaurant offers a choice between a fish, meat or vegetarian dish for the main course every evening, and there is also a special children's dish. The furniture is of a high quality throughout, and there is also a snack-bar for those who fancy something less formal.

    Beach 8.95 /10

The hotel owns more than 3000 ft of beach and the main beach, which is around 1000 ft long, is nestled in a bay that shelters it from strong winds, with the pretty little village of Sissi visible in the distance. Pleasant wooden walkways lead down to the blue and white deckchairs and parasols, and there are no pebbles to cloud your supervised bathing experience. The beach bar is housed in a hut under the shade of the trees, next to the walkway that runs along the coastline. There is also a second, narrower beach, where peace and quiet is guaranteed, and whilst the water is clear, sandals are recommended due to the pebbles on the sea bed. Deckchairs are laid out on the concrete walkway, and there is also a natural swimming pool in the rocks between the two beaches. This is the same depth throughout, making it perfect for children. The water sports centre offers a wide range of activities (payable locally), and the beach has also been awarded the European Union's Blue Flag award for its cleanliness and environmental friendliness.
