Near Safaga, this unpretentious hotel offers facilities of all kinds to satisfy different kinds of customers. However, the combination of old fashion and lack of harmony does not enchant, nor does it exude charm or friendliness. Moreover, the restaurants do not appear to be maintained carefully. To be avoided by gourmet lovers !

    Location 3.0 /10

With some hotels located between the desert and the Red Sea, the Holiday Inn Resort is on the main road between Safaga and its fishing port 5 miles away from Hurghada (and 31 miles away from the airport). It is some 124 miles away from the mythical city of Luxor.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

During our trip in November 2006, the hotel rooms were under renovation, one by one (sixty rooms have already been made). Out of all 327 standard or higher class rooms, 60% have - to a greater or lesser extent - a view on the sea and all have a balcony or a terrace. In order to ensure a peaceful sleep (bedding is quite firm), you can choose the pillow of your choice (natural or synthetic) The tiled ground in white and blue is giving the shade of the room. Classical and pleasant, the rooms have two armchairs, a long desk with drawers, many lights, a mini-bar, a television (25 channels) and air conditioning. Once the operator is informed, the phone can be used for calls abroad. In addition : a common safe is available at the reception. The bathroom, beautiful and clean, is tiled from the floor to the ceiling and has a small shower, a sink with a large mirror, downlighters, a hair dryer, a bathrobe and skin care products (with a dispenser).

    Overview 7.20 /10

The Resort opened in 1997. Traces of the time can already be seen in certain places. A very large reception area with marble and with floors welcomes the holidaymakers booking "all inclusive" packages. A large lobby runs on one side. Seven separate buildings form the entire two-storey hotel. A large driveway leads directly to the beach. On the way, we encounter a large winding swimming pool crossed by a bridge. Several steps in the water embellish its design. Further on, there is a swimming pool for children. The fitness club shows undeniable signs of weariness. The good news are that it will be renovated. For festive evenings, a large disco is located in the basement of the main building inviting everyone to have some fun. In addition : a theatre.

    Food and drink 6.20 /10

With a capacity of 656 place settings, the main restaurant, just opposite the lobby, looks like a canteen. The buffet does not make you feel like eating a lot. Breakfast at the El Farouz is served from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and theme buffets are served in the evening from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The hotel has two other restaurants, one with an Italian menu. International, Eastern, Italian cuisines are on the menu, accompanied by six different bars. The English bar called the "Lord Bar" is not very typical. Its setting is elegant and cosily furnished with comfortable red sofas, billboards and polished dark wooden box beams. The counter of the "Splash", the swimming pool bar, is installed just above the water. Hence swimmers wishing to take a pleasant break can sit at the bar on submerged barstools.

    Beach 7.20 /10

Some 400 deckchairs with mattresses and sunshades, close to each other, are spread along the 250 m long beach. A few rocks and stones rise from the sand, which is fine on the foreshore, but coarse elsewhere. The "Tornado", the windsurfing, kite and catamaran center is managed by Swedes. On the other end, a long pier leads to the marina and a few boats. In addition : the diving club "Duck's" that can arrange weddings into the sea and the Aqua centre for excursions in a glass-bottomed boat, etc.

    To know

The clientele of this Holiday Inn is largely German. Tourists come here especially to dive and do kite surfing. The place, due to its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, encourages people of a certain age to stay there. As for evening entertainments, you will have a choice of magic shows, cabarets, bingo and the beauty contest to crown Miss Holiday Inn ... The rooms are arranged so that seminars may be held.

Our advice: request to be in a renovated room in Building 1 or 2, just to be sure that you will enjoy the sea view !

This is the hotel known in Egypt as "The leading hotel of the world" ! High-quality accommodation, a golf course designed by Gary Player and a thalassotherapy centre at the cutting edge of technology makes this hotel an outstanding site. The accommodation for golfers is quite sophisticated and appropriate for active couples.

So here's a great spot. Despite its imposing size, le Kempinski Soma Bay has been able to preserve the tranquillity and attention to detail you would expect from an upscale establishment. It offers a good compromise between a well-equipped resort and a relaxing spot for the eyes and the ears!

A beautiful beach, numerous facilities, superb gardens and an airy setting all combine to make the Caribbean World Soma Bay a first class resort. Pity it's so difficult to find a quiet corner in this very international hive of tourist activity.

With one foot in the water, the Sheraton Soma Bay is a replica on a lesser scale of the famous historical site of Karnak. Here, it is good to appreciate the time under the sun and enjoy the facilities located not far apart, namely the superb Cascades golf course with 18 holes and a thalassotherapy center.
