    Location 8.5 /10

    The Casa Marina Reef, attached to the Casa Marina Beach, lies directly on the beach in Sosua, 9 miles from the airport of Puerto Plata, on the north coast of the island.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

    Overview 7.20 /10

    Built in 1994, the Casa Marina Reef hotel is comprised of 378 rooms housed in 6 three-storey buildings. A replica of Big Ben, the tower clock watches over the swimming pool which is equipped with two basketball hoops, a handball goal, a volleyball net and a kid's wading pool. Guests may also enjoy the kiko's center, where many fun activities are offered.  In the evening, you can see a show in a huge amphitheatre with a giant screen, accommodating up to 400 people, just beside the main buffet of Acantilado . The children's performance takes place at 8:30 p.m., followed by a 9:45 p.m. show for adults.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

    You will really find yourself in a dilemma trying to decide which of the 5 restaurants to dine in, including 2 buffet-style (El Acantilado and El Batey) and 3 offering a la carte service, with a reservation : Mexican (El Jalapeno), Italian (Luiggi, the Casa Marina Beach) and grill / seafood (Sea Scape- in a straw hut placed directly on the beach at Casa Marina Beach, the decor evoking images of the marine world), shared by the two hotels. No less than 9 bars are located in the two hotels. Remember that three of them are "cash bars", and are not included in the "all inclusive" service : the Sea Scape, the Marling bar and the nightclub Calypso Disco;

    Beach 7.95 /10

    The beach at the Casa Marina Reef has beautiful rocks appropriate for snorkeling, hence the name of the hotel. It has three hammocks and three jacuzzi baths from which you can admire the excellent panorama of the mountains overlooking Puerto Plata. Deckchairs are at your disposal. More lively and better equipped, the beach at Casa Marina Beach offers many umbrellas in addition to the deck chairs and showers, a beach volleyball court and beach soccer nets. Two bars (the beach bar and the coconut bar) are arranged on each side of the Seascape restaurant. Cleanliness is ensured with the many bins shaped as barrels that have been placed in different places. A water sports centre offers many aquatic activities.

        Super séjour sous le soleil et la chaleur, un hôtel 3* républicaines, je dirais 2* étoiles françaises. Une super ambiance, des animateurs et du personnel très sympathique, souriant et agréable. Une ville un peu "craignos" pour une femme seule. Mais une plage publique et ville très jolie.

      The Topacio Azul, one of the few resorts in Sosua, sits in a privileged spot on a low cliff looking out to Sosua Bay, a view that is easy to get lost in - until a pumping party yacht whizzes into view that is. Sosua is one of those places that could have been a quaint little village by the sea full of local charm, but instead it has given way to the darker side of hedonism. The resort itself dominates the bay and is just a few steps from Sosua Bay beach. A typical resort with fair facilities, it used to be two hotels, the Sosua Bay and Victorian House, which have now come together to form the one. Topacio Azul is a reasonable enough hotel for holidaymakers wanting to stay at an all-inclusive resort.

      Sosua by the Sea has a great location and great sea views, but it's seen its hey-day and needs a complete refurbishment. The hotel is really just a base for exploring the rest of the province, as the rooms are extremely basic and the facilities few and far between; even the pool could do with a new floor. Guests from wide-ranging backgrounds and nationalities come to stay here and the general atmosphere is generally quiet and relaxing.

      The Piergiorgio, although still rides on its hey-day reputation, is an eerie and crumbling hotel with its beautiful location as one of the few draws. Opened back in 1997, the hotel hasn't really undergone any major works since the owner passed away although it could do with a full refit. The hotel is located in Sosua, Puerto Plata province, and it isn't on the beach although its balconies sit over the turquoise water. The rooms are a bit grim and dated.

      El Colibri is a small hotel located in the centre of Sosua. It is fair to say that the hotel has seen better days and doesn't really offer much to the guest who wants a pleasant base while on holiday. We've classed this hotel as a two-star due to its dire need of a renovation and lack of facilities and service. Although the hotel is in Sosua, the beach is a fair walk away and although the small town has lots of shops, restaurants and bars, most brim with prostitutes as soon as the clock hits 5:00pm.

      The small hotel, Casa Valeria and its restaurant are located in Sosua town in the Puerto Plata province. As the hotel is so small, there are few facilities to speak of, but it is comfortable and the rates are low, so for guests on a budget it's a good option. The hotel isn't on the beach, but it is a good base to explore the rest of the area from for guests coming by car. The hotel is ideal for guests staying in the area for a couple of days.

      The Casa Veintiuno is one of the best places to stay in the Sosua neighbourhood. Small and quiet and run by a charming Belgian couple, Saskia and Marc, staying here is just like staying at friends' summer house. Located just acorss the road from Sosua Bay beach, the small boutique hotel is a pleasant and clean pied-à-terre to spent a couple of days before moving on to explore another area of the country. Ideal for couples and small group of friends.
