More than anything else, the Jade Mountain is the Anse Chastanet concept pushed to its extreme. Strictly speaking, it isn't really an establishment in its own right, but rather a very luxurious extension of the latter, which it overlooks. The rooms and restaurants are all entirely open to the outside, and the view, which is one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Caribbean, takes in the sea with the two Pitons in the background. Basically, it is the epitome of luxury and we loved it!

    Location 5.75 /10

The road from Soufrière to the Jade Mountain is dreadful and makes for a bone-shaking ride, even in a 4x4 and with an excellent driver. Cyclone Tomas, which struck the island in November 2010, wasn't solely responsible for this but certainly didn't help! Basically, once you get to the hotel, you'll more or less have to stay put!

Hewanorra international airport is around 45 minutes to the south, with Castries around the same amount of time to the north.

    Accommodation 9.70 /10

This is the best part of the Jade Mountain and you will struggle to drag yourself away from your room either during your stay or at the end of your time here. None of the rooms can be fairly described as 'standard' but there are several categories to choose from. The 29 'sanctuary' rooms, as termed by the hotel, have cute names like Star, Moon, Sun, Sky, and Galaxy, each of which has its own characteristics. They are more or less spacious, ranging in size from about 130m² to 190m². The infinity pools similarly vary in size from 40m² to 85m², depending on the room category, and are replaced by a large jacuzzi in the Sky category rooms. The common feature in all of them is that they are missing one wall, meaning they are open on one side, so whether you are relaxing in the bathtub, the swimming pool, or in bed, a spectacular view unfolds before you. Inside, the furniture basically follows a contemporary or a Caribbean style. Wood is the main material used throughout, which is evident even in the parquet floor: the overall effect is quite appealing. The bathroom is a simple, very well equipped space with a shower and bathtub, and is raised to protect your privacy without denying you of the view.

Basically, your time in this luxurious setting is spent drifting along with your surroundings, as relaxation and well-being take on a heavenly dimension. Forget about the phone, television, and Internet, because there are no such facilities here. Finally, if you really don't feel like leaving your 'sanctuary', your meals (24 hour room service), massages, and yoga lessons will come to you!

    Overview 7.10 /10

The Jade Mountain is the result of the audacious imagination of Nick Troubetzkoy, the Canadian architect and owner of the Anse Chastanet, which was officially finished with the opening of this extension in 2006. The building, if that's the right term for it, cannot be seen from the resort itself, but from the town of Soufrière it is hard to miss. Seen up close, the fantastical design is a thought-provoking series of curves and edges, pylons topped by colourful sculptures and connected by suspended concrete bridges, mosaics, and hanging gardens... As a whole, it is supposed to represent a cornucopia, but whether or not you agree is another matter entirely!

It is also debatable whether or not the audacity of the design is quite so practical when it comes to actually using the space. Access to the guest rooms and the panoramic restaurant, which are spread over the 7 storeys of the establishment, could be more straightforward. Nevertheless, a little car will drive you up to the Jade Mountain from the sea, which certainly makes it easier to get back from the spa or beach below.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

In addition to the restaurants at the Anse Chastanet (Caribbean, international, Indian, and vegetarian cuisine, as well as a grill), guests staying at the hotel have their own restaurant, Jade Cuisine. Located at the top of the establishment, it naturally enjoys the best views. The chef prepares simple, creative dishes that are largely inspired by Caribbean cookery and follow the hotel's philosophy, featuring natural ingredients and seasonal variations. Rest assured though: there is plenty of room on the menu for delicacies like caviar, foie gras, lobster, and Champagne.
Above the Jade Cuisine, The Celestial Terrace is a great place to soak up some rays, sip a drink as you watch the sunset, or have dinner under the stars.

    Beach 8.40 /10

The grey sandy public beach down below the Anse Chastanet is located in one of the most beautiful parts of St. Lucia and is covered almost entirely with solid deckchairs and parasols. With the spa, the various water sports on offer (including kayaking, diving, and windsurfing), and the nearby restaurant, this is hardly the most peaceful of settings; on the contrary, beneath the palm trees lies a hive of activity! The water, however, is crystal clear, and there are some beautiful and easily accessible little spots ideal for snorkelling, so get your flippers on!
The Anse Mamin is also accessible a little further north of the hotel.

    To know

The Jade Mountain is an extension of the Anse Chastanet Resort. Guests staying at the hotel can use all the services and facilities provided by the resort, but this privilege is not reciprocal. The Jade Mountain also has its own panoramic restaurant located at the top of the establishment.

This hotel is not very well suited to children.

The Scuba St. Lucia PADI 5 star diving centre is in fact located on the hotel's beach. The best diving sites on the island are to be found between Soufrière and Anse La Raye, with a few just in front of the Anse Chastanet itself.
