Built in the late 1960s, the Kathago el Ksar underwent a complete renovation in 2001. Far from resting on its laurels, this 4-star hotel is already focused on its next upgrades that should currently be underway. In the meantime, the Ksar can be proud of its well-maintained facilities. The guest rooms may not be a model of originality but the hotel compensates for this by offering bungalows in addition to its accommodation blocks. With a total of 449 lodgings, the hotel is far from being a small structure on the coast: avoid it if you are allergic to crowds!

    By the sea, 16 mi from the Monastir airport, the hotel is located in the city centre of Sousse. It takes about an hour and a half to reach Hammamet by car.

    Accommodation 7.90 /10

    While the common rooms were much to our liking, the guest rooms left us a little disappointed. In terms of the decoration, there was nothing to remind us that we were in Tunisia, except for the carpet and the inconspicuous prints hanging on the wall. The rest of the furniture - made of light-coloured wood - was rather boring. Next there was the quaint bedspread matching the curtains, followed by the outdated facilities. This hotel really could do a lot better! The mini-bar and the safe are at reception and cost extra. However, we did like the concept of the bungalows dotted about the large park. Although the decor is almost identical, the feeling of not being confined in one large block is pleasant. Also, the bathroom may be smaller but the room itself is bigger!

    200m separate the entrance gate from the main building of the Ksar. Next, guests pass through a huge door (a copy of a traditional model) and two smaller openings to enter the lobby. We love this tribute to the local architecture, even if it is only an imitation. The entrance hall also holds its own little surprises. In addition to the usual marble, there is a fountain in the middle of the lovely patio. As for the Moroccan-style ceiling, it pays tribute to the Arab origins of the hotel. The hall, the Moorish café, the restaurant, some of the guest rooms and the American bar should all be renovated soon. In the meantime, the hotel can still pride itself on its many and mostly well-maintained facilities, such as the modern gym (even if it has very little equipment), the sports grounds, 4 outdoor swimming pools and the huge (3,000m² and 43 rooms) splendid spa. Just the indoor swimming pool is a little outdated. On top of all this the hotel also has a nightclub, a children's club, a playground, an archery pitch, etc. In short, everything you would expect to find at a holiday club and more!

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

    With a total capacity of around 1,000 people, the Karthago el Ksar has made sure that it has enough restaurants to keep everyone fed. In addition to the main one, there is also a snack bar, an international à la carte restaurant (with mainly Italian dishes) and a barbecue restaurant on the beach, where oriental and Asian buffets are proposed. Guests who have chosen the all-inclusive formula can dine at the theme buffet and the international restaurant once during their stay. Otherwise, it is possible to eat here again but for the price listed on the menu. However, if these aren't enough options (or you wish to get away from the crowd) you can always take advantage of the room service available until midnight! You might be interested to know that the hotel has an ISO 200 label and an ISO 9001 label, rewarding its quality and food hygiene in particular.

    The Ksar can be proud of its location by the water since many of its competitors have had to settle for being one row back, on the other side of a busy street. However, you will have to cross the park (around 10m) before you can finally dig your toes in the sand. Equipped with everything you need to sit back and relax (plastic deckchairs, mattresses and parasols), as well as a snack bar and showers, there is a water sports club just steps away. The activities offered here include banana boating, ringo rides, jetskiing, parasailing, windsurfing, diving and water-skiing, all for an extra fee.

    Like the Karthago Hammamet and that of Gammarth before it, the Ksar belongs to the chain of the same name. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby and that there is a charge for using it.

        hôtel cossu, bien situé (tout proche centre ville) ,chambre agréable avec balcon, spacieuse et propre, salle de bain bien équipée avec bain . Divers restaurants avec buffet ou à la carte. Grand bar avec thème pour les apèritifs.

        très bon hôtel, plusieurs séjour et toujours de mieux en mieux, l'hotel est en pleine rénovation et réameublement, il est très beau et très bien situé !T

      With this princely name, you will expect quality services to match. Even though you are far from the splendour of Monaco here, its Sousse version isn't too bad.       It may have a regal name but the Royal Jinène isn't very different from the other hotels along the coast. Opened in 2004, this traditional 4-star hotel can boast having modern facilities and everything you would expect a resort hotel to have. Those on a tight budget can opt for its 3-star neighbour and member of the same group, the Jinène. Guests staying here can use the facilities at the Royal.

      Opened in 1969, the Marabout was one of the first hotels to be built in the small city of Sousse. Renovated and expanded, it now has a hundred guest rooms with a contemporary look. The other guests will just have to be content with the somewhat outdated standard rooms.       Don't be fooled by this 4-star establishment's promising name. Opened in 1967, the hotel is far from being a palace! The only thing different about the Sousse Palace compared to the rest of the hotels at this seaside resort is its old-fashioned look. However, the hotel is scheduled to be closed for one year in 2012 in order to renovate its buildings from top to bottom. Check back in 2013 for the results!

      We can't even count the number of Marhaba hotels there are in the city of Sousse! The Marhaba Beach itself shares a large complex with three others. Although they all operate independently, you should still avoid coming here if you're looking for a private setting! However, this can also be an asset, especially when it comes to the shared facilities. The Marhaba Beach may differ slightly from the others in terms of the communal areas, but its positive aspects include tasteful and modern new guest rooms as well as a location on the beautiful beach of Sousse.

Although it is difficult to stand out as a holiday resort in this city, the Royal Salem does have some notable extras.       Opened in 1996, the only thing royal about the Royal Beach is its new à la carte restaurant located on the top floor. Expanded in 2001, there are just 123 guest rooms in this hotel. It is ideal for those who like smaller establishments! However, if you enjoy sports and/or have children, this isn't the place for you, since there are no sports facilities (except for the swimming pool) or children's club. This 3-star hotel is best suited for couples on a tight budget.
