No unnecessary luxury, rooms with basic level of comfort - but the sea view is breathtaking and several attractions can be reached on foot: the promenade and pool of the Havre des Pas, marina, the shopping streets in Saint-Helier.

    Location 9.17 /10

On the seafront of the Havre des Pas, 1,640 ft from the centre of Saint-Helier and 1 mile from the ferry terminal. The airport is 6 miles away (15-20 min journey time depending on traffic).

    Accommodation 6.20 /10

Of the 65 hotel rooms, half were renovated in 2005. The double rooms are very small. And the "sea view" rooms have no balcony. 7 family rooms (for 2 adults and 2 children) which often have bunkbeds due to the lack of space. Roughly 40% of the rooms face the sea; the other overlook the local houses of the Havre des Pas (the oldest district in Saint-Helier, which was built in the Victorian style). Ideally, request a room with twin beds (they are a bit more spacious) with balcony and sea view, i.e. numbers 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 19, 31, 38 and 43. The layout is simple: pine furniture, whitewashed walls... Small-screen TV. Safe at the reception. No minibar, but you can request one. Direct phone, tea/coffee making facilities, bathroom with bath and hairdryer. No welcome products except for a small bar of soap.

    Overview 6.95 /10

The Fort d'Auvergne is like a townhouse hotel... on the seafront. Only a narrow pedestrian promenade separates the hotel from the rocky coast. And luckily the covered pool overlooks the sea through several windows. Do not expect to much from this pool though: It only measures 40 x 13 ft. One or two chaises lounges around the edge, but there is no room for more because the space is so tight. Bath towels are provided. It is easy to get your bearings in the other communal areas: the small reception, decorated in Regency style furniture, leads to a lounge bar with a wooden ceiling and exposed stone walls. Further along is the restaurant, which is on the sea side at the end of the hotel. A little bit of history: the name "Fort d'Auvergne" is due to the fact that there used to be a fort there whose garrison was led by a military man called Auvergne.

    Food and drink 6.70 /10

The hall of the restaurant is very simply designed. In good weather, ask if it is possible to eat in the terrace-solarium next door: it has wooden tables and chairs as well as a few loungers among the flower boxes. From the restaurant or the terrace, the view is the same: over the sea and the waves on the surface. Hot and cold breakfast, coffee served at your table. In the evening, the meal is served as a set menu, with a choice of 4 starters, main course and dessert. Cheese is available at the end. Once a week, the main course is presented as a "carvery" buffet: various cuts of roast meat, served in slices. At lunchtime, instead of trying the snack menu, go and have lunch in one of the nearby restaurants.

    To know

The hotel is only open from March to October and there is no beach just in front of it.
For swimming, go to the seawater pool of the Havre des Pas, 655 ft away. Entrance is free and you can swim at low and high tide. Loungers can be hired on the concrete steps constructed in a semi-circle around the pool.
Opposite the pool of the Havre des Pas is a beach, but it is not big (490 x 98 ft) and its sand is mixed with gravel. Some seaweed and rocks in the water. You can only swim from the beach at high tide.

      • Package deals in août 2013 Posted on 2013-09-20 Seul - 2 nuitées (Chambre avec vue)

The Queens is a lively hotel, with few rooms, and well-maintained facilities. It is neither in the town centre nor by the sea, but it makes up for its lack of location with access to the pool of a partner hotel 820 ft away.
