This hotel is fine for a weekend all year round. There is a courtesy shuttle for shopping in the town, you can relax around the covered pool, and you can make up your own programme of spa treatments.

    Location 8.32 /10

On Saint-Saviour's Road, 2,625 ft from the shopping centre of Saint-Helier, and 1.5 miles from the ferry terminal. Allow 5 minutes to get there by car. The airport is about 6 miles away (20 min transfer).

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

290 rooms in total, from the room with one bed to the suite. Few of the rooms have a balcony (18) and the double ones are 215 ft² in size. As far as possible, ask for a room facing the port so that you can see the sea beyond the town. Or a room with a town and country view. The other rooms, which look over the rear courtyard, have no view at all: leave the curtains drawn. In terms of decor, the most recent rooms have a sober style with light wood furniture in light wood and matching drapes. The others are in a heavily pastoral style (flowery bedspreads and curtains). The large-screen TV with Euronews is welcome. For a minibar, ask for one of the new rooms. The bathroom will be nicer too. The other facilities include direct telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, bath, hairdryer, and small welcome products in the bathroom. Safe at the reception.

    Overview 7.95 /10

The hotel is in a Victorian 5-storey building with white facades and slate rooftops. It was renovated in 2003. It has a good reputation and usually hosts conference or seminar groups. It offers a wide range of leisure facilities. A covered pool 72 x 23 ft overlooks a lawn with leisure equipment (towels provided). An open-access hammam and sauna. A fitness room with recent machines, and television to make up for the lack of an outside view. In July and August, families can leave their children (up to 9 years) in the care of the hotel's miniclub.

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

Variety and quality: the various eating places in the hotel are welcome. We preferred the Cafe Aroma, open during the day until 10 pm, which is designed like a bistro and has a terrace overlooking the poolside lawn (with a view of the town in the background). You can order simple food (sandwiches and hamburgers with chips) or tastier specialities (salmon pie, Provencal-style lamb). The main restaurant is less appealing: a dining room without terrace and with neutral furniture. Luckily, it gets light from the atrium bar next door. Buffet breakfast with hot and cold dishes, and coffee served at the table. Table d'hote or a la carte dinner in the evening. The hotel also has a gourmet restaurant called "The Gallery".

    To know

This hotel should be chosen for its spa (with several massage rooms, and an open-access covered pool, a Jacuzzi and massage jets, a lane for swimming against the current, a cold pool and a warm pool.

The hotel is situated on the slopes of Saint-Helier, so is not suitable for a seaside holiday, and those who want to go on excursions must use public transport (there is a bus route nearby) or hire a car. For shopping, it is easier: a courtesy shuttle makes the journey between the hotel and the centre of Saint-Helier twice a day.

The Queens is a lively hotel, with few rooms, and well-maintained facilities. It is neither in the town centre nor by the sea, but it makes up for its lack of location with access to the pool of a partner hotel 820 ft away.
