Palm Avenue, Sunset Crest, St James, Barbados Sunset Crest, Barbados

This no frills, no fuss but friendly hotel is not beachfront but enjoys a tranquil residential setting. Ideal for budget-conscious travellers but its cheap and cheerful atmosphere won't suit everyone.

    Location 3.0 /10

Two minutes from Sunset Crest and a short drive to the nightlife of Holetown, All Seasons Europa is found in a charming residential street; a 25 minute drive from Bridgetown, and 45 minutes from the Grantley Adams International Airport.

    Accommodation 6.70 /10

Rooms at All Seasons Europa are very simple but spacious and bright. With tired and worn looks, they are in need of a makeover; even something as simple as changing the faded linens and curtains would have a refreshing effect. Accommodation consists of 48 one bedroom apartments, each measuring a roomy 70m, with a separate living area and kitchenette. Rooms are basically furnished and also include a private patio with pool or gardens views, as well as a personal parking space. From the exterior, these turquoise and citrus yellow buildings (single storey) with lilac trim look like they need a bit of TLC, but they also have a local charm about them and blend in well with the residential neighbourhood. Some apartments are located across the road from the main building.

    Overview 6.45 /10

All Seasons Europa may offer basic facilities and accommodation however there is something charmingly down to earth about the hotel. Bizarrely, one part of the hotel is found in one location - fronted by a car park, while other parts are across the road, scattered to the left or to the right, so that the resort appears to have taken over the whole suburb.

The principal part of the hotel features a small, simple lobby which leads to a large, airy restaurant with white brick walls, high wooden rafters and cosy alcoves. The restaurant spills out on to a patio where guests can dine alfresco whilst overlooking the pool and gardens. Adjacent is a casual bar area with a colourful mural, flat screen TV and pool table (cost per game, BBD$1, 0.30) that wouldn't look out of place at a backpacker's hostel.

In the spacious grounds dotted with tall palms (there are a total of 130 on site), a medium sized pool is at the heart of the resort, with a neat row of plastic sun loungers to accompany it. The pool deck is spacious however there is little shade. A children's wading pool is nearby.

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

The Red Parrot, the hotel's restaurant, is open for all day dining from 8:00am until 10:00pm. The menu, admittedly simple, consists of international fare such as catch of the day, shrimp kebab and steak etc. Buffet services are only held when there are large groups at the hotel. Breakfast is English-style with eggs, bacon and other fry up items. What a shame there are no local dishes on the menu. The majority of guests opt for the bed and breakfast meal plan. Sunday night is karaoke night, or as the locals call it: "Karry-your-own-key..." Room service is not available.

    Beach 7.70 /10

The beach is a seven minute walk away but guests may also opt for the free shuttle service. They can use the hotel's waterfront facility 'The Beach House' which also has its own bar and restaurant. Beach chairs and parasols are available for use after payment of a deposit.
