The Kempinski Ishtar Dead Sea is one of the most luxurious hotels, if not the most luxurious, on the shores of the Dead Sea, and the perfect base for both business travellers and holidaying families and couples.

    Location 9.9 /10

The Kempinski Ishtar Dead Sea is located, as its name suggests, on the shores of the Dead Sea, against a backdrop of ochre mountains. It is not far from the Movenpick and Dead Sea Spa hotels, and Amman is at most a 2-hour drive away.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

The rooms are split into two separate areas. 201 of these are housed in the main building, which is reserved mainly for business travellers and those attending conferences. 117 more rooms, reserved for holidaying families and couples, are housed in the Ishtar Resort area, and there are also two villas with their own private pool. The rooms in the Resort area are more spacious than those in the meeting area, and are set in a garden and reached via shaded, paved floral walkways, hidden away in little square single-storey houses made of stone. This part of the hotel has its own reception lobby, which overlooks all of the little houses as well as the sea. All rooms have air-conditioning, a safe, a free minibar, free Internet access, newspapers and tea and coffee-making facilities, as well as a terrace, balcony or veranda. The decor is very pleasant and modern, the dominant materials being stone and wood from Jordan. A huge studded door opens into the room, decorated in shades of blue and white, with stylish warmer colours like orange, brown, beige and black to brighten it up, whilst a long rug stretches across the tiled floor. A small detail, but one worth mentioning, is the reading lamp by the bed. The tastefully-decorated bathrooms have a shower and separate bathtub, bathrobes, scales and hospitality products, with beige and brown mosaics from Jordan adorning the walls. The spa area houses 14 suites and 14 Deluxe Spa Suites for guests who have come especially to enjoy the spa's modern 'Zen' surroundings.

    Overview 8.20 /10

The Kempinski Ishtar Dead Sea was built in several stages, starting with the Resort area and villas, which are closest to the sea and beach, and which opened in May 2006. The main part of the hotel, which is closer to the road and overlooks the rest of the complex and the sea, then opened in May 2007. Finally, the stylish spa with unbelievable sea views opened as recently as November 2008. It has 20 treatments rooms and in addition to the many treatments on offer, including massages overlooking the sea, there are also hydromassage facilities, two seawater pools and a shiatsu pool, among other things. In addition to all this, there is a sauna, hammam, indoor and outdoor jacuzzis and a gym so you can relax or work out as the mood takes you. The spa has its own bedrooms, so you can spend several days there if you wish. The hotel has a total of 345 guest rooms, spread between the 3 different parts of the complex mentioned above. The main building is designed in the Arabic style, a theme also reflected in the lobby of the Ishtar Resort area, with sunlight shining in through its glass roof. A huge terrace offers views across the sea and the Resort area as a whole resembles a village of small houses built around the main building in its centre. As far as sport is concerned, the hotel has a tennis court and 9 different swimming pools (a long pool, infinity pool, children's pool, spa pools, river pool, eye-shaped pool, etc.). There is also a mini-club for children, where they can watch films, play games and use the computers whilst their parents enjoy a drink with friends at one of the several bars.

    Food and drink 8.20 /10

Obelisk, the main restaurant, overlooks the sea, and its terrace offers a magnificent panorama over the Dead Sea and the swimming pool. The decor is ethnic and colourful, with green, yellow and other-coloured armchairs dotted around the room. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as a buffet, and whilst the main menu consists of international and traditional Jordanian cuisine, there is also a special menu for children. The Codes is a Thai restaurant located in the first part of the hotel where the menu consists of Asian food, sushi and fusion dishes, and which serves breakfast and dinner in a simple, classic setting decorated in pastel shades (mauve and green). The Ashur Pizza & Grill offers a chill-out lounge atmosphere and is open only to adults at dinner time. On special occasions, it also plays host to live bands after dark.

    Beach 8.70 /10

The hotel's beach is possibly the most beautiful on the whole of the Dead Sea, with white sand imported from Sharm El Sheikh. Huge white parasols and deckchairs are provided for the comfort of guests, but the true unmissable experience is relaxing on the four-poster beds on the beach. Of course, you can also take mud baths on the beach and then rinse off under a shower, such is the luxury offered by the hotel. Long mirrors have been installed on the beach as well, so you can admire your muddy reflection and take your own photo. There are also facilities for beach volleyball, football, handball and games for children on the beach, with the odd palm tree adding a splash of greenery to the surroundings.

    To know

The spa, which opened in November 2008, is one of the most modern and sophisticated we have ever seen, and even offers guests the option of reserving a suite at the spa. Laptops and iPods can be requested at reception.
