This is without a doubt the most peaceful hotel in Taba Heights, and you will find neither rowdy entertainment nor music by the pool here. What sets the Marriott Beach Resort Taba Heights apart from the other hotels in the area is the clear intention to attract holidaymakers searching for comfort and tranquillity, as well as golfers. One section of the establishment (100 rooms) is also 'child free'.

Location
8.0/10
The Marriott is in Taba Heights, which is about 45 minutes by car from Taba airport. Apart from the resort facilities, the only things surrounding the hotel are the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Aqaba and the mountainous Sinai Desert. The village of Taba, 10 mi north of the hotel, and the small harbour town of Nuweiba, 35 mi south of the hotel, have very little of real interest and very few shops.
Accommodation
8.20/10
The 399 guest rooms in the establishment occupy several one, two and three-storey wings built parallel to the sea. Half of them have a view of the sea, and the other half overlook the mountains or the garden, and they all have a large balcony (the outdoor furniture is plastic, unfortunately). One wing containing 100 guest rooms is reserved to adults only, to ensure peace and quiet for visitors staying there. There is plenty on offer for families at the hotel too, though.
The Marriott's interior design is very classic, stylish and tasteful, with a special emphasis on comfort. The very large double beds are provided with no fewer than eight pillows! Unfortunately, the bathrooms do not quite live up to the kind of luxury you might expect from this type of establishment. They are quite small, and the bathtub is screened off by a curtain decorated with a blue and green Mediterranean theme of questionable taste. However, you will find all the equipment you would expect from a Marriott hotel: a hair-dryer, air-conditioning, television, bathrobes and slippers, and a mini-bar with tea and coffee-making facilities.
Bear in mind that all the rooms are non-smoking.
Overview
7.70/10
From the guest rooms to the restaurants, the Marriott's decor is firmly classic in style, with a few touches of Oriental inspiration. The only hint of originality is provided by the artificial rocks found dotted throughout, in the lobby (which is due to undergo renovation in 2011) and, in particular, around the huge, meandering swimming pool. This latter feature is in a really nice setting interspersed with slides and little islets thick with vegetation. At the centre of the pool, the rocks have been arranged to form a man-made cave that conceals the originally named 'Grotto' pool bar and grill. It can be reached on foot through a tunnel, but you can also get to the bar, which is hidden behind a waterfall, via the pool.
The communal spaces and the eight bars and restaurants are located next to the lobby and dotted around the swimming pool, which stretches down to the beach. The organised activities are kept to a strict minimum, and are restricted to between 12:00pm and 1:00pm (there are three English speaking coordinators, one of whom leads activities for children). The well-being space is decorated in an Oriental fashion, and contains a whirlpool bath, a hammam, a sauna and two massage rooms. The Marriott is planning to undertake major works in 2011 to transform it into a real spa, and it will be the first such facility in Taba when it is complete.
Food and drink
7.45/10
Something unexpected about the Marriott is the fact that only 50% of the guests here opt for the all inclusive option. This is a low proportion compared with most hotels in Taba. The other 50% check in under the half board deal in order to make the most of the à la carte restaurants. Al Andalus, the buffet restaurant, is nevertheless the main restaurant in the hotel. Guests eat here either in a brightly lit dining room with a marble floor and brick arches, or out on its terrace. The dishes on offer are nothing special, and start to get a bit repetitive, just like in other hotels in the area.
As for à la carte dining options, you are spoilt for choice, what with the Grotto grill, the Regata snack bar, the Beach Bar and the fine Italian restaurant, the Tuscany. On top of this, because the Marriott is part of the Taba Heights resort, guests can also try out the 5 restaurants in the 'Uptown Village' area, which offer a choice between Mexican, Indian, Asian, Belgian and Oriental cuisine. You can even book a table in one of the à la carte restaurants in the other hotels in the complex (there are 14 restaurants in total).
Beach
7.95/10
Just like its Taba Heights neighbours, the Marriott enjoys direct access to the complex's beach, which is over 2 mi long. The area of beach right next to the hotel is set out with cushioned deckchairs, grouped in pairs under palm-thatched parasols and sheltered by woven windbreaks. Lovely!
Just like everywhere in Taba, the setting is especially attractive, with the coast of Saudi Arabia in sight across the sublime water. Coral 'potatoes' can be found just a few metres from the shoreline, and taking a dip here is the closest you're likely to get to experiencing life in an aquarium. Time to put on your masks! Do be careful of your feet though. Plastic sandals are strongly recommended, and if you are planning to do some diving, be sure to take some diving shoes. Even just getting into the water is difficult with bare feet due to the many stones scattered about in the sand.
Last but not least, guests at the Marriott also enjoys special access to the Waterworld centre where they can try their hand at snorkelling, diving and a large selection of other water sports for an additional charge.
To know
The Marriott was built in 2002, and is one of the 5 hotels in the Taba Heights resort. Holidaying here gives you easy access to more than 2 mi of beach, an 18 hole golf course, the Waterworld water sports and diving centre, and the village ('uptown'), which consists of a shopping street and five à la carte restaurants. These hotels and various places of interest around the resort are served by two free shuttle buses which run every 20 minutes.

Disavantages
Variété des plats présentés insuffisante. Service déplorable au var de la grotte

This Sofitel hotel is all about the grandeur, its huge lobby incorporating an arched roof depicting the night sky, complemented in turn by the particularly elaborate Oriental-inspired architecture. Its Sinbad Tower has also become symbolic of the Taba Heights resort. This sparkling hotel may not offer the warmest of surroundings, but the facilities here are excellent, making it a great place for those looking for a relaxing or even an active holiday by the sea.
This, the only hotel in Taba with over 500 guest rooms, is definitely not lacking in attributes. Built in 2006, it is now the largest and newest hotel in the resort of Taba Heights. However, even when it is full, it doesn't feel too cramped, and the InterContinental has even managed to retain little intimate areas for its guests. To sum up, this is a beautiful hotel for a seaside holiday filled with sports activities, ideal for couples, families or groups of friends.
The Hyatt Regency was the first hotel to open in the Taba Heights resort village and is still the nicest of them all. Its location, its original architectural qualities and its gardens are its main assets. Spacious and full of surprises, it offers entertainment in French due to a Framissima hotel on-site and was our favourite hotel in Taba.
The Mövenpick Resort, actually owned by a Swiss Group, has one of the highest concentrations of French guests in Taba. Spacious and well equipped, the hotel offers all of the standard international services you would expect, and all with excellent service. The only negative thing that can be said about this place is its lack of charm.
The small and only 4 star hotel in Taba Heights, the Three Corners El Wekala, is built high up in the resort village, offering pleasant views of the Red Sea but without direct access to the beach. Covering just a small area, this hotel mainly accommodates families, so the swimming pool area is not necessarily a relaxing place to be! Only holidaymakers who like to socialise will feel at home in this hotel, which became a Thomas Cook Holiday Village in October 2010. .
The Morgana is a semi-circle construction built around a huge swimming pool, and first impressions are that it provides family-orientated facilities, offering the all-inclusive formula. However, a closer look reveals that this club Marmara establishment certainly doesn't deserve the 4 stars that it boasts.
