Hotel Mövenpick Resort Taba Hotel 5 star

Taba Bay North West Sinai - 00000 Taba Taba, Egypt
Amy Adejokun Section editor

The Mövenpick Resort, actually owned by a Swiss Group, has one of the highest concentrations of French guests in Taba. Spacious and well equipped, the hotel offers all of the standard international services you would expect, and all with excellent service. The only negative thing that can be said about this place is its lack of charm.

    Location 7.0 /10

Just beside the Israeli border, the Mövenpick Resort Taba is located in the small cluster of hotels furthest to the north of this seaside resort. Apart from the Hilton tower, to which it is attached, and the watchtowers at the border, there isn't much to see in the direct vicinity. However, the turquoise sea of the Aqaba Gulf and the mountainous Sinaī desert are not too far away.
Taba airport is around a 45-minute drive away. The tiny village of Taba, 3 mi south of the hotel, and the small port of Nuweiba nearly 44 mi away have nothing to offer in the way of entertainment and are home to just a handful of shops. The Israeli city of Eilat is a lot closer and livelier, but crossing the border might take a while.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

The hotel's 424 guest rooms and suites are divided into 12 categories but the standard rooms (so-called deluxe) differ mainly in terms of their views (sea or not). In any case, all of the rooms boast a large balcony equipped with a small table and plastic chairs from where you can admire whatever view you have. Inside, whether you are given a room with touches of green or orange (both exist), white is the dominant colour at the Mövenpick. The rooms are comfortable, bright, and practical, but do not really give off a feeling of warmth. They feature white floor tiling, light wood furnishings with clean sober lines, and a king size bed, among other things. The bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub and are quite pleasant, but nothing special. In terms of amenities you will have air-conditioning, welcome toiletries, a television with 34 channels, a free safe, an (empty) mini-bar and a hair-dryer.

    Overview 7.20 /10

The impression left by the grand passageway leading from the road to the hotel's entrance is not lost upon entering the lobby. A large bar sits under its tall glass roof and opens onto the swimming pool and the sea. Vast, white and full of light, the lobby is representative of the rest of the hotel. Moreover, standing at the heart of the establishment, this is where the wings lead off to the 424 guest rooms and suites divided over 3 floors (apart from the 66 bungalows). Most of the communal facilities are located in the surrounding little pavilions.
The Mövenpick stands on an imposing piece of land with vast lawns, an artificial river and a long esplanade, at the far end of which flies the Egyptian flag. Between the main building and the beach there is a large outdoor pool with a paddling pool for children, 3 whirlpools and a pool bar. There is also a second pool set back slightly between the bungalows. The well-being centre (with its 6 massage rooms, a beautiful relaxation room, a sauna, Turkish baths and smiling staff) and the very well-equipped children's club (TV, video games, play areas, 2 friendly English-speaking activity leaders) can be found at the back of the establishment. To the delight of the more sporty guests, the hotel also disposes of a grassy football pitch and a perfectly equipped gym, but no tennis lessons are provided! An indoor pool lets those who are sensitive to the cold take a dip indoors underneath its glass roof in the winter. You will also find a games room here, as well as evening entertainment in winter.
The entertainment begins in the middle of the afternoon (by the pool) with 9 activity leaders proposing various activities. For cocktail hour, you can find drinks at both the lobby and pool bars (the second one is less popular).

    Food and drink 7.20 /10

On the ground floor, beneath the lobby, the main buffet restaurant welcomes guests for all 3 meals of the day. The food is standard and like most hotels rather repetitive, despite the few dishes that change each evening with the theme of the meal. The fruit juice is made from a powder mix. When the hotel is full, Sea Shells, the ā la carte restaurant, accommodates the buffet included in the formula.
To offer a little more variety though, the Mövenpick has 3 ā la carte restaurants. In addition to the fish and seafood served at Sea Shells, guests can enjoy some excellent Asian cuisine at Shopsticks or opt for the more authentic option and discover Lebanese dishes from Shahrazad.

    Beach 7.95 /10

The Mövenpick has a private beach that you can reach directly from the hotel. Like everywhere in Taba, the surrounding environment is beautiful, facing the Jordanian coast. Plastic deckchairs have been laid out in pairs under sunshades.
The water is delightful, turquoise and crystal clear. Coral 'potatoes' can be found just a few metres from the shoreline, and taking a dip here is the closest you're likely to get to experiencing life in an aquarium. Time to put on your masks! Do be careful of your feet though. Whether you go for plastic sandals or specialised diving footwear, we highly recommend you wear some sort of amphibious shoes, as even just getting into the water can prove difficult with bare feet due to the many stones scattered about in the sand.
It's also possible to discover the gems of the coral ecosystem from the glass-bottomed boat which departs from the establishment's water sports centre located beside the beach. Scuba and deep sea diving, kayaking, pedalos and catamarans are also available.

    To know

Nevertheless, if the spa doesn't dazzle you, the Mövenpick well-being centre is one of the few in Taba that can really boast being worthy of this name. The kids club (ages 4-12) is also particularly well equipped.
All throughout the establishment, the Mövenpick provides its guests with a variety of different bins to encourage the recycling of paper, glass, metals, and plastic.
Interestingly, the hotel receives a large concentration of French, Jordanian and Saudi guests.

This is without a doubt the most peaceful hotel in Taba Heights, and you will find neither rowdy entertainment nor music by the pool here. What sets the Marriott Beach Resort Taba Heights apart from the other hotels in the area is the clear intention to attract holidaymakers searching for comfort and tranquillity, as well as golfers. One section of the establishment (100 rooms) is also 'child free'.

This Sofitel hotel is all about the grandeur, its huge lobby incorporating an arched roof depicting the night sky, complemented in turn by the particularly elaborate Oriental-inspired architecture. Its Sinbad Tower has also become symbolic of the Taba Heights resort. This sparkling hotel may not offer the warmest of surroundings, but the facilities here are excellent, making it a great place for those looking for a relaxing or even an active holiday by the sea.

This, the only hotel in Taba with over 500 guest rooms, is definitely not lacking in attributes. Built in 2006, it is now the largest and newest hotel in the resort of Taba Heights. However, even when it is full, it doesn't feel too cramped, and the InterContinental has even managed to retain little intimate areas for its guests. To sum up, this is a beautiful hotel for a seaside holiday filled with sports activities, ideal for couples, families or groups of friends.

The Hyatt Regency was the first hotel to open in the Taba Heights resort village and is still the nicest of them all. Its location, its original architectural qualities and its gardens are its main assets. Spacious and full of surprises, it offers entertainment in French due to a Framissima hotel on-site and was our favourite hotel in Taba.

The small and only 4 star hotel in Taba Heights, the Three Corners El Wekala, is built high up in the resort village, offering pleasant views of the Red Sea but without direct access to the beach. Covering just a small area, this hotel mainly accommodates families, so the swimming pool area is not necessarily a relaxing place to be! Only holidaymakers who like to socialise will feel at home in this hotel, which became a Thomas Cook Holiday Village in October 2010.

However, a closer look reveals that this club Marmara establishment certainly doesn't deserve the 4 stars that it boasts.
