Having opened in 2003, the Sofitel was the 2nd hotel to open in the Taba Heights resort. The emphasis here is clearly on the Oriental style, both in terms of the architecture, the decor and the restaurants. The huge lobby, where guests will find themselves under a star-studded cupola supported by Egyptian-style columns, with a fountain at its centre and marble mosaic flooring, immediately sets the tone for the rest of the establishment. Whether you find all this simply sumptuous or altogether very kitsch will depend on your tastes! Nearby, the Sinbad Tower stands dominating the complex, and you can in fact climb the tower for some great views or even organise a romantic dinner there. Two three-storey wings span out from this central point running parallel with the sea, stretching north and south respectively. A third wing was added a little further back in 2008, bringing the total number of guest rooms up to 442. The various archways running between the buildings also offer some great views out to sea.
With a total of three outdoor swimming pools, 4 restaurants, various sports facilities, a small spa and a children's club, it really is hard to fault the amenities at the Sofitel. The winding outdoor pools are arranged in succession and incorporate two little islets where you'll find jacuzzi baths. One of the pools is filled with seawater whilst another is heated during the winter months. You'll also find plenty of deckchairs laid out in the shade of white parasols and palm trees. The spa centre, meanwhile, is nothing to write home about and consists merely of a sauna, a gym and 4 massage rooms, though it is set amid the very peaceful surroundings of a fourth, little pool built lengthwise among the hotel grounds. Most of the activities and entertainment provided are centred around the pools and the main building, the esplanade dominated by the terrace of the Sultan bar, which affords excellent views! Just beyond this lies the lobby, where entertainment is also provided of an evening in a very Oriental setting.
Various games and activities are organised in English by the hotel's 9 entertainment staff.
